My name is Rebecca Barker and I am a Geography teacher originally from the UK. I grew up in South London and have been teaching in the area for the last few years. Before that, I studied Human Geography at the University of Reading for three years where I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of further study. After finishing my degree, I left Reading to work at a specialist school in North London for young people with behavioural and medical needs. This was a challenging but amazing experience and is what ultimately motivated me to go on to study for my PGCE at University College London a year later. I studied for my PGCE as part of an organisation called Teach First which works with schools in deprived areas of the UK. This really opened my eyes to some of the issues that young people face, and further strengthened my desire to work in education. I love my subject and am truly dedicated to helping students to learn how to navigate and understand the world. As well as this, I also have lots of interests outside of teaching; I recently ran the London Marathon which was an amazing personal achievement! Running has now become something I enjoy and intend to maintain. I also love learning new things and am keen to make the most of the various water sports that will be at my fingertips in Thailand! I am really looking forward to commencing my time at HeadStart and am really excited to immerse myself in school life!
