Weekly Update 22
The increase in space will now allow us to offer more subjects and options for our students. Next year’s curriculum has been expanded to include Design and Technology, IGCSE Art and Music as well as 8 Cambridge A-Level courses. This increase in facilities and subjects will enable us to give more options and choices to our students in order to allow them to focus and develop their individual strengths and preferences. To further support our students learning and achievements, we will have 3 state of the art science laboratories, 3 dedicated and expansive ICT suites and 2 purpose built art and music rooms. Each of these rooms has been designed by specialists in their field and will equip our high calibre teachers with the tools they need to deliver an outstanding curriculum and ensure your child’s development and achievement is first class.
We are proud to say that 73 of our current teachers have renewed their contracts for next year. Our teaching team continues to grow and we will be hiring 15 new teachers to join the team for next year, to both replace those staff who will be leaving us, and to expand our teaching staff in a number of key areas. Our total teaching staff will rise to at least 96 members starting in August. Our management team has done many interviews over the last couple of months and we have now hired qualified, experienced, dedicated and inspired teachers for Foundation and Primary as well as specialists for science, art, music, design and technology, P.E. and many other fields. The quality and experience of our staff continues to grow each year, and we are truly confident that the staffing body in place for the start of the 2015/2016 academic year will not only be one of the strongest in the history of HeadStart School, but will be one of the most dedicated and inspiring of all schools on the island.
The school’s new sporting facilities will be just one of the major significant upgrades at the new school and will include an athletics track, 25 meter swimming pool with separate children’s pool, an outdoor basketball court, a multipurpose sports hall will offer 3 badminton courts, a volley ball court and an indoor basketball court. Externally, two football pitches, 2 playgrounds, a volleyball court and running track will enhance our sporting offering. Inside the main building, we will also have a dance room and within the new sport centre a large fitness suite. These outstanding facilities will not only become a daily part of all our student’s physical education and development but this will also enable us to launch new academy style programmes for football and swimming.
We are delighted to announce that starting next year we will have full time swimming and football coaches dedicated to managing and delivering intensive sporting programmes for gifted athletes.
We want to thank all of the parents and families who have trusted and supported the school and our team through this development and we look forward to continuing to work together with you as we strive to fulfil our mission of delivering a quality education to each of our students and building on the HeadStart commitment of Inspiring a love of learning.

Gibbon Rehabilitation Project Fund Raising by Els Bellon, Head of Primary** On Friday the 30th of January, Mikael Mahlberg made a short presentation about the gibbon rehabilitation project during flag raising ceremony. We found out that gibbons are an endangered species and were extinct in Phuket’s wildlife for quite a few years. Baby gibbons are taken from the wild to be used in tourism. For every gibbon you now see on the streets, 10 others have died in the wild. Gibbons are very much like humans and will attack to protect their infants. Quite often whole families are killed to be able to take the baby gibbon. The babies are then used to earn money by asking tourists to take pictures with them. Once they grow a bit bigger their teeth are extracted and they are drugged to keep them under control. According to Thai law, it is illegal to use gibbons in tourism. At the Gibbon Rehabilitation Center they try to rehabilitate these apes and reintroduce them to the forests of Phuket, Ranong and Chiang Mai. The gibbon project works with volunteers and entirely relies on donations to build the cages and buy the food for the animals that are waiting to be reintroduced. To help the gibbon project we organised our casual Friday on the 6th of February and managed to raise over 16, 000 THB. Students also promised to NOT have their pictures taken with gibbons on the streets of Phuket or anywhere else. Some students made a significant contribution and decided to buy a gibbon doll for 800 THB. Our year 3 students made a trip to the gibbon project to find out how it all works and donated some more money on site. You can help too!
- Maybe make a visit to the gibbon project yourself! They are down at Bang Pae Waterfall. 2. If you see baby gibbons on the streets, inform the gibbon project about where and when you saw them. 3. Talk with visitors about not having their photo taken with wildlife.

