‘Stay and Play’ Programme

Reception had a lovely Teddy Bears Picnic with their parents and teddies this morning. Our new theme is toys and we all brought our favourite teddy to share lunch with. We are also learning about being kind to our friends and sharing, and the picnic was a lovely way to tie into this. Thanks to all the parents for coming and bringing yummy snacks. The children had a wonderful time.

Christmas Activity Morning

Learning about Underwater Sea Creatures

Reception students were doing lots of fun learning all about underwater sea creatures. They loved Messy Monday and experimenting with water play as well as fishing for numbers, bubble wrap painting and seaweed slime. We have learnt about whales and read a story called ‘The fish who could wish’. In Maths we have been practising subtraction using practical resources such as fish in the fish bowl! The children are growing and learning every day and it is so lovely to see their enthusiasm and positive attitudes. We really enjoyed making edible starfish sandwiches (and eating them!) as well as making colourful jellyfish to decorate the classroom.

Hospital Role Play

Reception children enjoyed using our ‘Hospital’ role play area to develop their narrative play and get into character as the doctors, nurses and patients!

Preschool Learning to Swim

Learning to swim with lots of individual help in Preschool and from this they can develop into good swimmers in the future.

Water Play

When the weather is hot Early Years will cool down with some water play. It’s a great opportunity to learn through our play. We fish for fish and octopus, experiment with capacities of containers and movement of water, and we even wash each others hair!

Preschool Visits Bird Park

Preschool had a lovely time at the Bird Park. They got very excited seeing the huge birds such as the hornbill and the eagle. They enjoyed looking at the crocodiles sunbathing and stroking the goats. The children spent some time feeding the little colourful birds and watching them sit on the teachers hands. We ended our trip with a wonderful bird show!

P.E. Lessons

Reception are improving their catching and throwing in P.E. lessons. It is important for you and your child play ball games at home, this will be fun but also improve their hand-eye coordination.

Year 13 Visits Reception Students

Three Year 13 English Language students paired up with three students at the other end of the spectrum in Reception Yellow. The Year 13s are currently studying a module in Child Language Acquisition, learning how babies and children come to pick up the grammatical structures of the English language. Needless to say, they wish it was fairy tales and not A-Level exams waiting for them in May of this year.

Themed Learning Activities

In Reception we used cotton wool to grow our own beans and put them into plastic bags on the window so we can watch them grown in the bags like a greenhouse effect. We have been observing them all week and noticing the changes. We can write sentences about what we see and use full sentences to describe the changes. Because of how the beanstalk grows, we have been doing measurement as well. We measured the beanstalk using Jack and the Giant’s footprints and counting to 20. Did you know that Jack used more footprints to climb because his were smaller? We learnt that! We also traced around our feet and used beans to measure how long our feet are.

Visit to the Botanic Garden

The Early Years students visited the Phuket Botanic Garden as our learning topic was ‘In the Garden’. We loved exploring lots of different types of gardens. We looked at beautiful flowers, found huge leaves, watched the fish in the lake and were very careful around the cacti! The children’s favourite part was walking behind the big waterfall!

Holi Festival

Reception classes celebrated Holi, the Hindu festival of colour. We’ve been learning about all the exciting festivals in the world as part of our Religious Education lessons. Thank you so much to the parents for sending in messy clothes for the children to join in, we all had a crazily colourful time!

Reception Graduation to Primary

Super Heroes

Reception classes have had a super smashing time studying Super Hero’s topic. To celebrate the end of our topic we dressed as Super Heros for the day, and used our super powers for good within the playground.

Hospital Visit

Reception classes visited Phuket International Hospital to see what the Doctors and nurses do there. We learnt about X-rays, the emergency room, the dentist, and got to try out some of the equipment in the rehabilitation center.
