Announcements
**ECA’s (Extra Curricular Activities) **All Academic, Art and Music programmes will start this coming Monday. 1. Check this link for more information regarding the programmes: http://headstartphuket.com/activities/extra-curricular-activities-2/ 2. Please don’t pay for the programme until you receive an invoice. This will avoid unnecessary refunds and confusion while everyone settles into the right class. 3. Remember to inform the Homeroom teacher, if your child is attending a programme, so that they can make sure your child has safely been transferred to the ECA teacher.
**Casual Clothes Day **Starting this year, we would like to use our first Friday of the month non-uniform days as fundraisers. This month’s objective is to raise funds for Kru Sah to help pay for her hospital bills. Any student who wishes to not wear their school uniform should bring in a small donation on Friday and the homeroom teacher will collect this. Kru Sah was one of our Thai teachers last academic year. Last week she suffered from a brain aneurysm. She is currently still in the hospital recovering.
** Motorcycle Safety in Secondary **To ensure the continued safety of Secondary Students coming out of school, HeadStart requests that: 1. Parents who want to allow their child to travel to and from school by motorcycle should inform the school by email or letter. 2. Parents who want to allow their child to walk home, or be collected outside school, should inform school by letter or email. These students will be given an exit pass which will have to be shown to the guards. Students who do not have a pass will not be allowed to leave school.
New School Campus Construction Update, *by Huw Butler, Director of Athena Siam Construction Company *Despite the persistent heavy rain the site has been able to continue with the progress. The primary and secondary 2nd floor is being constructed. The basketball columns to the 2nd floor are complete and the beams to the 2nd floor are 40% complete. The foundation building is progressing well with all columns scheduled for completion on the 10th of September. The swimming pool and surge tanks are behind programme due to the heavy rains. The slab to the tanks will be complete by the 5th of September.
* The gym/changing room/basketball building:* The swimming pool pump room area: Beams complete to the first level of the basketball building The pump room area will have the slab complete this week. First area will be complete on the 7th September The walls will commence to the tank thereafter.

Preschoolers Learning the Letter “a” Sound *by Lisa Parsons, Preschool Teacher *Preschoolers enjoyed the activity of matching animal pictures to the correct letter.

Year 10 Parents and Students Meeting *by Mark Goodman, Head of Secondary *On Thursday and Friday, the 4th and 5th of September, Year 10 students and their parents attended a meeting at school welcoming them to KeyStage 4 - the iGCSE years. Parents watched a presentation that described the differences between KeyStages 3 and 4. Parents and students also watched a presentation about the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, which HeadStart is proud to announce is now embedded into the Year 10 curriculum. The international award has been completed by 8 million young people and has helped them to become stronger, prouder and more independent.

In January 2013 I moved to Thailand, fulfilling a long held ambition to live and work overseas. I began teaching at HeadStart International School in August, 2013. Hair Policy in Secondary, *by Paul Kennedy, Pastoral Care *From Monday, September 9, 2014 there will be Zero tolerance of highlights and dyed hair. If any student has highlights or dyed hair they will wear the swimming cap until their hair is back to its natural colour.

Phuket Annual Academic Competition **We are very pleased to inform you that 12 students from Foundation through to Secondary will compete with students from over 90 Thai schools in Phuket over the weekend. Learning Self-Sufficiency in the Thai Economy
On Tuesday the 2nd of September,the students of Year 6 in “Thai as a First Language” learned about King Bhumibol’s philosophy of Self-Sufficient Economy for the Thai Nation. Khru We divided the students into groups of three and had them write a narrative about self-sufficiency in their daily lives. Students were interested and motivated in their work.

