Important Announcements
CfBT and ONESQA Final Inspection by Jazon Edouard, School Director
As I am sure most of you are aware, we have for some time been working towards our school accreditation with CfBT. We are now at the end of the two year process and a five man team from both CfBT (Centre for British Teachers) and ONESQA (Office of National Education Standards and Quality Assessments) will be visiting our school next week for the official Final Verification Visit. The visit officially starts on Monday the 19th and the team is scheduled to leave Phuket on Saturday the 24th.
This accreditation is an exciting and important step in our school’s development and one which plays an important part in your children’s education. Our team has worked hard over the last two years to ensure that we are well prepared and that every aspect of our school’s standards meet the accreditation requirements. Hence, we are confident that we are now ready for this final step in the accreditation process.
As part of the visit, the team from CfBT will be spending time meeting and speaking with not only teachers, staff and management but will also want to meet with you as parents as well as with many of our students. I would like to ask that you please help us to make the members of the accreditation team feel welcome during their visit and I would also like to encourage you to take the time to speak with them should the opportunity arise.

Music and Arts Celebration Day 2014 *by Miki Edouard *We are pleased to announce the all school event that rocked Phuket last year! You won’t want to miss HeadStart’s production of ‘Around the World in 120 Minutes’ that will take place on the 28th of June at the Simon Star auditorium in Phuket town. In addition to the Foundation and Primary’s on-stage presentation, this year’s Music and Arts Celebration will also feature an exciting display of ‘Living Art’ from the Secondary department from 12:00-1:00 pm. Secondary students will be integrally involved in the production of the show, the ticket sales and food service.
Tickets can be purchased for 300 Baht per adult at the downstairs accounting office starting on the 3oth of May until the day of the show when you can pay at the entrance. HeadStart students will not be charged. All members of the community are welcome to watch the performances and enjoy the celebration!
Please support this event by paying 300 Baht towards your child’s costume and production (Foundation and Primary only). This money can be paid directly to the Homeroom teacher.

Music and Arts Celebration Sponsorship *by Miki Edouard *With the students feverishly preparing for their performances and exhibitions for the Music and Arts Celebrations Day I would like to appeal for sponsorship to cover the cost of the ‘Live Art’ exhibition that the Secondary students are preparing. The total cost of this exhibition will be approximately 20,000 Baht.

Undergoing my first school inspection many years ago, I remember quoting from the poem If by Rudyard Kipling to help bolster my colleagues’ spirits before the inspection began.
As we contemplate the arrival of CfBT in the coming week, the poem is, once again, applicable. The poem was written in the days before political correctness crept in to everything we do. However, the following lines are, I think, particularly resonant:

Year 1 Learn about Plants *by Laura Baillie, Year 1B Teacher *Year 1B have had fun learning all about plants! In these photographs we were planting seeds and watching them grow. We were also going on a nature walk collecting samples of plants that had fallen naturally to the ground to add to our ‘plant palettes’.
Sound Test *by Julie Cousineau, Year 2B Teacher *This term, Year 2B has been studying our 5 senses, especially hearing. This week, students prepared and conducted an experiment on sounds. They chose objects to make noise with and listen to close up, a short way off, a long way off, and far away. They wrote down predictions and thought about fair testing. They tested the sounds and wrote their results. They were able to say whether their predictions were right or not. Good scientific skills, Year 2B!
Circuits and Conductors in Y4B *by Ashley Bross, Year 4B Teacher *Year 4B has been learning about circuits and conductors. Students completed an experiment in which they needed to create their own switch using only paper clips, fasteners and butterfly clips. If successful, their switch completed a circuit and turned on a lightbulb.
Year 6A Human Body *by Kate Dietrich, Year 6A Teacher *As part of a review and extension unit on the human body, students ‘built’ a life-size human, studying and creating each organ at a time. They learnt the importance, size and placement of each organ within each body systems. Here are the students’ finished products.
The Good Shepherd Fundraiser *by Julie Cousineau, Year 2B teacher *We are halfway through our fundraiser for The Good Shepherd and I am very touched by the generosity of HeadStart families and teachers. I have started going through the donations and I am proud to see how many of us have already come together to help out those less fortunate.
The purpose for giving merits to the highest giving house was to encourage generosity amongst our students. Unfortunately, it has come to our attention that some children have been continuously switching donations between bags in order to benefit their own house. This is completely against the spirit of this fundraiser and puts a dark turn on what should have been a positive activity.
Therefore, we have decided to cancel the merit award. Everyone who has donated should be proud of the help they have given to Burmese families from Phuket. If you haven’t had the chance to donate yet, we are still collecting second-hand clothes, toys, books, household objects or even pharmacy items and food until May 30th. We have now divided the donations in categories rather than houses which will greatly help the sorting out process.
Once again, thank you for your generosity, and keep it going!
Secondary News
ICT Roll of Honour *by James Barker, ICT Teacher *The following students displayed excellent effort and improvement in ICT across the spring term and have now been displayed on the wall outside ICT 1. A very pleasing term in ICT from several students but these students shone brightest. A Big well done.
University Presentation from Abu Dhabi *by Mark Goodman, Head of Secondary *On 14th May, Year 10 students from HeadStart listened to a presentation given by New York University (Abu Dhabi Campus) which gave them valuable information about the changing landscape of tertiary education.
More and more Western universities are now opening facilities in the Middle and Far East which of course makes it easier for Phuket based families to send their children to a top-quality university that is in a similar time zone.
Thai Department News
Ror Dor Training Course *by Khru Nee, Thai Principal *On 15 May 2014, we had a meeting with Thai parents and students from Year 10 who are interested in joining the Ror Dor course. Under Thai law, male citizens under the age of 21 may be obliged to do Military service. The parents and students were given a presentation about the implications of the regulations. We also introduced our new trainers, Kru Chai and Kru Ar-tit. Eligible students will be able to register at Chalermprakiet school on the 20th May 2014 followed by a physical test on 24th May at Sapan Hin. Eligible HeadStart students will be able to attend a Ror Dor training course in Phuket on July 6, 2014.

