English and Humanities Faculty Week

As part of English and Humanities Faculty Week, we are asking all Primary and Secondary Students to come to school dressed up as a famous Historical figure on Tuesday 4th June. The purpose of the day is to raise funds for this terms charity appeal, to help those suffering in Mozambique from the terrible storms they have endured recently and where over a million people are still currently homeless. On the day there will be PRIZES for the best dressed students! Especially if they made the costume themselves!

Students must dress as a real historical figure, or at least a representation of historical genres (cavemen, princess, etc) and not a fictional character, legend or celebrity. We are, however, allowing fictional figures that are directly connected to historical events who are iconic figures, such as Rosie The Riveter. No evil dictators please! Please do take part and bring in at least 20 Baht each if you come into school dressed in an outfit. If you have any questions, please contact me at [email protected]

School Closure

We have been informed by International Schools Association of Thailand (ISAT) that The Cabinet has declared the 3rd of June a national holiday in observance of the birthday of Her Majesty the Queen of Thailand, Queen Suthida. We have also received information from the Office Private Education Commission (OPEC), Ministry of Education, that the school must be closed to pay respect and to celebrate the birthday of Her Majesty the Queen. Therefore the school will be closed on Monday 3rd June 2019.

The IGCSE and A Level exams will remain as scheduled in the timetable and students are expected to attend these exams as instructed.

House News

This week the secondary students competed against each other to earn vital points for their respective Houses. Year 7 took part in a Handball tournament where the Green Dragons dominated to take 1st place. At the same time Year 9 competed in an Ultimate Frisbee tournament where the Green Dragons continued their winning streak to also take first place. The Year 10 students took part in a basketball tournament with the result leading to a hat trick for the Green Dragons! Can anyone knock them off the top spot?

CAPA Week Favourite DJs

During CAPA week students voted for their favourite DJs. Two heats and a final took place in the dining hall during lunch. It was a tight competition but we can now announce that the winners are… The System (Ben and Buraset)! Congratulations also to Innes and Yan who placed 2nd and 3rd.

Football News

On Wednesday 22nd May HeadStart Under 13s played a friendly match against BCIS. HeadStart were superior to BCIS in all three 20 minute matches with Sean, Nicholas and Jake working particularly hard for the team.

Whilst the teams short passing, tactical flexibility and teamwork were all very good, it was their response to challenging situations that was most impressive. The players remained positive, worked hard and took responsibility at times when many factors were working against them.

This performance will provide a solid foundation for the PISAC Tournament next Wednesday.

On Saturday 18th May the Under 13s boys combined with the Under 11s boys to field two against two slightly older teams from King George IV School from Hong Kong.

The event was extremely positive bringing together the different age groups, the parents and building a relationship with another international school.

The opposition fielded one very strong (and slightly older) team and one less experienced team.

One of the matches was very evenly matches with the visitors slightly edging the contest whilst the other match resulted in a heavy victory for HeadStart.

In both games, the players applied a range of formations, adapting quickly and positively to the instructions from the coaches. HeadStart were very impressive when playing short passes and moving the ball quickly. Most pleasing was the way the teams responded to set backs on the day, working harder, encouraging each other and being positive. This was very impressive and a real improvement from the previous week.

Krit’s performance was identified by the oppositions coach as being particularly mature, a comment I fully agreed with. Sean adapted well to the challenge of not only stepping up to play for the age group two years above but also playing as a striker rather than his usual position as a goalkeeper.

(More banana cakes are very much welcome at all fixtures. Their absence was evident this weekend).

Foundation News

We have had a super week in Foundation this week. A big Thank You to all the Reception parents who turned for the Transition meeting during the week. The reception children are looking forward to stepping out into the new primary school from Thursday 6 June.

We also enjoyed a visit from the local Fire and Police teams. The children enjoyed a very exciting morning exploring the emergency vehicles and equipment, and even getting to try on some of the emergency uniforms.

