After School Programmes (ASPs)
All free ASPs (EAL classes, Boosters and clubs) as well as HeadStart teacher-run fee paid clubs (Science, ICT, Robotics, Design, Art, Dungeons & Dragons, Ukulele, Project Recycle, Twirl Stars) will finish on 2 June. The following fee paid programmes; Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, LAMDA, Chess, Tennis, Dance (gymnastics, ballet, aerial, hip hop, jazz) will continue until 24 June.

Secondary Prom
We are very excited to announce that this year we are able to host our annual Prom for all Secondary students on 10 June from 6.00-10.00 pm at the Ramada Hotel Ballroom on Chao Fah road. This year’s theme has been decided on by the Year 13 student leaders. It’s time to put in some effort as the theme is ‘Black Tie.’ Traditionally speaking, a black-tie dress code means when gentlemen are meant to wear tuxedos and women floor-length gowns. Adaptations are welcome and we look forward to everyone bringing their own style to the event.
There will be lots of food and drinks, a professional photographer and photo booth, a live DJ and games and guaranteed fun for all! The fee for the event is included in school fees. Dress Up Day for Ocean Conservation
On the 16th of June students and staff are invited to come to school dressed in the theme of the ocean up in exchange for a 50 Baht donation. In term 2 and 3 of this year, we have placed a large emphasis on raising awareness for the Oceans For All Foundation and the great job they are doing for ocean conservation.
“Our eco-friendly coastal cleaner catamaran is operating during the southwest monsoon at Royal Phuket Marina. Thanks to our first two partners who made this project possible, the InterContinental Phuket Resort and HeadStart International School. Licence to clean 002 and 003 are on their way and should be ready to operate at the end of August! Oceans For All is looking for more partners and brands to support our ‘License to Clean’ project and the building of more boats in order to clean more beaches and shorelines from floating rubbish. Term 3 Assessments for Year 7-10
Term 3 assessments for Years 7-10 will commence on Monday 30th May. Here is the timetable - note that Year 10 is on the 2nd tab.
Years 7-9 will complete online GL Progress Tests in English, Maths and Science. These will take place in computer rooms at school. First Language subjects (Thai/Mandarin/Russian) will have in-class assessments as well. Year 10 will complete exams for all of their IGCSE subjects in the secondary hall (except for art and ICT, which are practicals). Year 10 students will attend a briefing with Ms Blackweir on Thursday 26th May to outline expectations. When not completing assessments, students will attend all other lessons at school and follow their usual timetables. Please provide a supportive environment at home during this period. Swimming
Our first Swimmer Spotlight is highlighting Nae Nae and Colin. Both Academy Swimmers have amazing attitudes and work exceptionally hard during each practice. The coaches and I want everyone to get a chance to see how amazing our swimmers are and celebrate their dedication to the team. -Coach Brown
Last Friday, Jaza hosted the Aqua Panther practice for earning the most out of all the swimmers for the 12 Hour Relay! The session included Sharks & Minnows, kickboard wars, and finished out with an intense game of Water Polo. It was great seeing the teamwork together and having some non-racing competition. Basketball
Once again we were fortunate to bring the world some live basketball action from the HeadStart arena on Wednesday in a first game clash of two heavyweights in the Phuket conference. The media had a frenzy during the week with anticipation of the much awaited match up. The Panthers are now leading the series 1-0 and take their winning streak to four games straight for the year. The Panthers delivered a game for the ages and the game was only decided in the final seconds of the contest.
The Panthers grabbed the early lead first quarter but BIS responded quickly and took control until the end of the 3rd where Headtart went on a nice run thanks to the always reliable big man Judah who displayed a desire and fight to not let the game slip away by any means, putting his body on the line and displaying some great finishing touch under the basket. Pinyo was also magnificent for the Panthers. Both him and Judah carried the team when they needed it the most. Another key to the win was the energy coming off the bench. A special mention to Benji for his hard-nosed willingness to do the dirty work, who was accompanied by 6th man of the year candidate Sir Petch Barkley who brought a spark off the woodwork and ignited the crowd and his teammates going 100% from the field and supplying that missing piece to the jigsaw that the Panthers needed. I’m very proud of you Petch, keep up the hard work in training as it’s paying off! Let’s keep up the good work and continue to get better boys! -Coach Mike
Football
Awesome performance by our Panthers U11Boys football team who travelled up to UWC this week. They all put in a fantastic effort and played some great football. Good work boys -Coach Paul
Panthers Football Academy
An action packed week for the football academy, which saw many fun and challenging matches being played. Our U9s team started it off with a really good match against KIS, which saw some new players playing for the first time.
It was the U13 Girls next up as they travelled to UWC which always proves to be a entertaining game and it was great to see the girls giving 100% to limit the opponents attacks.