Props and Costumes Needed! *By Jody Leow, Art teacher *Some of the Secondary students are going to be turned into living statues for the Music and Arts Celebration Day on the 28th of June, 2014. We would like to request that if anyone has: hats, bow ties, normal ties, old office style shoes, waistcoats, capes, old umbrellas, walking sticks or anything like this that we can use for the event, please bring them to the Art room. They will be sprayed gold or silver so you won’t want them back! Thank you for your support of this event!

CfBT and ONESQA มาเยี่ยมชม
ทุกท่านคงทราบว่าสำนักงานตรวจมาตรฐานโรงเรียนที่เรียกว่า CFBT จากประเทศอังกฤษและ หน่วยงานในประเทศไทยที่เรียกว่า ONESQA (สมศ.)จะมาตรวจและเยี่ยมชมโรงเรียนเพื่อดูการทำงานและตรวจมาตรฐานของโรงเรียนในวัน จันทร์ ที่ 19-24 พฤษภาคม 2557 ในการเยี่ยมชมของ 2 หน่วยงานในครั้งนี้ถือเป็นอีกก้าวที่สำคัญของโรงเรียนที่จะเป็นภาพสะท้อนให้เห็นถึงพัฒนาการของโรงเรียนและสิ่งที่เราทุ่มเทสร้างสรรค์งานเพื่อการศึกษาของเหล่าบุตรหลานของท่าน และเราหวังว่าทุกสิ่งที่เราได้เตรียมพร้อมเอาไว้นั้นคงเป็นสิ่งที่ทางหน่วยงานกำลังมองหาอยู่ซึ่งเราก็แน่ใจเป็นอย่างยิ่งว่าตอนนี้โรงเรียนเราพรัอมแล้วที่ก้าวผ่านขั้นตอนสุดท้ายนี้อย่างเต็มภาคภูมิ

งานดนตรีและศิลปะของโรงเรียนประจำปี 2014
ทางโรงเรียนรู้สึกยินดีมากที่ได้จัดงานโรงเรียนประจำปีก่อนปิดภาคเรียนที่สร้างความสนุกสนาน และความบันเทิงตลอด 120 นาที และในปีนี้ทางโรงเรียนจะจัดขึ้นใน วันที่ 28 มิถุนายน 2557 ที่ โรงละคร The Simon Star หลังมหาลับราชภัฏภูเก็ต ในปีนี้เราจะมีการแสดงของนักเรียนในระดับอนุบาลและระดับประถม จากนั้นก็เป็นการแสดงดนตรีของและมีการจัดนิทรรศการทางศิลปะซึ่งเป็นผลงานของนักเรียนระดับมัธยมศึกษาที่ได้จัดทำขึ้นมา ซึ่งนิทรรศการนี้จะจัดขึ้นในระหว่าง เที่ยงถึง บ่ายโมง โดยทางนักเรียนระดับมัธยมของเราจะเข้าประจำร่วมงานเพื่อจัดจำหน่ายอาหารและเครื่องดื่มตลอดทั้งขายตั๋วในงาน ท่านผู้สนใจสามารถซื้อบัตรเข้าร่วมงานได้ล่วงหน้า โดยติดต่อที่ สำนักงานบัญชีด้านล่างได้ตั้งแต่วันที่ 30 พฤษภาคม 2557 เป็นต้นไปจนถึงวันงาน หากวันงานท่านสามารถซื้อตั๋วได้ที่หน้างาน โดยค่าตั๋วราคา 300 บาทต่อท่าน สำหรับเด็กนักเรียนเฮดสตาร์ท ที่ประสงค์จะเข้าชมการแสดง สามารเช้าชมได้ฟรี

