| Summer Camp |
We are happy to announce that an action packed summer programme for students in Years 1-9 will be on offer at HeadStart from the 6-24th of July. In light of recent events, we have reduced the price significantly in order to make it accessible to our community. Participants will be charged a flat rate of 5,000 THB per week, inclusive of lunch and activities. The day will consist of a half-day of multi-sports as well as a second block of options you can choose from that include Dance & Drama, Art & Activities, or English & EAL.

With Phuket starting to open up again, it would be an opportune time for our community to get together and help each other get back on our feet.
There are many ways in which we can accomplish this but as a start, we want to announce that as a school we are committed to purchasing school items from parent’s businesses provided the quality and price of the item or service can match or improve on what we receive from current suppliers and we want to encourage you to do the same!
We have now created a tab on the HeadStart website called ‘Community Promotions’ The page will display small banners showing the name and logo of businesses belonging to members of our community. The banners will link to your company business website or Facebook page and will feature any discounts or promotions that you have on offer.

| 2020 Sports Awards |
On Monday, 22nd June the PE department, in association with the Academy Coaches, will be hosting the annual HeadStart end of year sports awards. This year it will be an online event and we will celebrate all the team’s sporting achievements and endeavours during the academic year 2019-20. The awards that will be given are for, ‘most improved player; ‘most enthusiastic player’; and ‘player of the year’ and will be awarded to the coach-selected players in the Football and Swimming academies, as well as the Volleyball and Basketball teams, and also for the Tennis programme.
The invitations are for the players, parents, and coaches only, but the online presentation will be recorded and later uploaded to the HeadStart Facebook page, so you will all be able to see the winners. We look forward to welcoming all the invited athletes and their parents to join us on the day (invitations have been sent already). -Mr Nick Carter, Athletics Director

Jiraya Prieur
"Hi! I'm Jiraya Prieur and I'm a student at Les Roches in Marabella, Spain. I'm pursuing my studies in Hospitality Management and I'm currently in BBA 2, which is a 3 and a half year internship course. Studying abroad has been challenging for me but it has come with many amazing opportunities. I've been able to connect and work alongside students from all over the world, making every day an exciting new experience. Sadly, due to the coronavirus pandemic, I have been unable to complete my internship at the Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort & Spa because they were forced to shut down. However, despite being unable to gain practical knowledge on working in hotels at this point in time, Les Roches has set up online classes to continue our lectures even in this time of crisis."

HeadStart Alumni post featuring Laurent Edouard (Lolo) studying in the Netherlands "After graduating from HeadStart I wasn’t nervous about what was to come as I was looking forward to moving to a new country in order to take the next steps towards my dream of studying Agriculture at HAS University. After living in the Netherlands for the past year, I still can’t decide whether I should have been nervous or not. Things have been tough but I enjoy the challenges that pop up every day as they only help me learn more. Life in the Netherlands is nice and the country is very accommodating to students. There are lots of places to visit as we are within short train-rides from many neighbouring countries. The amount of students in the country lends to many events which are great because it’s easy to get bored in a small city, like the one I am residing in. Hopefully the coronavirus pandemic will not have an impact on me being able to exchange from the course that I have been on this year in International Food and Agribusiness to Horticulture and Business Management at the university that I am currently studying at. I hope everyone is doing well and that the HeadStart community will be able to achieve what they want to despite the pandemic."

"I can't believe that it's already been a year since I moved to Amsterdam! I miss Phuket every single day, especially on the cold days! It's been fun living on my own and exploring a new culture as well as the true meaning of independence. Sometimes it can be overwhelming but that is part of the process! I moved here to study PPLE (Politics, Psychology, Law and Economics). However due to a slight setback, I ended up studying International Business this year but am scheduled to start PPLE soon. This setback helped me realise that things really do happen for a reason as I ended up in the same class as Tobi, another former HeadStart student, and I have met an amazing group of friends, so, trust the process! "Hello. My name is Lisa. I graduated with the wonderful HeadStart class of 2019. I am currently studying Biological Sciences at UCL in London and would like to share with you the thoughts and lessons that I have learned. In just 6 months time, I have experienced the steepest learning curve. Before this point, I didn't really know what people meant when they said that going to university was a turning point in their lives, but now I am beginning to understand. Yes, I have learned more about Biology through attending lectures, laboratory sessions and other practical work, however, I have learned so much from the people that I have been surrounded by. My new friends, colleagues, fellow students and professors are all from such diverse backgrounds and are so caring. They care about current issues even though it might not be the area that they specialise in. They know how to appreciate the importance of diversity, acceptance and collaboration regardless of their degree, nationality and backgrounds. Compared to their mindsets, I have realised that I am quite a careless person. The world we live in right now places so much emphasis on achievements so much so that it blinds people to the hidden jewels and joys of other aspects of life that are just as important as tangible success. I did what I thought I had to do as a student with the guidelines provided but I was not sure about what really mattered and quite frankly, I didn't really care! I can't really point out one thing that matters more than the others as I am still an amateur homo sapien, however, one of the things that I have realised is that I haven't appreciated the significance of human interactions, of verbal communication in shaping an individual's soul. In short, I have had many small but valuable experiences while studying at UCL that have made me realise that I am only a small frog living in a small pond. To be fair, my parents have told me this all along but it is different when you actually experience it. I am committed to continue my learning journey and learning more from my interactions with the people I have and will meet. I will never stop investigating how I can be a better contributor to society and all living organisms on earth and maybe beyond!"
