Important Announcements
**End of School Year Assembly **HeadStart will hold an end of school year assembly on the 3rd of July from 1:45-3:00 at the school Football pitch. This event will include a Sport’s Award Ceremony as well as speeches from the Management. We will end with an all school ice cream treat with enough time to get your Yearbook’s signed by teachers and friends. We invite parents and guardians to attend this event.
**Secondary Activity Day **To wrap up this year’s hard work and good effort on the part of the teachers and students, HeadStart has organized a full activity day for all Secondary students and teachers on the 3rd of July. It will be complete with a BBQ picnic and a farewell ice cream treat. Students and teachers will group into teams and go through 4 stations of activities which will include Football, Basketball, Thai team building activities and a quiz.
We invite parents to join the ‘Parent’s vs Students’ Football Friendlies from 1:00-2:00 pm. Many parents have already signed up to take part so don’t miss out! Find out more details by e-mailing Miki at [email protected] or Khru Nee at [email protected].
Year 10 Invitation to the Senior’s Leaving party HeadStart CEO Jazon Edouard and School Licensee Khun Parimon Phaisamran request the pleasure of the Year 10’s company at the Year 11 Senior’s Leaving Party 2014 that will take place at the Blue Elephant on the 30th of June from 5:30-8:00 pm.
**Yearbook for Sale! **The 2013-2014 Yearbook has gone to print! It will be available to buy for only 300 Baht at the Music and Arts Celebration on the 28th of June! Each purchase will include a DVD with a video and pictures of the student’s performance ‘Around the World in 120 Minutes!’
Special Request for Prizes for HeadStart Staff Party by Jazon Edouard Is your company in a position where you can offer a meal for 2, a 1-2 night stay at your hotel, a spa package or any other such treats for the HeadStart teachers and staff party that will take place on the 4th of July? **Lost and Found Search for Owners **In an effort to get all of the objects in Lost and Found back to their original owners, the Librarian and School Nurse will have a table at the entrance to the school, with everything laid out, at the beginning and end of each day for one week: June 23 – 27, 2014.
Objects that have not been claimed by the end of the week, will be put on sale from June 30 - July 3, 2014. Left over items and the proceeds of the sale will be donated to the Maintenance Staff Fund.

*Silpchai Tanetpongsiri has worked at HeadStart for 2 years. Silpchai was born in Nakhon Si Thammarat, he has lived in Phuket for 25 years, and has a 13 year old son. Before he joined us, he worked as a chef, a school bus driver, and volunteered in the police service at ToonTong Police Station. He particularly enjoys the good benefits that come with his job and is committed to keeping the students safe, so that they will feel at home and love to learn here, at HeadStart International School, Phuket.
**Good Shepherd School **In an effort to continue our collaboration with the Good Shepherd School, we invited their teachers to come and visit HeadStart on June 17. Ms Julie Cousineau met with the foreign staff to discuss teaching values, share classroom management tips, and assessment and marking policies. Mrs Baci toured the school with the Thai and Burmese teachers. HeadStart hopes to continue to support the Good Shepherd and their volunteers in the future.
**HeadStart Summer Camp **Due to continued interest, the deadline for signing up for the summer camp has been extended to next Friday, 27th June! Please sign up at the front office or email [email protected].com for a registration form.
Parenting Tip
As a parent, you are your child’s first and most important teacher. When parents and families are involved in their children’s schools, the children do better and are happier about going to school. ** Every child has the power to succeed in school and in life and every parent, family member and guardian can help. The question is: How can we help our children succeed?**
Teachers often say that they don’t always receive information from parents about problems at home. Many parents say that they don’t know what the school expects from their children, or from them. Sharing information is essential and both teachers and parents are responsible for making it happen.
Some parents are reluctant to talk with teachers if they cannot speak English well. Please don’t let a language barrier stop you. What you have to say is more important than the language you say it in! Find out if someone at the school can interpret for you. There may be a teacher or parent who speaks your language. You can also bring a friend or relative to interpret for you.
For some parents, it’s hard to find time to meet with teachers or to attend school events, especially during the day. But there are other ways you can communicate with your child’s teacher, such as by telephone, e-mail or via the child’s school planner.
Organise your time effectively and do ** a few things at once. Arrange to do quiet household chores in the same room where your children are doing homework. That way, you can be there to answer questions. You may have younger children start homework in the car while you wait for older siblings to get out of school. The car is a quiet place where you can talk together.
Make daily routines a time for learning. Make the school journey a time to talk about school work. Children are learning all the time, but when you talk to them like this, it can help even more with their learning.
As a busy parent, you can’t do everything yourself. One important thing you can do is be the manager, and make arrangements for other people to help. Arrange for people to help children with homework. This could be a tutor, an older sibling or student or even a school friend. Study groups can be fun as well as helping children to learn. This could be something you do in conjunction with another parent or parents.

