Outstanding Cambridge Learners Ceremony by Mark Goodman, Head of Secondary
The Cambridge ceremony rewarded and recognised iGCSE and AS / A Level candidates in fields such as Top in the World, Top in Thailand and High Achievers On Monday 1st December 2014, Headstart School was proud to attend the Presentation of Outstanding Cambridge Learners Ceremony at The Ambassador Hotel in Bangkok.
Three of our students who took exams in June 2014, Elizaveta Kostikova, Zoey Ezendam and Myriam Moeller were rewarded by Cambridge as being ‘High Achievers’
This is an extremely prestigious award and we are rightfully proud of our students.
Particularly pleasing is that 15 schools were representing Thailand at the ceremony and all but two of them were from Bangkok. HeadStart was there, firmly putting Phuket on the map!
Good News for Parking! We have managed to secure one and a half rai of land next to the school for additional parking. We hope to park up to 80 cars in this space. This space will be in use Monday morning. Please contact the upstairs office for further questions. **
Foundation News
Foundation Christmas Assembly The Foundation department was proud to present their first assembly last Tuesday from 8:30-9:00 am. Their performances featured a Christmas theme complete with songs, dances and some drama! Thank you Foundation teachers for your incredible effort and the parents who came to watch. We also want to thank Anna, mother of Sasha, who took such fantastic photos!
Foundation will be hosting one assembly per term so stay tuned for their next performance date.

We talked about how the animals stay warm, and which animals like to live in very cold places and which do not. For Outdoor Learning we filled up our tubs with heaps of ice and let the students play with the animals in the ice. We talked about water freezing and melting and did little experiments to see where the ice would melt faster, out in the sun, or in the shade. The children enjoyed this activity very much!

Merit Winners Visit Escape Hunt as a reward for Good Behaviour!
Shark Guardian Fund Raising by Els Bellon, Head of Primary** On Friday the 28th of November, HeadStart students donated 10,670 THB to the Shark Guardian Charity. Ms Gail Clarke, visited most classes in primary and secondary to collect the money from students who chose to come to school in casual clothes, that way contributing to the charity. Shark Guardian together with Ms Gail Clarke are publishing their first educational book called Jed the Hammerhead education students all over the world about the importance of shark preservation. With our donation they will be able to publish and distribute the books around the world as well as travel to schools with their educational programmes.

Year 4 Extra Extra! By Claire Smyth, Year 4A teacher Year 4 teamed up to write paired newspaper reports about all of the fun things that happen at Headstart. The children had a great time interviewing the pupils and staff of Headstart and then sold the newspaper around the school.
Year 4 Geography Project by Kate Johnson Year 4B teacher Year 4B’s geography topic is tsunamis. To learn more about how they form, the students created their own mini tsunamis in a bucket.

Top Merit Winners We would like to congratulate the following five students who have earned the most merits this term! As a reward for their good behavior and effort these students participated in the Escape Hunt activity that was organized for the top merit House earners.
Father Christmas comes early! On Wednesday 3rd December, whilst Year 10B were doing an assembly about the traditions of Christmas, a strange old man with a white beard entered the library, dressed in red and began handing out sweets. Luckily, members of management were on hand to make sure that no one broke the ‘no eating in the library’ rule and all sweets were confiscated………….
Secondary Chess Fun! Two members of management, Mr Drew (Director of Studies) and Mr Kaushal (Head of maths and science) were challenged to a game of chess by Alexia and Philip from Year 10!

Foundation Sports Day Reminder by Fiona Whittaker, Sports Teacher A reminder that you are invited to come and watch your child participate in a variety of sporting activities on Wednesday 10th December. They will be performing skills and techniques that we have learnt in PE lessons.

Inventories are a lot of hard work. It is very boring, tiring, and hard on the back (because you sit at the computer for long periods of time) … so why do I do one?
One of the jobs that a Librarian does is prepare a list of books to order every year. But, how do I figure out what books to order? It’s not simply a matter of ordering what everyone has asked for or likes (although that is definitely one of the things I pay attention to).
Before I order books, I need to know what books I have – so I don’t order too many of the same ones. I need to know which books are missing or too damaged to read, so I can replace them. And, I need to know if a series of books is complete, so I can complete that series. The only way that I can find out all of those things is by doing an inventory. Once I have completed an inventory, I order all of the books that are missing, need replacing, are so popular that they are worn out, and anything that the teachers and students have requested.
I am going to do an inventory over the Christmas Season (yes, I am working while you are relaxing!) so, that I can order books for the new school. Therefore, I need everyone to please return all of the books that you have at home, in the classroom, in your backpack, or in your hands before you go home for your holiday please.

