Cambridge Outstanding Learner Awards by Adam Drew, Director of Studies
Cambridge International Examinations recently released the details of the winners of their ‘Outstanding Learner Awards’ for the June 2014 IGCSE Examinations. These awards are split into three categories, ‘Top in the World’, ‘Top in Thailand’ and ‘High Achievement’ in a particular subject.
Across all three categories, CIE made 60 awards for the whole of Thailand in June 2014, and just 12 awards in the category of High Achievement. Three students from HeadStart were given an award in the category of High Achievement. This is a fantastic achievement, and shows just how hard these students have worked in order to be recongised in this way, very few students are lucky enough to receive this award each year and in fact, only 12 students in the whole of Thailand achieved it this year.

Reception Makes Castles by Laura Baillie, Reception teacher
Reception have been learning about castles. We had great fun in our castle role play and we loved making a giant castle outside using the parachute. We also made our own crowns so we could be the King or Queen of the castle.

I received these deliveries today from two of the children in my class! They have worked so hard together with their parents to create these boxes! Thank you for your contributions and for your effort to help those less fortunate.
Year 4A Learns about the Digestive System by Claire Smyth, Year 4A teacher
As part of our studies of humans and animals, Year 4 have been learning all about the digestive system. Today we made a model digestive system using tissue paper and glue!
5A Field Trip to the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project and Bang Pae Falls by Heidi St. Hill, Year 5 A teacher**
5A traveled to Paklok to visit the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project and learn all about these beautiful primates which are very endangered. Native to Phuket, they have been poached and are used as pets or tourist traps. The students learned why it is so important not to pay for pictures with these animals and how they can help stop the extinction of the gibbons. After, they hiked up to the beautiful Bang Pae Falls. A sweaty but rewarding walk up into the forest, 5A had a great time.
5B Field Trip To The Gibbon Rehabilitation Centre by Katie Axford, Year 5B Teacher
5B visited the Gibbon Rehabilitation Centre and the Bang Pae Waterfall in Paklok. We learned a lot about the Gibbons, why they are in the centre, what they eat and how long it takes them to be ready to release to the wild. We then enjoyed a walk up to the waterfall.

Art Students Study Paul Cezanne by Jody Leow, Art teacher
Year 5 studied the work of Paul Cezanne and then drew their own still life drawings. Year 8 drew charcoal drawings of shells. Year 9 created a poster about a famous artist of their choice.

Wai Kru Ceremony by Khru Sue, Lead Thai teacher
HeadStart’s annual “Wai Kru Ceremony” took place on Thursday, 16th October 2014. The ceremony gave students the opportunity to pay respect to their teachers by offering them flowers. Four different representatives from Year 6 and 10 gave very touching speeches expressing their gratitude to the teachers for the tireless efforts and guidance.

Reception Students Learning About The Wai Kru Ceremony Reception students are also very excited about the “Wai Kru Ceremony”. They have been talking about, and preparing, what they will bring for their teachers.

PIAS Football Friendly at Thanyapura News by Tladi Small, Head of P.E.
On Saturday, the 11th of October, over 60 HeadStart Panthers played in the PIAS football tournament. There were thrills, spills, last minute heart break and joy. Special thanks to all the coaches, parents and drivers for making this an enjoyable day for all. The groups that played were the under 7 boys, Under 9 boys, Under 11 boys, the Girls football team, Under 13 boys and the Over 15 boys team. Scores will be announced on the Weekly Update sent out on Friday
HSIS/BIS Teacher’s Football Friendlies
On Tuesday, the 15th of October, HeadStart teachers played vs the BISP teachers.

James Van Herzeele Plays Tennis with Sharapova by Miki Edouard, Events Manager
James Van Herzeele, student in Year 7A, is currently Thailand’s #1 Under 12 Male Tennis player. James won 39 out of 40 games in last year’s tournaments. As part of James’ advancement and experience in the sport, he was able to meet and play a few rounds of tennis with the world’s #2 Female Tennis player Maria Sharapova, on her visit to Phuket last week.

Phuket Youth Sailing Club presents Phuket Youth Week, co-sponsored by The Sponsorship Experts –PP (SEA) CL and Topper Sail Phuket, a week of sailing and other fun water activities ending with a 2-Day Regatta.
Along with the fun and time out on the water, Phuket Youth Week, offers participants the chance to learn to sail for the complete novice and an opportunity to grow existing skills for those who sail already. As well as having lots of fun and meeting new friends, youngster will learn the following skills:
- The principles of basic dinghy sailing - Key tactical skills used in competitive racing - Stand Up Paddling & Kayaking - Powerboat handling
All youngsters from the age of eight are welcome to take part in Phuket Youth Week. Training will be offered through Topper Sail Phuket, RYA Training School and Thai National Coaches.
There is an exciting 2-day Regatta planned on the 25th & 26thOctober which is open to all other sailors who wish to compete. There will be classes for the Optimist, Topper and Topaz. Prizes will be awarded under the following categories
- Beginners new to racing “Green Fleet” - Advanced sailors “Racing Fleet”
RYA Club Coach, Katy Gooch said: “Sailing provides excellent life training for young people. It helps build self-confidence and key life skills such as leadership and teamwork in a hands-on fun and friendly environment. We would like to see more youngsters enjoying the sport of sailing”
Phuket Youth Week also helps sailors to prepare for the coming season and the opportunity to get more sailors interested in racing.
The Phuket Youth Sailing Team have been successful in a number of regattas, represented Phuket in major events in Thailand. Now on the International stage our sailors have represented Thailand at the Double Star Cup, Qingdao, China 2012, Royal Langawi Regatta 2014 and most recently the Topper Worlds Championships 2014 in Wales, UK. Wouldn’t you like to be out there experiencing wonderful new adventures just like these? Wouldn’t you like your child to be part of this successful personal development programme?
Phuket Youth Sailing Club successful junior sailing program offers a balance between racing and just ‘mucking around in boats’ and having fun on the water.
The club is open every weekend offering fun practice sailing sessions and RYA sailing and powerboat courses.