Rain Day at the Aquarium by Lisa Parsons, Preschool Teacher ** ** **Due to the rainy weather we all decided to go for the field trip at the aquarium instead of the zoo. The children had lots of fun and they had art class there too.
A Story About Birds by Lisa Parsons, Preschool Teacher ** ** **The book of the week was Birds. So, Phukan, told his friends a story about birds in the Thai language.
Early Years Learning about Metals and Magnets by Anisa Van Der Laan, Early Years A Teacher ** ** **This week Early Years is learning about metals and magnets. We tried out our big set of magnets and magnetic metals. The kids were all amazed. We took our magnets out to the Outdoor Classroom (the Playground) and looked for metal objects that they would stick to. This is what some of the EY students said, “Wow! That’s just like magic” and, “It sticks without any glue” and, “the magnets like each other!”
Reception Visits the Upside Down House by Laura Rutherford, Reception B Teacher ** ** **Reception classes visited the ‘Upside Down House’ to support our Literacy topic based on the Dr. Seuss book, ‘Wacky Wednesday’. We got lost in the maze and then explored the upside down, topsy-turvy world inside the house. We really did have a Wacky Wednesday!!!

Year 5A Gets Ready for Arts & Music Appreciation Day by Heidi St. Hill, Y5A Teacher ** ** **With the end of year performance quickly approaching, Year 5A got started making the last part of their costumes. Using their knowledge of Aztec patterns and colours, they created hand painted shirts which they will wear with the rest of their costumes. They had fun coming up with designs and creating their looks. Take a look!
Invitation to Assembly on Wednesday by Kevin Reynolds, Y6B Teacher ** ** **Dear parents: I am writing to invite you to our assembly next Wednesday 25th June in the library at 8am. The children will be reminiscing about their time in primary, reciting poems and sharing their favourite memories. The assembly will culminate in a MovieMaker project that the children have been working on over the course of the term. It would be great to see as many of you there as possible.

**Duke of Edinburgh Activity **Darren Edouard, Ken Rotman and Andrew Marshall volunteered at the Phuket Sunshine Village last Saturday as part of their Duke of Edinburgh program. We are looking forward to seeing these hard workers get their Bronze Awards very soon!

Preschool Inspection by Sontana Baci, Deputy School Director ** ** **Last week, officials from the Phuket Office of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security visited HeadStart’s Preschool department. The team checked all documents as well as the school security system to make sure that our students are safe and secure. We will receive the results from this inspection next academic school year.

Second Place for James! by Kevin Reynolds, Year 6B Teacher ** **
June 18, 2014 was the last day of the Tournament for Korea. James achieved 2nd place in his draw and went into Semi-Finals against the Thailand Champion for 12Y Boys. It was a very good match, and James was full of fighting spirit, but lost 3:6,3:6. He gained a lot of experience from this tournament, especially since he had the chance to participate within the Top 8 of Thailand. This weekend James will go for another tournament in Bangkok, so we wish him luck!

Last Week’s Football Friendly Results by Tladi Small, Head of P.E.** **The HeadStart Panthers girls Football team played their first ever game against Youth Football Home Girls on the weekend. From the off it was the YFH girls who took control of this game with some fine attacking football and a more structured formation. Some fine personal performances were put in by our midfield and defence. They consistently repelled YFH attacking raids and supplied our forwards with good ball throughout the game.
This was a great first up game for our girls with football being the real winner. On reflection this will go down as a landmark day for the Headstart Panthers girls Football team and I’m sure they will go on from here and give more fine displays of football. Well done and congratulations on a great effort to all those who played (see below).

