Art & Design

Jody Louise Leow

My name is Jody and I come from England.  Art has always been my passion, I studied Fine Art at the University of Brighton in the UK during which time I spent six months studying at Alfred University in New York State.  Although my main subject was painting, my studies included working with a wide variety of media including printmaking, clay, and using iron and mixed media to create sculptures.

I had my own art studio for a year and moved to Thailand in 2000 where I started teaching English as a foreign language.  After four years I started teaching preschool which I loved but realised after a while that I wanted to teach what I really love and that is art.
I started working with HeadStart when it was still a small school in 2008 and have enjoyed being part of the school’s expansion.

In our art classes, students work with a variety of media such as acrylic paints, clay, oil pastels, wire, mosaic etc.  Children learn about art from different artists and different cultures.  Projects encourage creativity and give the children confidence in their work and themselves and develop their skills as artists.

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up”
—Pablo Picasso.
