Early Years A Animal Fun ** *by Anisa van der Laan, Early Years A Teacher *This week we learned all about Big Cats and Jungle Animals, which was great fun! We finished the week with a roaring activity and painted our faces like our favorite Jungle Animals. Flutter, flutter, ROAR!!!
Early Years B Enjoys Outdoor Play Despite The Rain by Linda Osborne, Early Years B Teacher The children had fun at the Gymboree on Wednesday.
Early Years Visits The Aquarium *by the Early Years Teachers *Despite what looked like a really rainy Friday, Early Years A and B went on a fun field trip to the Phuket Aquarium. The students had been learning about ocean animals. They really enjoyed seeing some of the pictures and creatures we had talked about right in front of them! The rain totally cleared up allowing us to walk down and see the giant sea turtles, which the children really enjoyed and continued to talk about all the way back home.

Year 2A Assembly About Electricity by Lindsay Benner, Year 2A Teacher
In Year 2A we have been learning about electricity. We know all of the main parts of a circuit and what their job is to make a light bulb light up. We also know what electricity does for different appliances. For example: sometimes it makes things hot or cold, light up, make a sound or move.
Year 4A Uncovers Archaeology *by Claire Smyth, Year 4A Teacher *As part of our history unit, The Vikings, Year 4 learned about a famous archaeological excavation that happened in Coppergate, York. Over 40,000 artefacts were found dating as far back as the Viking era! The children used their iPads and laptops to research the archaeological artefacts found during this mammoth dig.
Year 5B Heart Rates *by Katie Axford, Year 5B Teacher *In Science, 5B has been learning about Keeping Healthy, with a focus on the heart and the heart rate. Students worked in pairs to design their own investigation to find out how much various activities would raise their heart rate. They wrote predictions, conducted their experiments, recording results in a table and a graph. They also had to write about their results and if their predictions were correct.
Christmas Shoebox Appeal *by Daniel Redley and Samantha Dear, Primary Teachers *It gives us great pleasure to introduce to you a fantastic new initiative that we are going to begin at Headstart School. Year 6 students have been discussing how they can help local communities, in particular disadvantaged children. They have decided that they want to take action to improve the lives of these children and provide them with a gift at Christmas time. This has made us want to launch a Christmas shoe box appeal. A shoebox appeal is an appeal that asks you and your children to create a shoebox that is filled with necessary items that will then be sent to local, disadvantaged children of Phuket. So that they can also share in the joy and excitement of the festive season just like we will be doing. Most of the items are small things that we may take for granted: soap, tooth brushes and tooth paste. These small items really do make a big difference. If you would like to know more about the local charity that we are working with please go to this website, www.asiacenterfoundation.org . We really hope that you can get involved with this initiative and are as excited about providing children in need with an experience that they will never forget and a lasting smile. Year 7 Excels in Science Project *by Alan Doyle, Biology Teacher *Year 7 have put a huge amount of effort into producing model cells for Biology.
Year 7A Performs at Flag Raising by Jackie Feliciano, Music Teacher At Flag Raising assembly this Friday the Year 7A class sang ‘Forever Young’ for the whole school. We were touched by their sincerity and beautiful voices!

** DofE Team Volunteers at Dog Shelter** *by Richard Allenby, DofE Coordinator *Last Saturday (4/10/14) the Year 10 students engaged in the Duke of Edinburgh’s ‘International Award’ Bronze level started the ‘Service’ element of the award. They formed three groups. One group went to ‘Bodhi Clinic’ dog rescue center. The day started wet and windy as the students met at 8:30am before going shopping at Makro for dog food. Upon arrival and after the initial ooh’s and ah’s at the cute, cuddly puppies, the students set to work cleaning the pound, removing dog poo and sweeping up leaves etc. Once the dirty jobs were over the puppies needed hand feeding and lots of cuddles.
Swimming Volunteer News by Stephen Kettley, PE Teacher** **These guys did a great job on the weekend. Poor weather but the kids had lots of fun.
DofE Team Volunteers at Vachira Hospital by Khru Nee,**Deputy Head of School **As part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Riny, Newle, Melanie, Michaela, Jil, Vy, Angela and Ruthie decided to help children who are sick with non-communicable diseases at Vachira Hospital. The students met with Khru Nee and Mr Goodman at school at 9:00am on Saturday morning and went with the school bus to the Children’s Wing of Vachira Hospital. The students had made plans to read stories, sing songs and play games with the sick children to try to make their lives a little happier. The feedback from everyone involved was very positive and HeadStart School is delighted to be able to have students spend their free time helping people less fortunate than themselves.