สนุกสนานพักผ่อนกันที่ FUNSTART มันเป็นวันที่ฝนตกหนักมากกิจกรรมว่ายน้ำของเราต้องยกเลิกแบบไม่มีเงื่อนไข แต่ไม่เป็นไรเพราะที่ฟันสตาร์ท เรามีกิจกรรมอื่นๆ ที่น่าสนใจให้เด็กๆ ของเรามากมาย
งานศิลปะของเหล่าศิลปินตัวน้อย ข่าวสารจากแผนกประถมศึกษา
นักเรียน Y1เรียนเรื่องพืช* *นักเรียนY1B ได้รับความสนุกมากมายสำหรับการเรียนเกี่ยวกับเรื่องพืช เกี่ยวกับการปลูกต้นไม้และนี่เป็นภาพที่ยืนยันให้เห็นว่า นักเรียนมีความสุขแค่ไหนกับการเฝ้าดูต้นไม้ที่เค้าได้ปลูก
การทดลองเรื่องเสียงของนักเรียนชั้น Year 2 B นี่เป็นภาพของนักเรียนในชั้น Y2B ที่ได้เรียนเรื่องประสาทสัมผัสทั้ง 5 โดยเฉพาะเรื่องการฟัง ในอาทิตย์นี้นักเรียนได้เตรียมเรียนรู้เรื่องการติดต่อและการทำงานของเสียงเด็กได้นำอุปกรณ์ทำให้เกิดเสียงพร้อมกับฟังเสียงที่เกิดขึ้นในระยะทางต่างๆกัน และบันทึกสิ่งที่เกิดขึ้นและเด็กก็สามารถบอกได้ว่าที่เกิดขึ้นเพราะอะไร เป็นทักษะที่น่าชื่นชมมาก
การตัดต่อวงจรไฟฟ้ากับนักเรียน Y4B
ในชั่งโมงนี้นักเรียนได้เรียนรู้เรื่องวงจรไฟฟ้าโดยการใช้คลิปหนีบกระดาษในการต่อวงจรและทำให้หลอดไฟติด
Y6A เรียนรู้เรื่องเกี่ยวกับร่างกายของมนุษย์
นี่เป็นการเรียนรู้ในเรื่องส่วนต่างๆ ของร่างกายที่นักเรียนได้สร้างส่วนของร่างกายมนุษย์ขึ้นมาเพื่อการเรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับอวัยวะต่างๆตลอดทั้งการทำงานของระบบนั้นๆและนี่เป็นผลงานที่เสร็จสิ้นแล้ว

ตอนนี้ทางโรงเรียนได้ดำเนินการในการรวบรวมสิ่งของสำหรับการบริจาคๆเพื่อที่จะนำไปบริจาคที่ The Good Shepherd และในกิจกรรมครั้งนี้โรงเรียนได้จัดกิจกรรมการให้คะแนนคุณความดีสำหรับบ้านที่นำของมาบริจาคมากเพื่อเป็นการช่วยกระตุ้นให้เด็กเกิดความรู้สึกทีดีต่อกิจกรรม แต่ผลที่ออกมาคือมีนักเรียนบางกลุ่มทำการสับเปลี่ยนถุงของบริจาคเพื่อหวังผลให้บ้านของตัวเองได้รับคะแนนสูง ซึงการกระทำเช่นนี้ไม่ได้เป็นไปตามวัตถุประสงค์ของผู้จัดทำการบริจาคในครั้งนี้ ดังนั้นทางโรงเรียนจึงขอแจ้งให้ทราบว่า ทางโรงเรียนขอยกเลิกการให้รางวัลคุณความดีสำหรับนักเรียนที่นำของมาบริจาคเพื่อ และทางโรงเรียนยังคงรับบริจาคสิ่งของต่อไปจนถึงสิ้นเดือนนี้ ในโอกาสนี้ทางโรงเรียนขอขอบคุณทุกท่านที่ได้ร่วมบริจาคสิ่งของเพื่อเด็กชาวพม่า