เมื่อเร็วๆนี้ ทางศูนย์วัดผลการสอบนานาชาติของมหาวิทยาลัย Cambridge ได้ประกาศรายละเอียดผู้ที่ชนะรางวัลนักเรียนดีเด่นจากการสอบวัดผล IGCSE เมื่อเดือนมิถุนายน 2557 รางวัลนี้แบ่งออกเป็น 3 ประเภท คือ 1.ประเภทแชมป์โลก 2.แชมป์ประเทศไทย 3. แชมป์ยอดเยี่ยมเฉพาะวิชา
ในทั้ง 3 ประเภทนี้ ทางศูนย์ฯได้มอบรางวัลให้นักเรียนดีเด่นของประเทศไทยทั้งหมด 60 รางวัล และมีแค่ 12 รางวัลในสาขายอดเยี่ยมเฉพาะวิชา ซึ่ง 3 ใน 12 รางวัลนี้ เป็นของนักเรียน HeadStart นี่เป็นความสำเร็จที่เหมือนฝัน ที่แสดงให้เห็นว่านักเรียนได้พยายามหนักเพียงใดกว่าจะมาถึงจุดนี้ได้ ซึ่งน้อยคนนักที่จะโชคดีพอที่จะชนะรางวัลนี้ได้ โดยเฉพาะในปีนี้ ที่มีแค่ 12 คนเท่านั้นทั้งประเทศไทยที่ได้รับ ขอแสดงความยินดีแก่ :

โรงเรียนนานาชาติ HeadStart ได้จัดพิธีไหว้ครูประจำปี เมื่อวันพฤหัสบดี ที่ 16 ตุลาคม 2557 นักเรียนมีโอกาสได้แสดงความระลึกถึงบุญคุณของครูโดยการมอบดอกไม้ให้ครู ตัวแทนนักเรียนจำนวน 4 คนจากYear 6 และ10 ได้กล่าวสุนทรพจน์ เทิดพระคุณครูที่ได้ทุ่มเท แรงกายแรงใจในการอบรมสั่งสอนนักเรียนอย่างไม่รู้จักเหน็ดเหนื่อย

เมื่อวันเสาร์ที่ 11 ตุลาคมที่ผ่านมานี้ นักกีฬาทีม HeadStart Panthers ได้ลงแข้งในรายการ PIAS football เป็นประสบการณ์ที่ตื่นเต้น เหลือประมาณ และความผิดหวังบวกกับความปีติยินดีในนาทีสุดท้าย ขอขอบคุณโค้ชทุกๆคน ผู้ปกครอง และพนักงานขับรถ ที่ช่วยให้วันนี้เต็มไปด้วยความสนุกสนานรื่นเริง ทีมต่างๆที่ได้ลงแข้งในรายการนี้ ได้แก่ทีมชายอายุไม่เกิน 7 ปี ทีมชายอายุไม่เกิน 9 ปี ทีมชายอายุไม่เกิน 11 ปี ทีมหญิง ทีมชายอายุไม่เกิน 13 ปี ทีมชายอายุเกิน 15 ปี ผลการแข่งขันจะแจ้งให้ทราบใน Weekly Update ครั้งต่อไป

James Van Herzeele ได้ลงสนามลองหวดลูกกับมือโปรอันดับ 2 Sharapova โดย ** Miki Edouard, Events Manager
James Van Herzeele ซึ่งเป็นนักเรียนชั้น Year 7A ของเรา และขณะนี้น้องได้คว้าตำแหน่งมือวางอันดับ 1 ของประเทศไทยไปครองแล้ว ในรุ่นชาย อายุไม่เกิน 12 ปี ผลงานเมื่อปีกลาย น้อง James ชนะ 39 นัดจากการลงแข่งทั้งหมด 40 นัด ส่วนหนึ่งของการพัฒนาการและจากประสบการณ์ที่มากมายในกีฬาเทนนิส ทำให้น้อง James ได้มีโอกาสลงสนามลองหวดลูกกับ Maria Sharapova ซึ่งเป็นมือวางอันดับ 2 ของโลก เมื่อตอนที่เธอแวะมาเที่ยวภูเก็ตสัปดาห์ที่แล้ว