**U16 Girls Basketball Winners! **The U16 girls basketball team played in the Vegetarian Festival Basketball Tournament on Sunday the 5th October, 2014 and won!!! **Girl’s Football News **Last Saturday the U13 girls played their first game of the year. The games were organized with the YFH and BIS. The girls played well and most of all enjoyed themselves. ขอเชิญชวนผู้มีจิตเมตตาบริจาคของขวัญเทศกาลคริสมาสต์ โดย ** Daniel Redley และ Samantha Dear, Primary teachers **
นักเรียน Year 6 ได้มีการปรึกษากันเพื่อหาทางช่วยเหลือผู้อื่น โดยเฉพาะกับเด็กที่ด้อยโอกาส จึงคิดจะให้ของขวัญแก่พวกเค้าเหล่านั้นในช่วงเทศกาลคริสมาสต์ ก็เกิดเป็นโครงการรับบริจาคของขวัญ
ซึ่งขอให้ผู้ที่จะบริจาค รวบรวมสิ่งของจำเป็นต่างๆ เช่นสบู่ แปรงสีฟัน ยาสีฟัน เป็นต้น ใส่กล่องกระดาษแบบกล่องใส่รองเท้า แล้วนำมาบริจาค เราจะรวบรวมไปให้ผู้ด้อยโอกาส เพื่อพวกเค้าเหล่านั้นจะได้รับของขวัญ ในช่วงเทศกาล คริสมาสต์ เหมือนๆกับพวกเรา ของเล็กๆน้อยๆเหล่านี้มีความหมายมากนักสำหรับคนที่ยากจน ท่านสามารถอ่านรายละเอียดเพิ่มเติมเกี่ยวกับมูลนิธิที่เราให้การช่วยเหลือได้ที่ website,www.asiacenterfoundation.org .

เด็กๆ Year 2A เรียนเรื่องของไฟฟ้า เราทุกคนก็รู้กันอยู่แล้วเรื่องการทำงานของไฟฟ้า และการทำให้หลอดไฟสว่าง เราก็รู้อีกด้วยว่าไฟฟ้าทำงานให้เครื่องไฟฟ้าต่างๆ ทำงานแตกต่างออกไป เช่น ให้ความร้อน ความเย็น ความสว่าง เสียง ฯลฯ

ส่วนหนึ่งของกลุ่มประวัติศาสตร์เรื่อง The Vikings นักเรียน Year 4 ได้เรียนเรื่องการขุดค้นพบอันเลื่องลือที่เมือง Coppergate, York วัตถุโบราณจำนวนกว่า 40,000 ชิ้น ที่ถูกขุดเจอ มีอายุย้อนหลังไปถึงสมัย Viking! นักเรียนใช้ iPad และlaptop ช่วยในการค้นคว้าเรื่องโบราณคดีที่พบได้ในระหว่างขุดซาก mammoth**
นักเรียนYear 5B เรียนเรื่องการเต้นของหัวใจ โดย Katie Axford, Year 5B teacher
ในวิชาวิทยาศาสตร์ เด็กๆเรียนเกี่ยวกับการรักษาสุขภาพ โดยเน้นเรื่องหัวใจและการเต้นของหัวใจ นักเรียนจับคู่กันเพื่อออกแบบว่าจะมีวิธีตรวจเช็คอย่างไรให้ทราบว่ามีกิจกรรมใดๆบ้างส่งผลให้หัวใจเต้นแรงขึ้น พวกเค้าตั้งสมมุติฐานและทำการทดลอง แล้วบันทึกลงตารางและทำกราฟ พวกเค้ายังได้เขียนผลการทดลองเปรียบเทียบว่าตรงกับสมมุติฐานที่ได้ตั้งไว้หรือไม่