Headstart and KIS organised the first U11s football festival friendly tournament which involved a series of matches and penalty shoot outs between both school. The matches were played in a really fun and positive environment. Well done to both HeadStart Teams as they both reached the final.
Both of the Girls teams had matches on Saturday against a strong Na Tao Academy. Once again the girls showed that NGU attitude and the games were a great to watch. A special shout out to two girls who are helping to fill in as Goalkeeper as they did an excellent job and also to Mint who was lethal in front of goal scoring some excellent goals.
Next up Trimas Temple U13s travelled to HeadStart. The match was very much end to end and with the opposition goalkeeper making save after save they were tough to break down. Eventually we got our rhythm and with some excellent combination play we got our rewards. A really fun game to watch, well done boys!!
Finally we had the U11 Panthers Internal Futsal Cup which saw our Academy U11s selected into three teams to compete to win the trophy. Some high tempo futsal and great entry was on display as the Panthers Orange Team took the victory!
Rugby
Last weekend, Ms Niemand, Ms Myers, Mr Pompilis and coach Rothwell played in the 2022 Phuket International Rugby Tens tournament. It was a very fun and popular event with lots of support from the crowds! If anyone is interested in learning about rugby or even joining us for the next tournament, please get in touch!
Richard Lukats
Mr Richard Lukats is the Athletics Director at Headstart International School. Richard has over twenty years’ experience of working in schools both internationally and in the United Kingdom. He has been a senior school administrator (Athletics Director, Principal/Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher/Principal and Assistant Headteacher) for the past 18 years internationally and in the UK. He is a UK qualified teacher (Post Graduate of Education, PGCE) and holds the UK qualification to be a Headteacher (National Professional Qualification for Headship, NPQH). At Headstart International School, Richard is responsible for leading the overall strategic direction, operational effectiveness and administration of the school’s sports and activities programme, alongside managing the PE Department. He is passionate, about the role sport and physical activity plays in the development of young people and he is looking to further developing the already excellent programme that is on offer at Headstart. He is always looking at ways of working with all members of the Headstart Community to further enhance the opportunities for participation in physical activities for everyone.
Good Luck With Exams
We wish all of our Year 11, 12 and 13 students who are taking their IGCSE, AS and A Level exams the best of luck! Well done to those students who sat their first papers last week (IGCSE ICT Practical, A-Level and IGCSE Speaking Exams, AS Psychology). We know HeadStart students are resilient and ambitious, the perfect combination for success. Remember we are all rooting for you and we look forward to greeting you at the finish line on 10th June when all exams will end.
The week beginning 13th June will be a busy one here at HeadStart as we work with the Year 13s to prepare for the Graduation Ceremony to be held on Friday the 17th of June and their last school residential scheduled for Tuesday the 21st of June to Wednesday 22nd June. After a well earned weekend break, we look forward to welcoming our Year 11s and 12s back to school on Monday 13th June too. Year 11 students will be inducted into the Sixth Form through our Post 16 Programme (more details on this to follow) and Year 12s will embark on the Year 13 courses. The Year 11s and 12s also have their Bonding Trip to look forward to in the week of 20th June.
We have so much to look forward to after these exams. In the meantime, we wish you strength and courage. We know you can do it!
The children of Early Years Yellow have a keen interest in trains and transport, so this week they designed their own trains using cardboard boxes. Our phonics focus has been ‘m’ this week, maps were printed and the children practised their skills directing the trains. -Ms Suzi
Saturday Thai Culture Club
Once a term the Thai department organises a ‘Saturday Thai Culture Club’ for students. Parents and students are invited to attend the activities which focus on Thai culture, arts & crafts. This term Early Years, Reception and Year 1 children enjoyed learning about different kinds of fruits and what they are called in Thai. We played lots of games related to coconuts as well as learned about their many uses. Thank you to everyone who joined the Thai Culture Club for Term 3 and to all of the parents for showing support for our Thai programme. - Kru Poy and Kru Cherry
This week, Year 10 Travel and Tourism students visited Pullman Phuket Panwa Beach Resort. There they met with the CEO, Mr Delsol and took part in an interactive presentation on Customer Service and Marketing within the resort. Along with this, students were treated to a tasty breakfast and a full tour and participated in some volleyball with resort staff! A BIG thank you to the team at Pullman for hosting us and making our stay so educational and interactive! -Mr Kasim

Congratulations to our students athletes who have performed exceptionally well in competitions out of school. Tiger in Year 2 - 1st runner up in the TGA Singha Junior Golf ranking 2022-2033 on the 14-15th of May in Songkhla.
Natalie Hallermann who attended preliminary tests on 17-18 May. She is now one of the five women swimmers representing Phuket province who will compete in the Thailand National Youth Swimming Competition in August 2022.
