My name is Kate Thongsen and this is my second year at HeadStart as the Year 4 Blue teacher. I am an Australian citizen but grew up in New Zealand. I have a Bachelor of Physical Education from the University of Otago and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Southern Queensland. I thoroughly enjoyed my first year at HeadStart and I am looking forward to the next academic year. I have been living in Thailand for six years. The first two I spent just north of Phuket in Khao Lak as a scuba diving instructor. I also spent three years teaching on an English programme in a private school in Phuket prior to starting at HeadStart. I enjoyed this position and gained valuable teaching experience. I believe an important aspect of teaching is to create a lifelong love of learning. Therefore it is crucial to create a safe environment combined with stimulating activities in the classroom to enable all students to succeed. I enjoy getting to know each student as an individual over the course year. I look forward to meeting my new class and working with all the staff and students at HeadStart.

I am determined that the children in my care are excited about learning and I always strive to deliver fun, inspiring and innovative lessons to capture their interest and imagination. I have a love of travelling and visited Thailand 2 years ago, where I fell in love with this beautiful country, its wonderful culture and welcoming people. I am looking forward to meeting the children in Year 4, working with the staff and becoming part of the HeadStart community.