การแนะนำการเรียนต่อในระดับมหาวิทยาลัยจากAbu Dhabi
ในวันที่ 14 พฤษภาคม 2557 ทางมหาวิทยาลัยจากNew York University ได้ให้เกียรติในการมาให้ความรู้และแนะแนวการศึกษาต่อ ในปัจจุบันนี้มีมหาวิทยาลัยในแถบตะวันตกเกิดขึ้นมากมายรวมทั้งในแถบตอนกลางและตะวันออกไกลซึ่งก็ถือว่าไม่ไกลจากภูเก็ตถ้าหากว่าเราจะส่งบุตรหลานไปเรียนในแถบใกล้เคียง
ข่าวจากแผนกภาษาและวัฒนธรรมไทย
การฝึกอบรมนักศึกษารักษาดินแดน* *วันที่ 15 พฤษภาคม ที่ผ่านมาทางโรงเรียนได้จัดให้มีการอบรมเพื่อให้ความรู้กับผู้ปกครองนักเรียนในระดับชั้น Y10 ที่สนใจให้บุตรหลานเข้าร่วมการฝึกอบรมนักศึกษารักษาดินแดน ตามกฏหมายไทยที่ได้ระบุว่า ชายไทยทุกคนที่อายุครบ 21 ปีบริบรูณ์จะต้องเข้ารับคัดเลือกการเป็นทหาร ในการอบรมครั้งนี้นักเรียนและผู้ปกครองได้รับชมภาพการนำเสนอเกี่ยวกับการสมัครและการแนะนำครูผู้ฝึก คือ ครูชัย และครูอาทิตย์ โดยสถานที่ฝึกอบรมเราจะไปฝึกที่โรงเรียน เฉลิมพระเกียรติ์ ในวันที่ 20 พฤษภาคม 2557 และมีการฝึกภาคสนามในวันที่ 24 พฤษภาคม 2557 ที่สะพานหิน ส่วนวันฝึกอบรมของเด็กนักเรียนเฮดสตาร์ท นั้นเป็นวันที่ 6 กรกฎาคม 2557

เมื่อวันที่ 28 เมษายน ที่ผ่านมาคุณครูไทยได้นำนักเรียนชั้น Y9 เรียนภาษาไทยในหัวข้อเรื่อง ศาลพระภูมิ ซึ่งเป็นการเรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับประวัติศาสตร์ความเป็นมาของศาลพระภูมิที่อยู่คู่กับวัฒนธรรมไทยที่คนไทยที่นับถือศาสนาพุทธให้การเคารพนับถือ นักเรียนได้เรียนในห้องจากนั้นคุณครูได้พานักเรียนไปดูศาลพระภูมิที่หน้าโรงเรียน จากการเรียนเรื่องนี้ทำให้นักเรียนที่เป็นชาวต่างชาติได้เข้าใจวิถีการดำรงชีวิตของคนไทยที่มีความเกี่ยวพันธ์กับคำสอนของพระพุทธศาสนาได้เป็นอย่างดี
อุปกรณ์การจัดฉากและเครื่องแต่งกายที่ต้องการ นักเรียนในระดับมัธยมศึกษาได้เริ่มที่จะจัดการเตรียมการสำหรับงานวันดนตรีและศิลปะของโรงเรียนที่จะมีขึ้นในวันที่ 28 มิถุนายน 2014 และทางนักเรียนยังต้องการรายการสิ่งของดังต่อไปนี่เพื่อที่ จะใช้ในการประกอบกิจกรรมในครั้งนี้ หมวก โบว์ เน็คไทค์ รองเท้าทำงานเก่า เข็มขัด หมวกแค็ป ร่มเก่า ไม้เท้า หรือว่าสิ่งอื่นๆที่นักเรียนคิดว่าจะสามารถนำมาใช้ในงานครั้งนี้ได้ ให้รวบรวมมาไว้ที่ห้องศิลปะ จากนั้นเราจำทำการพ่นสีเงินกับสีทอง ปล. นำมาแล้วไม่ให้เอาคืนนะ ขอขอบคุณสำหรับ ข่าวสารรอบเกาะภูเก็ต
การแข่งขันกอล์ฟรุ่นเยาวชน
ขอเชิญท่านผู้สนใจเข้าร่วมการแข่งขัน Thailand International school golf tour ในระดับเยาวชนปีนี้เป็นปีแรกที่เราได้จัดขึ้นที่ ภูเก็ต ถือได้ว่านี้เป็นโอกาสดีที่จะให้เด็กๆ ได้รับประสบการณ์ใหม่ๆกับกิจกรรมครั้งนี้
อบรมการถ่ายภาพฟรี
ทาง The Phuket Shutter Club ได้จัดการอบรมการถ่ายภาพให้กับนักเรียนในโรงเรียนที่สนใจฟรี ในวันเสาร์ ที่ 17 พฤษภาคม 2557 ท่านที่สนใจสามารถมาลงชื่อได้ที่ห้องธุรการ
