Year 2A

My name is Laurence Melillo-Desrosiers and I am from Montreal, Canada. I graduated two years ago from university with a Bachelor’s Degree in elementary education and have been teaching and doing internships at different levels, from kindergarten to year 6. Last year, I also started a Master’s Degree in education.

I had always appreciated all the aspects of being a teacher and I like to start my day by knowing that it will be completely different from the day before. I feel lucky to have the opportunity to learn every day as much as my students do.

I decided to leave my hometown for a while to discover a new culture, a new lifestyle, a new pedagogy and to meet new people who I am sure, are going to influence the rest of my life.

My philosophy of teaching is that every child needs to feel supported and encouraged to give the best of his/herself. We should help them to become a part of society by developing independence and self-confidence. The relation that I have with my students is based on mutual respect. As a teacher, my goal is to help children realize their strengths, and to encourage and challenge the students to learn through those strengths. Projects, cooperation and teamwork are important facets of my teaching.
