Hello, my name is Fiona Scott and I am very pleased to be joining HeadStart for another year. I am very much looking forward to a fun and exciting year ahead and working with a hard working school community who have high expectations and who are committed to the highest standards of teaching and learning. Since graduating from the University of Edinburgh in 2002, I have taught in a number of Primary schools across Scotland, England and Thailand. During my teaching career, I have taught all year groups in Key stage 1 and 2 as well as teaching across the Early Years. I have held a number of leadership roles, from subject coordinator to Head of Primary in a developing school in Bangkok. I believe that education encompasses developing the whole child; academically, socially and emotionally. Teaching should be fun and interesting as well as motivating and challenging; where all children can develop and thrive. As teachers, we need to ensure that all learning experiences are enriching and rewarding which promotes a lifelong love for learning. Through a creative curriculum approach; a happy and confident child, is a successful one. Since first moving to Thailand in 2006, my family and I are no strangers to the Thai culture and way of life. Both of my children were born in Thailand and are both very happy at HeadStart. They enjoy the range of learning experiences on offer and thrive in the After School Programmes on offer. As a family we all enjoy a range of activities from cycling to swimming to exploring and traveling around such a beautiful and diverse country. This year I will be based in Foundation and am looking forward to getting to know all the new families and supporting the children in their learning journey through HeadStart and beyond.

Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfil their potential. At HeadStart we provide a stimulating education, in secure and caring surroundings for children from 18 months to five years. Our aim is to give children the very best possible start to their learning journey, provide a firm foundation on which their future education can be built and inspire a true love of learning.

Learning at HeadStart is fun, exciting and inviting and within our Foundation department we provide a safe and nurturing environment for children to learn, play, explore, imagine and take on challenges.

We consider learning through play to be an important teaching and learning tool in both the Foundation Stage and in Key Stage 1. We believe through play children develop intellectually, linguistically, creatively, physically, socially and emotionally. Therefore, opportunities for indoor and outdoor play are central to practice in the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1.

At HeadStart we offer a broad curriculum linked through topics to provide opportunities for the children to extend experiences and further their learning and knowledge. Languages, Music and Sport are key parts of the experience with PE, Music and Thai being taught by specialist teachers. Above all, in every area we encourage independence, enquiring minds, imagination, creativity, self-confidence and communication. We treat every child as an individual and believe that happy children are learning children.

We base our curriculum on the UK Early Years Foundation Stage but we believe in a flexible approach adapting the curriculum to meet the needs of our individual and international children.

The EYFS works within four key principles

  • A Unique Child
  • Positive Relationships
  • Enabling Environments
  • Learning and Development

With these four principles in mind, the curriculum features seven areas of learning and development:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development

These three prime areas run along side four specific areas of learning:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Expressive Arts and Design
  • Understanding of the World

As a result, they make rapid progress in their social, emotional and personal development. Children made good progress with their physical development through specialist PE lessons and play.