The Term 2 Foundation assembly will start at 8:45. All Foundation students will be performing. Please try and bring your child to school just before 8:30. Duke of Edinburgh Practice Weekend ** by Richard Allenby, DofE co ordinator** Eight students from year 10 left the comfort of home to spend the weekend training for the Duke of Edinburgh International Award Bronze Adventurous Journey. Over the weekend they did team building exercises, stretching exercises, navigation and route planning, cooking, camping and Kayaking. Literacy Week is almost here! By Nola Russell, Librarian** Literacy Week will be held on the last week of Term 2 (immediately after International Day). We’ve had to change the dates in order to accommodate the Checkpoint Exams, which will be held in the Library, on the first week of Term 3. In addition to all of the events that we are continuing to host (Book Swap, Author Presentations, etc.), I am introducing a new game to Literacy Week: Reading Bingo. Every student should have received a Reading Bingo Sheet on Friday. This means that they have 6 weeks to read 4 or 5 books in the genres listed. Instructions for Reading Bingo: Read a book, choose which square it qualifies for, write the title and author in the square. **Only one square per book. Fill in a complete line … across, down or diagonal. Put their name and year/class at the top of the page. Hand the page in to the Library, by 4pm on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, answer questions about the books and they will get their name put in the draw to win a Mystery Prize. I look forward to seeing what everyone has been reading!

Football Friendly Results from Saturday 7th February The Girls Football teams (one younger team of year 5 and below and one older team of year 6 and above) played against BISP. The girls had a great time and played hard and fair final results from the 3 games were 1 win, 1 loss and 1 draw.
The U9 and U11 boys also player friendly matches against BISP. There were two under 11 and two under 9 teams. The under 11 were highly successful staying undefeated throughout the morning. The under 9s founds it slightly hard but were never dishearten and played hard despite the score line being no so favourable.

Senior boys Football League Results Thursday 11th February HEADSTART PANTHERS 5-2 QSI - The senior boys team started the league with a bang. Scoring five goals against a tough QSI team. In a physical game, The Panthers began the scoring with a far post header from Darren. This was quickly followed up by Film to make the score 2-0 to the home team. Just like the Under 15 team, the senior boys took their foot off the gas and allowed QSI to score 2 goals to make the score 2-2 at half time. In the second half the Panthers came with a new purpose and quickly regained the lead with a far post header. This was quickly repeated another two times to leave the score 5-2 to home side.
Yr2 Swim Gala Results by Fiona Whittaker, P.E. teacher Year 2 students did lots of races and had lots fun doing competitive activities at the pool for the House swimming gala. Everybody was swimming their very best not only for themselves but for their Houses too. Here are the Results: 4th place = Blue Tigers with 108pt 3rd= Green Dragons with 111 pts 2nd=Red Cardinals with 120pts 1st= Yellow Cheetahs with 137pts WINNERS [imagevue path=”/imagevue/content/Swim Gala/” recursive=”y”]

