Parent Committee Meeting
Parent participation is at the core of the school and is included in our mission statement and abiding values. Parent involvement makes a significant statement about the importance of education, reinforces the values of our school, and benefits all of the members of our community. The membership of the Parent Committee at HeadStart reflects each area of the school and aims to include parents to represent the nationalities and languages of the families in our community. To be a member of the committee, all that you need is a sense of commitment and a capacity to contribute to the benefit of the school community.

|Loy Krathong Celebrations
On November 24th, HeadStart Cherngtalay had an extraordinary celebration marking our first Loy Krathong Day, a cherished and festive occasion in Thailand. For a complete photo album of all our Loy Krathong activities, click here: Loy Krathong Photo Album
Loy Krathong Foundation Assembly
The Foundation Assembly commenced with a moment of national pride, as Talay and Zai-tang led a dignified Thai Flag-Raising Ceremony, symbolising unity and respect. Then the festivities kicked off with a lovely performance by our Early Years students who sang and danced to the Thai song “Little Chickens” while the Reception students brought smiles with their performances of “Smiley Sun” and “I am a Cloud”. The cultural immersion continued with the traditional Thai dance presented by our talented Foundation teachers. To cap off this joyous occasion, both students and parents came together to make and float Krathongs at the Foundation Playground, creating beautiful memories that will be cherished for years to come!
Loy Krathong Primary Assembly
The celebration extended to our Primary Assembly, where Year 6 students presented a role play about the history of Loy Krathong. Year 5 students showcased traditional Thai dance, and our talented Thai parents treated us to a special performance representing Northeast Thailand or Isan. Our Primary teachers, led by our Thai teacher, also treated us to enchanting traditional Thai dances, adding a touch of cultural richness to the festivities. To top it off, both students and parents enjoyed making Krathongs and floating them together, strengthening the bonds within our school community.
A heartfelt thank you to all parents for your enthusiastic participation and support, making this Loy Krathong celebration truly spectacular!
|Gail Clarke - Author Visit
What a pleasure it was to have renowned children’s author and illustrator, Gail Clarke, come to our school over two days to share her wonderful stories about animals and the natural world. Children of all ages were enthralled and captivated by Gail’s storytelling and excited to share ideas of their own - from the children of Reception class laughing about the animals swapping their “coats” in ‘Mischief at the Waterhole’ to the inspiration felt by the students in Year 6 as they discussed the ingredients that could go into writing their own story ideas - this was a truly unique and valuable experience of meeting a real life author and illustrator for the first time!
On the last Sunday of the month (26 November) Mother`s Day was celebrated in Russia. In connection with this, Russian-speaking students from HeadStart Cherngtalay campus prepared congratulations for their mothers and grandmothers. The children participated in creating a poster with greetings and made postcards. They learned the rules of composing written greetings and developed their creative skills. Such a format of activities was very much enjoyed by the students. We join in the congratulations and wishes of all the best to our moms!

On Tuesday 28th November, our U11 Girls team travelled for an away match a KIS. It was great to see the girls applying the skills learned in training and enjoying themselves so much in the heat of competition! Well done, girls! You are building a great team for the future.
Continuing to Build Water Confidence in Preschool
Preschool’s test run to the pool went swimmingly this week! Swimming helps water confidence in 2 and 3-year-olds by familiarising them with the water environment, introducing buoyancy and floating skills, and encouraging water play and exploration. The gradual progression of swimming skills, positive reinforcement from caregivers, and social interaction with peers contribute to a sense of accomplishment and trust in the water.
Fossil Making in Year 3
In Science this week, Year 3 have explored fossils. We explored how fossils are the remains left behind by ancient animals and plants. Some fossils show us amazing things about extinct organisms that once roamed the earth. We had a go at making our own fossils through impressions of shells.
Contributing to Shark and Turtle Conservation in Year 4
This week, Year 4 joined their friends from Chaofah City campus on a trip to Panwa Aquarium to find out all about the conservation and rehabilitation projects there. To begin with, the students explored the aquarium and found out about its different projects. They then took part in their very own Bamboo Shark release, contributing to the continued protection and rehabilitation of this precious but endangered little shark. Finally, the students were introduced to the variety of turtle species being cared for by the aquarium’s staff as they recover from unfortunate interactions with human beings, including becoming entangled in plastic waste and accidentally encountering the propellors of local boats! Year 4 are learning about ways in which they can continue to contribute to keeping our seas and oceans healthy and full of life.

Jasmine’s Storytelling Journey
We are very proud to share with you a voiceover project that Jasmine from Year 3 has done in collaboration with a local clothing brand based in Phuket. The brand works with local artists, celebrates Thai culture and supports community organisations through its production.
With their latest design as inspiration, Jasmine’s mother wrote a story about tigers to accompany a wonderful animated film. Jasmine spent many evenings practicing various scripts and, on the day of recording, demonstrated professionalism that would be admirable even for an adult. Jasmine delivered a perfect performance at the very first try and the recording was a wrap at the third time of asking! Well done Jasmine!
More Gymnastic Success for Jia!
Jia has been at it again, this time in rhythm gymnastics at the Wanjan Gymnastics Club & SSRU Competition 2023. She received 3 medals in total - 1 gold medal for Freehand and and 3 silver medals for Ball Performance, Rope Skills and Body Skills. What an outstanding achievement, Jia!