Preschool Visit to Bird Park

Today the Pre-School children had a lovely trip to the Bird Park. They enjoyed looking at the big birds the most and they laughed when the little birds sat on the teachers heads. They went to see the bird show and were amazed by the parrots who could play basketball.

Foundation Stars of the Week.

Well done to the Early Years students who got ‘Student of the Month’ awards: Phoenix, Roni, Julie and Rada for working hard and making great progress. In Reception Polina, Woojin, Ari and Elean for putting 100% in everything they do. Greta job everyone. we are really proud of your efforts.

All About Pirates

Reception Blue learnt all about pirates this week. We made our own pirate ships out of recycled materials and tested them to see if they float. We also learnt all about adding and subtraction using coins and jewels from the treasure chest.

Saturday Thai Culture Club

Early Years - Year 1 students enjoyed a fun last Saturday Thai Culture of term 3. They learned about the benefits of banana, making the traditional Thai toys by using materials from banana tree.

Year 2 to 6 students had a marvelous experience learning how to make a traditional Thai dessert of green noodles in sweet coconut milk called “Lod Chong” which was lots of fun!

Year 1 Blue China Day

We had a fantastic day of learning and the children loved trying all of the delicious from so many of our wonderful, generous parents. We cannot wait for Laos week!

Laos and Denmark

This week Year 1 Blue traveled to Laos and Denmark! We had an amazing day trying meatballs, dried beef and sticky rice - Thank you Mrs Neilsen! We also made the flowers of Laos and even tried to write in Viking code.

Year 1 Yellow Traveled to Japan

We had the most incredible day today. We traveled to Japan and what an eventful time we had there, experience all things Japanese! The children learnt all about the art of origami, had a go at painting calligraphy, created a flag, played a very funny traditional Japanese game, tried on Japanese dress, learnt exciting facts and of course tried lots of delicious Japanese food - which was an absolute hit with the children and the teachers alike! We had some special parents helpers in class too which was so exciting and made the day extra informative. We loved having more visitors in class and really welcomed the help. We also had a guest visit from Miss Saki who impressed the children with her origami skills! Overall, another amazing trip and another stamp in their passports. Where to next..?

We love Thailand

As part of our new topic ‘We love Thailand’ Year 4 students learned about the history of Thailand and the meaning of colors of the National Flag.

Verbs in Thai

Year 5 students have been learning about verbs in their Thai classes. They made some posters to help them remember the concepts.

Thai First language

Year 9 Students have learnt about drug with the youth. Thee students have and made the presentations on the topics of studied about types of drugs, the effect of drug addiction, and the ways to prevent the youth from drug. These are the activities in Year 9 Thai First language class by Kru Kan.

My Favorite Sport

We are learning “My Favorite Sport” in Thai lessons. We learnt the name of sports and how to ask and answer about our favorite sports. We made presentation in pair to share our favorite sports and talk about the good or best players in he world. By Kru Gen

Vintage Sale and All Profits are Donated to Charity

As part of the English and Humanities Faculty Week, the Geography students in Year 9 are organising a fundraiser from Wednesday 5th - Friday 7th June. They are raising money for Unicef who are working to support the huge number of children in Malawi, Zimbabwe and Mozambique who have been effected by the recent cyclones.

Vintage Sale- We need your donations!

One of the events running is a Vintage Sale which will being ongoing across the 3 days on tables set up in the Atrium. We rely completely on student, parent and teacher donations here, so we are asking you to help!

What to donate…

We ran this event last year and people bought in a huge range of things- there was clothing, books, homeware and even a bicycle! Please bring anything that you don’t want anymore, but you think someone else might like!

Where do you leave your donations?

From tomorrow (Wednesday 22nd), there will be 4 different coloured boxes in the atrium where you can leave donations on your way into school. Please put donations into the box that matches your house colour and write your name on the clipboard… we will count up the names to see which house has the most donations the most and give out house points accordingly.

Please bring in whatever you can! All the money raised will go straight to Unicef to help the children effected by the cyclones get their lives back to normal. Thanks for you support!
