Foundation
Welcome to HeadStart Foundation school where children aged 2 to 5 years learn, develop and thrive.
Early Childhood theorists and pioneers have been researching how young children learn and develop since the early 1800’s. It cannot be denied that the foundations we lay in the first years of life are significant in life long achievement and inspiring a love for learning. Children are born ready, able and eager to learn. They actively reach out to interact with other people and the world around them. However, development is not an automatic process, it depends on each unique child having opportunities to interact in positive relationships and enabling environments.
Through the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) we provide children with an environment that is designed to support the development of children in a way that we recognise as being the most effective tool; play. Our dedicated Foundation teaching team provides endless opportunities for children to play, experience, explore and learn whilst developing intellectually, creatively, physically, socially and emotionally.
Within a nurturing and stimulating environment, children have the opportunity to develop and maintain interests that can be extended through open ended activities. Understanding that in the foundation years children learn and develop at varying rates, teachers develop relationships with children on an individual level in order to plan activities that are inclusive. They aim to build on the skills and knowledge that children possess.
We are confident that every child at HeadStart will have a positive experience that will inspire a love for learning.
‘Small class numbers, high staffing levels and positive relationships ensure children in the early years are individually known and supported well. As a result, they make rapid progress in their social, emotional and personal development. Children made good progress with their physical development through specialist PE lessons and play. They confidently and safely show good control and coordination.’ Education Development Trust (EDT) Accreditation Report, June 2017