SUPERKIDZ Aquathon and Anyman Aquathon *by Tladi Small, Head of Physical Education *The HeadStart Panthers will be making their first appearance of the year this Saturday (6th September) in the SUPERKIDZ Aquathon, in Thanyapura starting at 7.30am. We have 18 Panthers (and some parents) taking part in the event, which is a combination of swimming and running. Let’s cheer them on and wish them all the best! การแต่งกายแบบลำลอง
ในปีการศึกษานี้ ให้นักเรียนแต่งกายลำลองตามสบายเพื่อเป็นสัญลักษณ์ว่าเป็นวันแห่งการบริจาคเงิน ซึ่งจะเริ่มในทุกๆวันศุกร์แรกของเดือน ในเดือนนี้มีกองทุนบริจาคเงินเพื่อช่วยค่ารักษาพยาบาลแก่ “ครูสา” นักเรียนคนใดที่เลือกที่จะไม่แต่งเครื่องแบบนักเรียนในวันดังกล่าว พึงเตรียมเงินมาบริจาคบ้างเล็กๆน้อยๆ มอบให้ที่ครูประจำชั้นไว้ ครูสา เป็นครูสอนภาษาไทยคนเก่าที่เคยทำงานที่นี่เมื่อปีการศึกษาที่แล้ว เมื่อสัปดาห์ก่อนนี้ ครูสาล้มป่วยด้วยโรคเส้นเลือดแตกในสมอง ขณะนี้ยังคงรักษาตัวอยู่ที่โรงพยาบาล
ความปลอดภัยของนักเรียนมัธยมในการขับขี่จักรยานยนต์
เพื่อมาตรการดูแลความปลอดภัยของนักเรียนมัธยม ที่ขับขี่รถจักรยานยนต์กลับบ้าน ทางโรงเรียนจึงขอแจ้งให้ทราบว่า:
- ขอให้ท่านผู้ปกครองแจ้งกับทางโรงเรียนเป็นลายลักษณ์อักษร ไม่ว่าจะเขียนจดหมาย หรือส่งอีเมล์ก็ตาม แจ้งความจำนง มาว่าจะขอให้บุตรหลานของท่านขับขี่รถจักรยานยนต์ไป-กลับ โรงเรียนเอง 2. ขอให้ท่านผู้ปกครองแจ้งกับทางโรงเรียนเป็นลายลักษณ์อักษร ไม่ว่าจะเขียนจดหมาย หรือส่งอีเมล์ก็ตาม แจ้งความจำนง มาว่าจะขอให้บุตรหลานของท่านเดินออกจากโรงเรียน เพื่อไปขึ้นรถที่ท่านจอดรอรับอยู่ด้านนอกโรงเรียน หรือ ให้นักเรียนเดินกลับไปบ้านเอง

แม้ว่าจะมีฝนตกหนักมาอย่างต่อเนื่อง ณ สถานที่ก่อสร้างโรงเรียนใหม่ แต่การก่อสร้างก็ยังคืบหน้าอยู่ตลอด ตอนนี้กำลังสร้างห้องเรียนของประถมฯ และมัธยมฯบนชั้นสอง ที่สนามบาสเก็ตบอลนั้นหล่อเสาขึ้นไปชั้นสองเสร็จแล้วและคานเสร็จไปได้ 40% อาคารเรียนชั้นอนุบาลก็กำลังคืบหน้าไปได้ดี กำหนดว่าจะหล่อเสาเสร็จในวันที่ 10 กันยายน ที่ล่าช้ากว่ากำหนดก็คือการสร้างสระว่ายน้ำและบ่อเก็บน้ำสำรองเพื่อพักน้ำและทำความสะอาดน้ำ (surge tanks) เพราะฝนที่ตกหนักเป็นอุปสรรคอย่างมาก พื้นซีเมนต์ของบ่อจะเสร็จภายในวันที่ 5 กันยายน* *ข่าวจากห้องสมุด

การประชุมผู้ปกครองและนักเรียนชั้น Y10 โดย ครู Mark Goodman, Head of Secondary
เมื่อวันที่พฤหัสฯที่ 4 และวันศุกร์ที่ 5 ทางโรงเรียนจัดประชุมผู้ปกครองและนักเรียนชั้น Y10 เพื่อต้อนรับนักเรียนก้าวขึ้นไปเข้าสู่ระดับ KeyStage 4 ซึ่งเป็นปีแห่งการศึกษา iGCSE ได้มีการใช้สื่อนำเสนอ อธิบายให้ผู้ปกครองได้เห็นความแตกต่างระหว่าง KeyStages 3 และ 4 และ ในเรื่อง Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award ซึ่งทางโรงเรียนภูมิใจที่แจ้งให้ทราบว่าได้บรรจุลงในหลักสูตรของ Y10 แล้ว มีเยาวชนถึง 8 ล้านคนได้รับรางวัลนี้ ซึ่งขั้นตอนต่างๆในการบรรลุถึงรางวัลดังกล่าว ช่วยเสริมให้นักเรียนมีความเข้มแข็ง ความภาคภูมิใจ และมีพึ่งพาตนเอง ได้มากขึ้น

ผมชื่อ ไมเคิล เฮอรี่ มาจากประเทศอังกฤษ ผมเกิดที่กรุงลอนดอน ผมต้องการมาหาประสบการณ์ทำงานในต่างประเทศ ดังนั้น ผมจึงได้ย้ายมาอยู่ที่ประเทศไทยเมื่อเดือนทกราคม ปี 2556 และเริ่มสอนหนังสือที่ เฮดสตาร์ท เมื่อเดือนสิงหาคม 2556
ผมทุ่มเทช่วยสนับสนุนนักเรียนของผมอย่างเต็มที่ และมองดูเค้าเก่งขึ้นไป ผมเชื่อว่าทุกๆคนที่ตั้งใจและทุ่มเท เพื่อให้ลุล่วงตามที่ต้องการ ก็จะสามารถประสบความสำเร็จและมีความสุขได้ ความที่ผมมีความเชื่อมั่นมานานแล้วนี่เอง ที่นำให้นักเรียนของผมทั้งหมดเก่งขึ้นเกินความคาดหมาย และเมื่อล่าสุดนี้นักเรียนของผม Year 11 IGCSE Business Studies class ทำข้อสอบปลายปีได้ดีมาก ความสำเร็จของนักเรียนเหล่านั้นช่วยเพิ่มพลังให้ผมอย่างแรงกล้าที่จะทุ่มเทให้กับการสอนยิ่งขึ้นไปอีก