ภาพหนึ่งภาพบอกอะไรได้มากกว่าคำพูดตั้งหนึ่งพันคำ Mr และ Mrs Fiems ถ่ายรูปนี้จากอากาศ เป็นภาพการก่อสร้างโรงเรียนเฮดสตาร์ทแห่งใหม่ ซึ่งจะเห็นว่าในส่วนของอาคารของอนุบาล อาคารของประถมฯและมัธยมฯ โรงยิม และสระว่ายน้ำนั้นแล้วเสร็จไปแล้ว 70% มีกำหนดย้ายเข้าได้ประมาณสิ้นเดือนมิถุนายน 2558 ในส่วนอื่นๆนอกจากนี้ก็ตรงตามกำหนดเช่นกัน ทางโรงเรียนรับรองได้ว่าโรงเรียนใหม่นี้พร้อมที่จะเปิดทำการในวันที่ 24 สิงหาคม 2558 อย่างแน่นอน
โรงเรียนใหม่นี้ มีพื้นที่ใช้สอยเพิ่มมากกว่าที่เก่า สะดวกที่จะจัดเพิ่มวิชาและตัวเลือกอื่นๆ ในปีหน้าจะได้เพิ่มหลักสูตร การสอน ที่จะเปิดเพิ่มก็มี วิชาการออกแบบและเทคโนโลยี่ IGCSE วิชาศิลปะและดนตรี และ A-Level จำนวน 8 วิชา การเพิ่มอุปกรณ์ต่างๆและเพิ่มวิชาเลือกเหล่านี้ จะช่วยให้โอกาสนักเรียน เลือกวิชาที่ตนเองถนัดและทุ่มเทพัฒนาในวิชานั้นๆเต็มที่ โรงเรียนใหม่จะมี ห้องแล็ปวิทยาศาสตร์ทันสมัยใหม่ล่าสุด 3 ห้อง ห้องแล็ปคอมพิวเตอร์สุดหรู 3 ห้อง และ ห้องศิลปะและห้องดนตรี 2 ห้อง ออกแบบโดยผู้เชี่ยวชาญ อุปกรณ์การสอนครบครัน ให้ครูไฟแรงของเราจะได้สอนนักเรียนได้เต็มที่
ครูของเราที่ได้ต่อสัญญากับทางโรงเรียนในปีหน้ามีถึง 73 คนแล้ว เราจะขยายเพิ่มจำนวนครูอีก โดยจะเซ็นต์สัญญาเพิ่มอีกกับครูประมาณ 15 คนสำหรับปีหน้า เพื่อทดแทนครูที่ไม่ต่อสัญญา และเพิ่มครูขึ้นในหลายสาขาวิชา ในเดือนสิงหาคมนี้ จำนวนครูทั้งหมดเพิ่มขึ้นเป็น อย่างน้อย 96 คน คณะผู้บริหารได้ทยอยสัมภาษณ์ครูใหม่ๆ ในช่วง 2 เดือนที่ผ่านมา และได้ทำการเซ็นต์สัญญาจ้างครูใหม่ๆที่พร้อมมีคุณวุฒิและประสบการณ์ที่เหมาะสม ในแผนกอนุบาล ประถมศึกษา และครูผู้เชี่ยวชาญต่าง แผนกวิทยาศาสตร์ ศิลปะ ดนตรี การออกแบบและเทคโนโลยี่ พละศึกษาและแผนกอื่นๆ เราได้เพิ่มพูนคุณภาพและประสบการณ์ของทีมงานของโรงเรียนขึ้นทุกปี และโรงเรียนมั่นใจเหลือเกินว่า ในปีการศึกษา 2015/2016 นี้จะเป็นทีมงานที่สมบูรณ์ที่สุดในประวัติศาสตร์ของเฮดสตาร์ท ไม่เพียงแต่เท่านั้น หากยังเป็นทีมงานที่ทุ่มเทให้กับการสอนอย่างมากที่สุดในบรรดาโรงเรียนทั้งหลายในภูเก็ตด้วย
ประเภทสนามกีฬาของโรงเรียนใหม่นั้นมีการ เพิ่มเติมขึ้นมากมาย เช่น มีลู่วิ่ง สระว่ายน้ำ 25 เมตรและสระตื้นของเด็กแยกออกมาต่างหาก สนามบาสเก็ตบอลภายนอก อาคารอเนกประสงค์ที่ประกอบด้วย 3 สนามแบดมินตัน สนามวอลเลย์บอล สนามบาสเก็ตบอล ส่วนภายนอกประกอบด้วยสนามฟุตบอล 2 แห่ง สนามเด็กเล่น 2 แห่ง สนามวอลเลย์บอล และลู่วิ่ง นอกจากนั้นภายในอาคารยังมีห้องเต้นรำ และโรงยิมหรูหราขนาดใหญ่ สถานที่และอุปกรณ์ที่ครบครันนี้จะใช้เป็นที่สอนและที่ฝึกซ้อมของนักเรียน ซึ่งในอนาคตทางโรงเรียนก็จะได้เพิ่มหลักสูตรการสอนฟุตบอลและว่ายน้ำ ด้วย
ทางผู้บริหารโรงเรียนมีความภูมิใจที่จะแจ้งให้ทราบว่าตั้งแต่ปีการศึกษาหน้าเป็นต้นไป เราจะเพิ่มตำแหน่งโค้ชว่ายน้ำและโค้ชฟุตบอล โดยเฉพาะ เพื่อมาทำหน้าที่บริหารจัดการหลักสูตรติวเข้มสำหรับทีมนักกีฬาที่มีพรสวรรค์ทั้งหลายของเรา

