Year 3B

My name is Katja Clark. I am a native English speaker, originating from the Northeast of England. I have been living on Phuket with my family since 2004. I am very excited to have this opportunity to teach at HeadStart International School and am looking forward to utilising my professional experience, skills and knowledge to provide the students in Y3B with an engaging, creative and fun learning experience.

My professional history includes working in the hospitality industry, for an airline, an aerial photography business, and in real estate. More recently, my love of children and lifelong learning prompted me to follow my aspiration to become a primary teacher. I therefore returned to higher education in order to gain the appropriate teaching credentials.

My qualifications include a P.G.C.E (Post Graduate Certificate of Education) in Primary Education, from Sunderland University, U.K. This allows me to develop children’s learning within the classroom through the use of current teaching techniques. I hold a first-class, BA (Hons) degree in International Hospitality and Tourism Management from the University of Northumbria, as well as a Teaching English as a Foreign Language Certificate.

I have taught as a teaching assistant at Shining Stars School in Kamala, Phuket, and have provided private English tuition for adult Thai nationals. In addition, whilst completing my P.G.C.E, I gained teaching experience within the primary age phase as an intern at Q.S.I. International School, Phuket.

I believe that social skills are equally as valuable to a child’s developmental success as academic ability. In our classroom, as well as learning key subjects we will focus on fundamental social skills to promote a safe and positive learning environment for all children. In addition, I hope to encourage the children to use critical thinking skills to enhance their development, and also inspire in them a love of lifelong learning.