ทางโรงเรียนของเรามีความภาคภูมิใจเป็นอย่างยิ่ง ที่ได้เข้าร่วมในพิธีมอบยอดเยี่ยมให้แก่นักเรียนของ Cambridge ที่แบ่งเป็น3 ประเภท คือ คะแนนสูงสุดในโลก คะแนนสูงสุดในประเทศไทย และยอดเยี่ยมเฉพาะสาขา เมื่อวันจันทร์ที่ 1 ธันวาคม 57 ที่โรงแรมแอมบาสเดอร์ กรุงเทพฯ
นักเรียนของเราเข้าสอบ 4 คน ซึ่ง 3 ใน 4คนนี้ ได้รับรางวัลยอดเยี่ยมเฉพาะสาขา
ทางโรงเรียนภูมิใจมากที่นักเรียนของเราชนะรางวัลอันทรงเกียรตินี้
ที่ภูมิใจมากๆเลย ที่ว่านักเรียนที่ชนะรางวัลทั้งหมดที่มาจากโรงเรียนในประเทศไทยมี 15 โรงเรียน มีแค่ 2โรงเรียนเท่านั้นที่ไม่ใช่โรงเรียนในกรุงเทพฯ โรงเรียนเฮดสตาร์ทเป็นหนึ่งในสองโรงเรียนนั้น ทำให้โลกรู้จักภูเก็ตว่ามีโรงเรียนของ Cambridge ที่มีนักเรียนสอบได้คะแนนติดอันดับโลก
ข่าวดี.. เพิ่มที่จอดรถข้างโรงเรียน
โรงเรียนได้เช่าที่ดินที่ติดกันกับโรงเรียน จำนวน 1ไร่ครึ่ง เพื่อใช้เป็นที่จอดรถเพิ่มเติม สำหรับผู้ปกครอง หวังว่าจะจอดได้ถึงประมาณ 80 คัน ได้เริ่มดำเนินการปรับหน้าดินให้เรียบ จะสามารถจอดรถได้ตั้งแต่วันจันทร์นี้เป็นต้นไป ถามรายละเอียดเพิ่มเติมได้ที่ออฟฟิศชั้นบนค่ะ

** เด็กอนุบาลแสดงกิจกรรมเกี่ยวกับวันคริสมาสต์**
เมื่อเช้าวันอังคารที่ผ่านมานี้ เวลา 08:30 น. - 09:00 น. แผนกอนุบาลได้จัดแสดงกิจกรรมเป็นครั้งแรกที่ห้องสมุด เป็นกิจกรรมเกี่ยวกับวันคริสมาสต์ ผสมผสานทั้งเพลง เต้นรำ และแสดงละคร ขอขอบคุณ ครูอนุบาลทุกๆคนที่ทุ่มเทอย่างเต็มที่ และขอแสดงความขอบคุณเป็นพิเศษแก่ Anna คุณแม่ของน้อง Sasha ที่ช่วยถ่ายรูปสวยๆส่งมาให้ค่ะ

ชอบอยู่ในที่หนาวมากๆ และพวกใดบ้างไม่ชอบ ในคาบวิชาเรียนนอกห้อง เด็กๆเอาน้ำใส่อ่างแล้วเติมน้ำแข็ง จากนั้นให้เด็กๆเล่นตุ๊กตาสัตว์ต่างๆในอ่างนั้น เราคุยกันเรื่องน้ำกลายเป็นน้ำแข็ง และน้ำแข็งละลายเป็นน้ำ และทำการทดลองกันนิดหน่อย เพื่อที่เด็กๆจะได้สังเกตว่าที่ไหนน้ำแข็งจะละลายเร็วกว่ากัน ระหว่างกลางแดดและในที่ร่ม เด็กๆสนุกกับกิจกรรมนี้มาก **

กลุ่มนักเรียนความประพฤติดีที่ได้คะแนนสูงสุดของ Merit House ได้ไปเที่ยวที่ห้องปริศนา สุดยอดเกมส์หาทางออก
รณรงค์หาเงินสมทบทุนช่วยมูลนิธคุ้มครองปลาฉลาม โดย Els Bellon, Head of Primary เมื่อวันศุกร์ ที่ 28 พฤศจิกายน นี้ นักเรียนของเราได้รวบรวมเงินบริจาค ได้ทั้งหมดจำนวน 10,670บาท มอบให้มูลนิธิคุ้มครองปลาฉลาม คุณ Gail Clarke ได้เข้ามาเยี่ยมชั้นเรียนประถมฯและมัธยมฯ เพื่อเดินรับเงินบริจาค จากนักเรียนที่เตรียมเงินมาบริจาคในวันศุกร์ที่อนุญาตให้แต่งตัวตามสบายเพื่อแลกกับการบริจาคเงินให้องค์การการกุศล มูลนิธิคุ้มครองปลาฉลามร่วมกับคุณ Gail Clarke ร่วมกันพิมพ์หนังสือเล่มแรกออกมาชื่อว่า Jed ปลาฉลามหัวค้อน เพื่อให้ความรู้แก่สาธารณชนเกี่ยวกับความจำเป็นที่เราต้องอนุรักษ์ปลาฉลาม ด้วยเงินบริจาคของเรานี้ จะช่วยเป็นค่าใช้จ่ายในการพิมพ์หนังสือเล่มนี้และส่งออกไปทั่วโลก และช่วยค่าเดินทางไปเยี่ยมตามโรงเรียนต่างๆ