คณะกรรมการของโรงเรียน ไปเยี่ยมชมโรงเรียน วันอังคาร ที่ 10 กุมภาพันธ์ คณะกรรมการผู้ถือหุ้น อาทิ คุณเจสัน คุณมิกิ้ ดร.ปริมล ไพรสำราญ คุณอนิสา และ คุณปิยะนุช หงษ์หยก ได้เดินทางไปเยี่ยมชมการก่อสร้างโรงเรียนใหม่ โดยมีคุณฮิว บัทเลอร์ ผู้จัดการโครงการ เป็นเจ้าภาพ พาเดินสำรวจความคืบหน้าและสนทนากันเรื่องการทำให้สมบูรณ์ในรายละเอียด ทุกอย่างเสร็จตามกำหนดและโรงเรียนพร้อมที่จะเปิดได้ทัน ปีการศึกษา 2015-2016 คือวันที่ 24 สิงหาคม 2015
การรณรงค์หาเงินสมทบทุนเพื่อช่วยเหลือโครงการคืนชะนีสู่ป่า โดย Els Bellon, Head of Primary เมื่อวันศุกร์ที่ 30 มกราคม คุณไมเคิล มาลเบิร์ก ( Mikael Mahlberg) แวะเข้ามาเยี่ยมตอนเคารพธงชาติ ได้ให้ความรู้แก่พวกเรา เรื่องโครงการคืนชะนีสู่ป่า ทำให้เราทราบว่าชะนีเป็นสัตว์ป่าที่ใกล้จะสูญพันธุ์ และชะนีหมดไปจากป่าของภูเก็ตมาหลายปีแล้ว ในป่าพรานจะฆ่าชะนีทั้งครอบครัวถึง 10 ตัว เพื่อแย่งเอาลูกชะนีมาใช้หาเงินกับนักท่องเที่ยว ธรรมชาติของชะนีนั้นคล้ายกับมนุษย์มากในเรื่องความรักลูกและปกป้องลูก บ่อยๆครั้งที่ทั้งครอบครัวถูกฆ่าตายหมดเพื่อจะเอาลูกชะนีแค่ตัวเดียว จากนั้น ลูกชะนีก็จะถูกนำมาใช้เป็นเครื่องมือหากิน โดยเก็บเงินจากนักท่องเทียวแลกกับการได้ถ่ายรูปกับลูกชะนี เมื่อลูกชะนีเริ่มเติบใหญ่ขึ้นก็จะเริ่มดุร้าย เจ้าของก็จะถอนฟันออกทิ้งและมอมยาให้สลึมสลือตลอดเวลา ซึ่งการเอาชะนีมาเป็นเครื่องมือหากินกับนักท่องเที่ยวถือว่าผิดกฎหมายไทย ที่โครงการคืนชะนีสู่ป่านั้น เหล่าอาสาสมัครพยายามช่วยให้ชะนีปรับตัวแล้วจะได้ส่งคืนสู่ป่าต่างๆในภูเก็ต ระนอง และเชียงใหม่ โครงการนี้ดำเนินการอยู่ได้ด้วยเงินบริจาคล้วนๆ เพื่อเป็นค่ากรงและค่าอาหารของชะนีที่อยู่ระหว่างการรอปล่อยคืนสู่ป่า ทางโรงเรียนได้จัดให้วันศุกร์ที่ 6 เป็นวันบริจาคเงินเพื่อแลกกับการไม่ต้องแต่งเครื่องแบบนักเรียน รวบรวมเงินได้มากกว่า 16, 000 บาท และนักเรียนก็ให้คำมั่นสัญญาว่าจะไม่ถ่ายรูปกับลลูกชะนีตามท้องถนนของภูเก็ตหรือที่ไหนๆก็ตามที บางคนก็บริจาคเงินจำนวน 800 บาท เพื่อแลกกับตุ๊กตาชะนี1 ตัว นักเรียน year 3 ของเราไปทัศนศึกษาที่โครงการคืนชะนีสู่ป่า เพื่อเห็นกับตาว่าทำงานกันยังไงและยังได้บริจาคเงินเพิ่มด้วย ท่านช่วยเหลือได้โดย !

นักเรียน Year 6 ขายขนมเค้กหาเงินเข้าการกุศล โดย Daniel Redley, Year 6A teacher หลังจากประสพความสำเร็จจากการรณรงค์ขอรับของขวัญคริสมาสต์ไปบริจาคให้องค์กรการกุศล นักเรียน Year 6 ได้มีความคิดริเริ่มที่จะหาเงินให้กับมูลนิธิ Asia Center Foundation จากความคิดหลายๆอย่าง ก็ลงมติว่าจะขายขนมเค้กเพื่อหาเงินการกุศล เมื่อวันพฤหัสฯ นักเรียน Year 6 ก็นำขนมเค้กมารวมกันตั้งขายให้กับนักเรียนในระดับ key stage 2 โครงการนี้ประสพความสำเร็จอย่างมาก รวบรวมเงินได้ถึง 4,670 บาท!! นักเรียนสนุกสนานจริงๆถึงขั้นที่จะเตรียมการณ์ในโครงการต่อไป! ผมขอขอบคุณนักเรียนและเจ้าหน้าที่ทุกๆคน โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งผู้ปกครองที่ให้การสนับสนุนและช่วยเหลือบริจาค ให้โครงการนี้สำเร็จได้อย่างดีเยี่ยม !

