My name is Becky and I'm from Manchester in the UK. I'm incredibly excited to be starting at HeadStart and moving to Thailand, which is a big move considering I've never even left Europe! After studying for my MusB (Hons) in Music, where I focused on performance and composition, I completed my PGCE in Secondary Music. I love teaching Music as pupils not only gain new skills lesson by lesson, but also develop personally as well as academically, gaining qualities such as self-motivation and resilience. I strongly believe that Music teaching should focus primarily on pupils developing practical, musical skills, whist, at the same time, producing strong musical outcomes. In my lessons I like to ensure that my students have the opportunity to experience not only a variety of instruments, but a variety of musical styles as well. I also think it is important to experience Music outside of the classroom, and I led many trips in my previous school. These range from Musical Theatre productions, to Classical orchestra concerts, to recording studio days. I’m looking forward to finding out about the different opportunities Phuket can offer in order to take Music outside of the school environment. Outside of teaching I enjoy cooking and keeping active. I am very much looking forward to sampling lots of Thai food and trying new sports and activities whilst I am in Phuket, particularly water sports (which is not something you can really do in rainy Manchester). I am someone who is passionate about Music and ensuring pupils reach their full potential and I am looking forward to seeing what the new academic year brings at HeadStart.
