Cambridge Assessment’s response to to the UK government’s statement on curriculum and exam reform

The UK Education Secretary, Michael Gove, made a statement this week about proposed reforms to GCSEs in the UK. He acknowledged that his original proposal for a single exam board for each subject (the EBC) was a “bridge too far” and “one reform too many”.
The proposed changes to GCSE do not affect Cambridge IGCSE. Cambridge IGCSE is the world’s most popular international qualification for 14 to 16 year olds, taken in 140 countries and designed to be taught in a linear way. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the first Cambridge IGCSE exam. It is a qualification that is tried, tested and trusted by teachers in the UK and worldwide.
We are fully committed to Cambridge IGCSE and we will continue to offer it as long as Cambridge and the schools we work with internationally find that it serves the best educational interests of young people.