เมื่อวันเสาร์ที่ 4 ตุลาคม นักเรียน Year 10 เข้าทำกิจกรรมเป็นอาสาสมัครในโครงการ Duke of Edinburgh’s “International Award” Bronze level พวกเค้าแบ่งออกเป็น 3 กลุ่มๆแรก ไปที่สถานพักพิงสุนัขจรจัด วันนั้นฝนตกลมแรงแต่เช้าเด็กมารวมตัวกันเวลา 8:30 แล้วไปซื้ออาหารหมาที่ห้าง Makro ก่อน เมื่อนักเรียนไปถึงสถานที่นั้น ต่างก็ตื่นตาตื่นใจกับกความน่ารักของลูกหมาที่นั่น แล้วนักเรียนก็ช่วยกันกวาดล้างทำความสะอาดพื้น ฯลฯ หลังจากนั้นก็ช่วยกันให้อาหารลูกหมา ที่แสนจะน่ารักทั้งหลาย

Riny, Newle, Melanie, Michaela, Jil, Vy, Angela และ Ruthie 10 เข้าทำกิจกรรมเป็นอาสาสมัครในโครงการ Duke of Edinburgh’s “International Award” ที่โรงพยาบาลวชิระ โดยไปช่วยเหลือคนไข้เด็กๆกลุ่มที่เป็นโรคไม่ติดต่อ นักเรียนมาที่โรงเรียนเพื่อพบครูนี และ Mr.Goodman เวลา 09.00 น. ของวันเสาร์แล้วก็นั่งรถโรงเรียนไปที่โรงพยาบาล ที่ตึกคนไข้เด็ก นักเรียนเตรียมกิจกรรมมาหลายอย่างเช่น เล่านิทาน ร้องเพลง และเล่นเกมส์ กับคนไข้ตัวน้อยๆ เพื่อให้พวกเค้าสดชื่นขึ้น
ผลสะท้อนกลับมา ปรากฏว่านักเรียนทุกๆคนพอใจมาก ซึ่งทางโรงเรียนยินดีที่จะให้นักเรียนได้ทำประโยชน์แก่ผู้ที่ด้อยโอกาสอื่นๆ

คุณเจสัน ประธานบริหารและครูใหญ่ของโรงเรียน กรุณาสละเวลาแวะเข้ามาที่ห้อง Year 9 เพื่อแบ่งปันความรู้และประสบการณ์ ตลอดทั้งแนวทางในเรื่องความจำเป็นที่ควรจะต้องเรียนภาไทย พวกเค้าซาบซึ้งมากที่ท่านอุตส่าห์สละเวลามาให้แก่เรา ขอบคุณมากค่ะ!
แขกรับเชิญมาบรรยาย โดย Khru Sue, Lead Thai Teacher
คุณเปิ้ล ซึ่งเป็นผู้แทนของสมาคมผู้ปกครอง ได้มาบรรยายในชั้นเรียนภาษาไทย “เรื่องอะไรควรทำและอะไรไม่ควรทำ” ในเมืองไทยเรา นักเรียนสนุกสนานในการแลกเปลี่ยนความคิดเห็นกัน

ทีมบาสเก็ตบอลหญิงของเรา รุ่นอายุไม่เกิน 16 ปี ได้รับชัยชนะในการแข่งขันบาสเก็ตบอลกินผักคัพ เมื่อวันอาทิตย์ที่ 5 ตุลาคม พวกเราภาคภูมิใจมากในความพยายามและมุ่งมั่นที่นักกีฬาแต่ละคนได้ทุ่มเทในการแข่งขัน คะแนน: กะทู้วิทยา 24-26 HeadStart Panthers

เมื่อวันเสาร์ที่ผ่านมา นักบอลหญิง รุ่นอายุไม่เกิน 13 ปี ได้ลงปะทะหน้าแข้งเป็นนัดแรกของปีนี้ รายการนี้จัดโดย YFH และ BIS นักกีฬาเล่นได้ดี และส่วนมากสนุกในการแข่งครั้งนี้ และรอที่จะพบกันอีกในวันเสาร์หน้า
