PE Swimming
Alexandros Dimas
I swam competitively through school at Zone and Regional levels. I was a Nipper (Junior Lifeguard) then a patrolling Lifeguard for Freshwater Surf Life Saving Club and competed in Lifesaving events at Regional, State and Australian level. My love of the water led me to train to be a certified teacher of swimming and water safety as soon as I was old enough. I have been teaching and coaching swimming for 13 years in Australia, Europe and now Asia. I have taught babies, children and adults from beginners to competitive swimmers, as well as people with disabilities.
I have always loved teaching and feel I have a natural rapport with children of all ages. My aim as a teacher is to make children feel safe and comfortable in the water, while also having fun and feeling challenged.Having been a lifeguard on Australia’s beaches,I am only too aware of the tragedies that can take place in and around the water. If I can keep even one child from becoming a ‘statistic’, then my time and effort teaching will have been effective and well spent. Ibelieve everyone should know how to swim. Swimming is the only sport I know of that, once learned, can actually save a life – and that life could be yours or that of your child!
I have also studied Electrotechnology and most recently, Teaching English as a Foreign Language. As well as my passion for Soccer, Swimming and Surfing, I also trained at the local Muay Thai gym. At the beginning of this year my trainer advised me to come and train in Thailand. After having lived in Phuket for six months and training for five hours a day, I am really looking forward to teaching swimming again and continuing Muay Thai in my spare time.
