Hello everyone! My name is Kelly Smith and I am the Homeroom Teacher for Year 3 Blue. I am a new teacher at HeadStart this year and I am very excited to be joining such an inspiring school and fantastic team. I am from Scotland, United Kingdom and I originally studied Law with French at University. After completing my first degree, I decided to follow my dream of travelling and working abroad. I studied my TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) qualification and lived in Thailand and Vietnam for almost 3 years teaching English. During this time, I fell in love with Thailand and the culture, people and food! During these 3 years, I was also lucky enough to do lots of travelling and visited countries such as Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, India and Nepal. Teaching English ignited my passion for teaching and working with children so I decided to return home to achieve my Post-Graduate Diploma in Education. I taught in the UK for 3 years, teaching a variety of ages and stages. I pride myself on the relationships I build with my learners and believe that positive relationships are the key to successful learning and inspiring children to achieve their best. I love to make learning engaging and fun, inspiring a love of learning for all. I like to encourage children to engage with each other by including group activities and active learning opportunities in lessons. I want to nurture all of my learners’ individual talents and showcase their unique personalities. During my free time, I love to read books, exercise and go on long walks with my dog. I also love to spend my weekends exploring the island and I cannot wait to do more snorkelling and swimming whilst living in Phuket. I am also very passionate about the environment and animals so I would love to do some volunteering with charities on the island and be involved in beach clean ups, helping to keep our island and world beautiful. I cannot wait to begin teaching our wonderful Year 3 Blue class and getting to know all of you. I want us to be a big family in Year 3 Blue, respecting and celebrating our unique cultures, experiences and talents!
