Staff Party 2016

On the 10th of June we celebrated our end of year Staff Party at the Metropole Hotel. Approximately 170 Staff, teachers and management enjoyed a meal along with performances from the different departments, games and prizes organised by our HR team. We recognised members of staff that have been working at HeadStart for over 5 years, those who will be leaving us at the end of the year as well as outstanding efforts in the departments. Congratulations to the Admin team who won a cash reward for best performance! Their show was so humourous that they have been invited to perform for the students at the last morning assembly of the year.

We wish to express our heartfelt appreciation to all of the parents who donated such fantastic prizes for the event. Calling them out was definitely a highlight at our Staff Party.

History Bee and Bowl

Last weekend, the HeadStart History VAP Club took part in the annual History Bee and Bowl Championships at the JW Marriott in Khao Lak. The History Bee and Bowl are two history quiz competitions which are held around the world. This year 28 international schools from Thailand, China, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Vietnam, Korea, Nepal and Singapore all took part in the Asian Championships. This is the first time HeadStart took part in this competition and we’re proud to announce that Albert in Year 10 made it to the individual ‘Bee’ semi finals and was only one point away from the final! Our Junior Varsity team also did well, reaching the quarter finals, and two Middle School teams also held their own. The competition was fierce to say the least but we made our mark. Well done to all involved and bring on next year! By Richard Cramp

Happy Birthday Mr Cramp!

This week Mr Cramp celebrated his birthday with a surprise break time party from Year 7. Mr Cramp returned to his room during break time, where the students were all hiding with the lights out. They shouted “Surprise!” as they sprung out of their hiding places. Nutcha Phaisamran presented Mr Cramp with some beautiful home baked and decorated cakes that she had made for him especially. Football News

Under 11 Draw 2-2 With BISP

In what was an excellent game of football our Under 11’s drew 2-2 with BISP last weekend. Both teams showed their quality with some excellent inter-passing and movement of the ball in attack and some well organised and tactical defence. Two fantastic goals from Keen with brilliant narrow angled shots looked to be enough for HeadStart to take the game, but BISP came back twice with two equally well created goals to claim a 2-2 draw.

Basketball News

Senior Boys Close Game against BISP (20 v HS- 12)

In what was a close game particularly in the final quarter, our boys just missed out to BISP last Friday. The boys started slowly by got better and better as the game continued and convincingly won the final quarter. It was not enough though to beat an experienced BISP team this time. Nevertheless well done to all the boys who played!

Thanyapura PISAC Swimming League News

By Charles Pike, Head Swim Coach

HeadStart Aquapanthers finished their season with a very strong finish in the Thanyapura PISAC swimming league. The Thanyapura meet was the final meet of four swim competitions that make up the Open swim league. The points from all four swim competitions are combined to determine team awards as well as individual high point winners. Despite missing the first of four competitions, HeadStart was able to win a third place trophy! HeadStart finished second among all Phuket teams behind Thanyapura, and ahead of BIS.

Only swimming in 75% of the competitions meant doing some catching up, and 6 of our swimmers managed to score top 3 high point awards!

Those swimmers were:

Innes Alaxander 3rd place high point 11-12 boys Shane Walters 2nd place high point 11-12 boys Qistina Elyssa 3rd place high point 11-12 girls Emmie Parsons 3rd place high point 13-14 girls Reiley Pike 2nd place high point 13-14 girls (only swam in 2 of the 4 meets!!) Vova Vladimirov 3rd place high point 13-14 boys.

In the final leg of the swim competition the Aquapanthers showed they are the premier age group team on the island. Here are some of the outstanding individual performances. What a great finish to an Amazing season!
