Year 6A

My name is Megan Hoskins, and I am from St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. In 2009, I graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English Language and Literature, and, in 2011, I graduated from McGill University with a Master’s of Arts in English Literature.

I first discovered my love for teaching as a performing arts instructor. For six years I had the pleasure of teaching dancing, acting, juggling, singing, and music to children ages six to 16 every summer. As a Year 6 teacher at HeadStart, I hope to combine my academic skills with my passion for sharing knowledge with others.

I feel the best teachers are patient, understanding, and kind; they can put themselves in their students’ shoes and imagine what children are thinking and feeling; they can anticipate what they need in order to learn and thrive. In addition, I believe it is important to know each child on an individual basis in order to properly meet his or her educational needs. When students enter the classroom each morning, they can instantly sense whether or not their teacher is there for them, so I like to approach my responsibilities with a high-energy enthusiasm that makes learning more exciting.

I am excited about the opportunity to teach at HeadStart and look forward to meeting both students and parents alike.