เพื่อนช่วยสอนเพื่อนในวิชาคณิตศาสตร์ Year 7 โดย Mr Kaushal, Head of Faculty **หน่วย: เศษส่วน ทศนิยม และ เปอร์เซ็นต์ ** นักเรียน Year 7 เรียนจบเรื่องหน่วยโดยแบ่งปันความรู้ให้แก่กัน นักเรียนได้แบ่งออกเป็นกลุ่มๆละ 4 คนเพื่อออกมาสอนหน้าห้อง จากนั้นจะสุ่มเลือกมา 2 คนออกมาบรรยายงานของกลุ่ม คู่แรกคือ น้องอ้อน และลิซ่า เริ่มต้นโดยวิธีการของกลุ่ม สอนเพื่อนร่วมชั้น วิธีการแปลงเปอร์เซ็นเป็นเศษส่วน , จากเศษส่วนเป็นเปอร์เซ็นต์, และจากทศนิยมเป็นเปอร์เซ็นต์ กิจกรรมทั้งหมดนี้ เป็นการเสริมสร้างความมั่นใจ, พัฒนาความรู้ความเข้าใจให้ลึกซึ้งขึ้น นักเรียน Year 7 แสดงให้เห็นว่านักเรียนที่เรียนเก่งก็จะเป็นครูที่สอนเก่ง !

นักเรียนจากเฮดสตาร์ทได้เข้าร่วมแข่งขันรายการ Youth Talent ซึ่งจัดขึ้นโดย Royal Marina Yacht Club รวมผู้เข้าแข่งขันทั่วเกาะภูเก็ตมากกว่า 50 คน นักเรียน 2 คนจากทั้ง 8 คนที่มาจากเฮดสตาร์ททำได้ดีมากทีเดียว คนแรกคือ Eve Whittaker เป่าฟลุทประกอบท่าเต้น ชนะเลิศอันดับสองประเภทเครื่องดนตรี คนที่สองคือ Juliana Mester ชนะเลิศการร้องเพลง ด้วยพลังเสียงอันทรงพลัง

สัปดาห์แห่งการรู้หนังสือใกล้เข้ามาแล้ว! โดย Nola Russell, Librarianสัปดาห์แห่งการรู้หนังสือจะจัดขึ้นในสัปดาห์สุดท้ายของภาคเรียนที่ 2(หลังจากวันนานาชาติ) แต่ต้องมีการเปลี่ยนแปลงเพื่อที่จะใช้ห้องสมุดเป็นสนามสอบCheckpoint Exams ที่จะมีขึ้นในสัปดาห์แรกของภาคเรียนที่ 3 กิจกรรมอื่นๆที่จัดในห้องสมุด เช่น (แลกหนังสือ, เปิดตัวนักเขียน, ฯลฯ)
ดิฉันจะแนะนำกิจกรรมใหม่ในช่วงสัปดาห์แห่งการรู้หนังสือ: การอ่านเกมส์บิงโกReading Bingo. นักเรียนทุกคนควรจะได้รับกระดาษ Reading Bingo ในวันศุกร์ นี่หมายความว่านักเรียนมีเวลา 6 สัปดาห์ ที่จะอ่านหนังสือให้จบ 4 หรือ 5เล่มในประเภทที่กำหนด วิธีการ: อ่านหนังสือจบเล่มนึง, เลือกช่องตารางที่เหมาะ,เขียนชื่อหนังสือและนักประพันธ์ลงในตาราง เขียนเพียงหนึ่ง 1 ช่องตารางต่อหนังสือ 1 เล่มเท่านั้น เขียนเติมให้จบบรรทัด … ตามแนวขวาง, แนวตั้ง หรือ แนวทแยงมุม แล้วเขียนชื่อและชั้นเรียน ไว้ที่หัวกระดาษนำกระดาษแผ่นนี้มาส่งคืนที่ห้องสมุดภายในเวลา 16:00 น.ของวันอังคารที่ 31 มีนาคม 2558, ตอบคำถามเกี่ยวกับหนังสือนั้นๆแล้ว ก็จะได้มีโอกาสส่งชื่อเข้าชิงโชค คอยดูซิว่าเด็กๆจะอ่านหนังสืออะไรกันบ้างคะ!

เทศการตรุษจีนปี 2558 จะเริ่มวันที่ 19 กุมภาพันธ์ และสิ้นสุดวันที่ 5 มีนาคมนี้ คนจีนมีความเชื่อว่าการกินเกี๊ยวในช่วงปีใหม่จีนนั้นจะนำมาซึ่งความมั่งมีในปี่ที่จะมาถึง ดังนั้นในวิชาภาษาจีนของนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาเด็กๆได้ทำเกี๊ยวด้วยตัวเอง เพื่อเรียนรู้วัฒนธรรมของชาวจีน ทุกคนสนุกกับกิจกรรมนี้มากคะ

นักบาสเก็ตบอลชายระดับประถม ได้ทำการแข่งขันทั้งหมด 6 นัด ชนะ 1 แพ้ 5.
