On the 28-29th of Augusut, the ECA tea organised an Extra Curricular Activities Fair in order to provide our community with the chance to meet outside ECA providers and inquire about the programmes on offer. Here is a look at some of the exciting programmes that are on offer: Dance Programme, Tennis, Flag Football, Saturday Swim Club, MMA & Jiu Jitsu, STEAM Clubs (Robotics, Coding Lab, 3D Pens, Jewellery making, Lego Creative, Puzzle Boost), Chess, Spanish language classes and finally English for Parents!

Student News

Year 5 white thoroughly enjoyed our exploration in Science! Tasked with independently finding out about materials and their properties, students had to work around the room and investigate lots of different materials; finding out about their flexibility, transparency, magnetism and hardness. Students also had to consider what the usefulness of each material has by considering its properties. -Ms Charlotte Myers

EAL Graduation

The great Cecil Rhodes said ‘remember that you are an Englishman, and have subsequently drawn the greatest prize in the lottery of life.’ The sentiment is also true when replacing the word ‘Englishman’ with ‘English speaker.’ English is the de facto lingua franca of the world; as native speakers of English, it’s easy to forget how lucky we are and how much we take our language for granted. Make no mistake, it is an immense achievement that we celebrated today, witnessing students in Years 8 to 10 celebrate their graduating from EAL lessons. In doing so, it is affirmation that their English has improved to such a level that they are able to function on a proficient and conceptual level. Through resilience, collaboration and courage, these students have worked doggedly to enjoy their moment in the sun. Their thanks and mine go especially to their EAL teacher Ms. Davidson and to all their English teachers last year and this. -David Pollicutt, Head of English & EAL A full album of photos of the EAL graduates can be found on the HeadStart Facebook page.
