My name is Giovanni Guarino. I am from the island of Jersey in the English channel. I graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a BSc (Hons) in Biology (Molecular) in 2014. I then moved to the University of Bristol to complete my PGCE in secondary Biology teaching. After teaching in Bristol for a year I moved up to Leeds and worked at a large academy trust for 4 years. Whilst working in Leeds I was able to run a number of extra-curricular clubs for high achieving students from disadvantaged backgrounds to inspire them to apply to university and study STEM subjects. HeadStart is my first job working outside of the UK and I am excited to see what opportunities arise from my posting. Outside of school I love anything and everything outdoors. Growing up on an island I love the sea. I am really looking forward to getting back into surfing while in Phuket and completing PADI dive qualifications. In Leeds I also got involved in a local running club that led me to complete many half marathons and the Manchester marathon in 2021. I have also represented Jersey at the Youth Commonwealth Games, Olympic trials and multiple national championships in swimming. This, coupled with running, saw me compete in several olympic distance triathlons over the past 3 years. I am very excited to be living in Phuket and look forward to exploring this side of the world.