ระเบียบข้อบังคับ เรื่องทรงผมของนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมฯ โดย Paul Kennedy, Pastoral Care
นับตั้งแต่วันจันทร์ ที่ 8 กันยายน 2557 เป็นต้นไป ห้ามนักเรียน ทำไฮไล้ โกรก หรือย้อมผมโดยเด็ดขาด
หากผู้ใดฝ่าฝืน จะมีบทลงโทษคือจะต้องสวมหมวกว่ายน้ำไว้ตลอดเวลา จนกว่าจะเปลี่ยนสีผมเป็นสีเดิมตามธรรมชาติของตน **
ตามคู่มือผู้ปกครอง 2557: ระเบียบข้อบังคับ เรื่องทรงผมของนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมฯ ระบุไว้ว่าต้องรักษาความสะอาดของผม หวีให้เรียบร้อย ไว้ทรงสุภาพ หากไว้ผมยาว ก็ต้องมัดผมให้เรียบร้อย หากมีการย้อม หรือโกรกผม ก็ต้องเป็นสีเดียวกับธรรมชาติของสีผมตน ห้ามทำไฮไล้ ห้ามทำผมทรงที่เปรี้ยวจัด

ข่าวเรื่องการประชุมท่านผู้ปกครองไทย
เมื่อวันที่ 2 กันยายน นี้ ครูแอนดรู (รองหัวหน้าแผนกประถมฯ) ได้บรรยายให้ผู้ปกครองไทยฟัง เรื่อง “Behaviour Management.” คือการบริหารจัดการพฤติกรรม ซึ่งหวังว่าจะเป็นประโยชน์แก่ท่าน
การประชุมท่านผู้ปกครองไทย ครั้งต่อไป
ขอเรียนเชิญ ท่านผู้ปกครองไทย ของนักเรียน Y1 มาเข้าร่วมประชุมในวันอังคาร ที่ 9 กันยายน เวลา 08:30-09:30 น. ที่ห้องสมุดของโรงเรียน ทีมผู้บริหารจากภาควิชาภาษาไทยจะนำเสนอเรื่องการเลือกเรียนภาษาที่เป็นวิชาเลือก สำหรับเด็ก Y1 เรื่องการสะกดคำ และเรื่องการบ้าน พบกันในเร็วๆนี้ค่ะ

การแข่งขันทางวิชาการประจำปีของจังหวัดภูเก็ต
ทางโรงเรียนขอแจ้งด้วยความภาคภูมิใจว่า นักเรียน 12 คน ตั้งแต่ชั้นอนุบาล ถึงชั้นมัธยมฯ จะได้ไปร่วมการแข่งขันกับนักเรียนจากโรงเรียนอื่นๆในภูเก็ตอีกมากกว่า 90 โรงเรียน ในช่วงสุดสัปดาห์นี้ นักเรียนเหล่านี้ได้เตรียมตัวฝึกซ้อมมาอย่างหนักตั้งแต่ปีการศึกษาก่อนแล้ว เพื่อการแข่งขันนี้ พวกเราขอให้ทุกคนโชคดี และจะรอฟังข่าวดีสัปดาห์หน้าค่ะ
การเรียนเรื่องการอยู่แบบพอเพียง ในสังคมไทย
เมื่อวันอังคารที่ 2 กันยายน นี้ นักเรียน Y6 ที่เลือกเรียนวิชาภาษาไทยแบบภาษาแม่ ได้เรียนเรื่อง ปรัชญาเศรษฐกิจพอเพียงสำหรับชาวไทย ที่พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวภูมิพลอดุลยเดช ทรงพระราชทานให้แก่ปวงชนชาวไทย ครูได้แบ่งนักเรียนออกเป็นกลุ่มๆละ 3คน แล้วให้แต่ละกลุ่มช่วยกันเขียนเรื่องการอยู่แบบพอเพียง ในชีวิตประจำวัน นักเรียนให้ความสนใจและเกิดแรงบันดาลใจในการเขียนเรื่องนี้

ทีม HeadStart Panthers จะเข้าร่วมแข่งขันรายการแรกของปีการศึกษานี้คือ SUPERKIDZ Aquathon ในวันเสาร์ที่ 6 กันยายน ที่ธัญญปุระ เริ่มเวลา 07:30 น. ทีมของเรามีนักเรียน 18 คน และมีบางผู้ปกครองเข้าร่วมด้วย ซึ่งการแข่งขันนี้มีผสมผสาน ว่ายน้ำและวิ่ง ขอให้ช่วยเป็นกำลังใจด้วยนะครับ