ช่วงเช้าและช่วงบ่าย ของวันที่ 23 – 27 มิถุนายนนี้ ทางบรรณารักษ์ และพยาบาลของเรา จะรวบรวมเอาของหายต่างๆที่พบเจอในโรงเรียนทั้งหมด ออกมาตั้งโต๊ะโชว์ที่หน้าทางเข้า เพื่อที่จะส่งมอบสิ่งของเหล่านี้คืนให้แก่เจ้าของ
เมื่อถึงวันสุดท้ายของสัปดาห์ ยังเหลือสิ่งของที่ไม่มีเจ้าของมาทวงคืน เราจะนำของเหล่านั้นมาวางขายแบบทอดตลาด ในช่วงวันที่ 30 มิถุนายน – 3 กรกฎาคม ส่วนของที่คงเหลือและเงินที่ได้จากการขายนี้ จะนำไปสมทบทุนกองทุนช่วยเหลือพนักงาน ต่อไป

คุณศิลป์ชัย ธเนสพงศ์สิริ (หัวหน้า รปภ) ได้ทำงานที่โรงเรียนนี้มานาน 2 ปีแล้ว คุณศิลป์ชัยเกิดที่จังหวัดนครศรีธรรมราช ย้ายมาอยู่จังหวัดภูเก็ตได้ 25 ปีแล้ว มีบุตรชาย 1 คน อายุ 13 ปี ก่อนหน้าที่จะมาทำงานกับเรา คุณศิลป์ชัยเคยทำงานหลายอย่างมาก่อน เช่นเป็น Chef และเคยเป็นคนขับรถโรงเรียน อีกทั้งยังเคยเป็นอาสาสมัครที่ สถานีตำรวจภูธรทุ่งทอง สิ่งที่คุณศิลป์ชัยชอบที่สุดของบริษัทฯก็คือ..บริษัทดูแลพนักงานเป็นอย่างดี คุณศิลป์ชัยตั้งใจที่จะทำงานดูแลความปลอดภัย และให้ความอบอุ่น แก่นักเรียนที่นี่อย่างดีที่สุด เพื่อให้น้องๆเหล่านั้นอยากมาโรงเรียน มีความสุขและรักที่จะเรียนหนังสือที่โรงเรียนนี้
Good Shepherd School

วันงานสิ้นปีการศึกษา ใกล้เข้ามาทุกวันแล้ว เด็กๆ ห้อง Year 5A ช่วยกันทำขั้นตอนสุดท้ายของอุปกรณ์เครื่องแต่งกายสำหรับการแสดง เด็กๆใช้ความรู้ เรื่องเกี่ยวกับแบบและสี มาออกแบบเสื้อทาสี แบบของ Aztec ซึ่งจะใส่ร่วมกับเครื่องแต่งกายชิ้นอื่นๆที่เตรียมไว้ เด็กๆสนุกกันมากกับการออกแบบเสื้อของตนเอง

วันที่ 18 มิถุนายน เป็นวันสุดท้ายของการแข่งขันที่เกาหลี น้อง James ชนะที่ 2 ของการแข่งขันสำหรับอายุ 12 ปี จากการได้แต้มเสมอ แล้วเข้าไปในรอบรองฯ เป็นการแข่งที่สมน้ำสมเนื้อมาก James ได้พยายามอย่างเต็มที่ แต่ก็พ่ายไปด้วยแต้ม 3:6, 3:6 นับเป็นประสบการณ์ที่ล้ำค่ามาก โดยเฉพาะที่ได้เข้าร่วมแข่งขันกับระดับ 8 คนต้นๆ ของทีมชาติไทย และสัปดาห์นี้ น้อง James จะไปเข้าแข่งขันรายการอื่นอีก ที่กรุงเทพฯ โชคดีครับ

นัดแรกนี้ เยี่ยมมากสำหรับทีมของเรา เรื่องแพ้ชนะไม่สำคัญ แต่นี่นับเป็นจุดเปลี่ยนอันยิ่งใหญ่ ของทีมเด็กหญิงของเรา (Panthers girls Football team) มั่นใจได้ว่า น้องๆจะเล่นได้เยี่ยมขึ้นไปเรื่อยๆ ขอแสดงความยินดีกับทุกๆคนครับ ดูรายชื่อ…และรายละเอียดนัดต่อๆไป….
