Invitation to Fill out Parent Survey
As a school, we are always looking for ways in which we can continue to improve and develop our school environment and the programmes we offer. Your feedback and suggestions are important to us and will help us to make HeadStart the best possible experience for your child. We hope you will take a few minutes of your time to help us to fill in this Parent Survey, the results of which will be shared with the Parent Committee next week and with the wider community the week after. This survey is anonymous and the school sees the responses but does not see which parent is submitting the information.

Car Park Safety
The safety and wellbeing of our students is of paramount importance to us and for some time now, we have noticed students leaving school and turning left at the exit in order to access shops behind the school. There have been concerns about the student’s safety as the back road behind the school is narrow and dangerous. In order to avoid the possibility of an accident, we are limiting students from turning left and asking that instead, they buy from the vendor that has been relocated to the exterior car park walkway. We hope that this will minimize risk while at the same time giving access to student’s favourite afternoon snacks and drinks.

A big thank you to Khun Niti Raktaetrakul for giving the school wooden pallets which have now been used to create a water play system for our Foundation pupils. Also, the maintenance team have used the remaining palettes to build stands for hanging our salad plants. This goes well with the school’s ethos of reducing, reusing and recycling!

We have had another busy and fun week in Reception Yellow. We read the stories Dinosaurs love underwear and Aliens love underwear this sparked such an interest in the children so we did a vote on how our next role play area will look like, the vote was VERY close but they decided on dinosaurs and agreed between themselves when we have finished with dinosaurs we can look more at Aliens and space! They were very busy on Wednesday designing this new area with P.Kwan. They have been very engaged in Valentines and Lunar New Year activities and had a very fun Friday dressing up and playing with the whole of foundation! It was lovely to see the children confidently go and explore the other classrooms, activities and speak with other teachers they don’t usually see in our own classroom. -Ms Milly Gallanders
Early Years Yellow made Jam Tarts, a typical English dessert. The children helped to make the pastry and we then cut it into circles. They all had a turn to add jam in the middle. Baking is a great experience for the children. It helps them to understand waiting and taking their turn. They listen and communicate with each other throughout and show high levels of concentration and engagement in the task. It is also a nice way to show them an outcome for their efforts which they all enjoyed at snack time! -Ms Suzi Chaemchaeng

Congratulations to our Year 1-3 Students of the Month for Maths. Well done and keep up the good work Nath, Luca, Kim, Mark, Pip, Puan, Candy, Yinhying and Alice.
In Year 1 Blue, the children have been reading and retelling the story, ‘Little Red Riding Hood.’ To support us with remembering the story, the children created a story path. First, they sequenced some pictures from the story. Then, the children decided as a team what words they could add to their path. Lots of the children decided to add time conjunctions, WOW words (adjectives) and labelled the characters. After that, the children walked along their path, using the pictures and keywords to orally retell the story. Over the next few weeks, we will be pretending to be the big bad wolf and writing a recount from the wolf’s perspective. -Mr Sam Young (click on photos to expand)
Year 5 Blue have been working collaboratively in science to design and make parachutes in order to investigate the effect that different variables have on air resistance. They are going to investigate the size of the parachute, the material the parachute is made from and the length of strings on the parachute to see which parachute is most effective. When carrying out an investigation, it is important to make sure that it is a fair test therefore all variables, apart from the one being investigated, must stay the same; the children had to measure and cut precisely to ensure that their test is fair. -Ms Carla Whitehead (click on photos to expand)

Running ASP
This week the Running ASP had a bit of friendly competition! Students were given a list of fitness running challenges and in order to decide which challenge they would do, they had to take a chance and put their hand into the lucky dip to find a coloured cube! Depending on the colour, the cube would dictate which challenge they did. At the end, whoever was able to build the longest tower out of the cubes they had collected within the hour was the winner of the house points! We really enjoyed it and as usual, we were pushed physically and mentally to have lots of fun while raising the fitness levels and improving our running skills! Students ran over 4k and burnt over 470 calories so it was quite the workout. Everyone is welcome to please come and join the running ASP on Tuesdays after school. -Ms Charlotte Myers
Football
This weekend saw all of our boys teams in action playing in some really good and challenging football matches. Each team worked extremely hard which resulted in some very close score lines. Thanks to Bangjo Academy, Trimas Temple and PSG for coming over for some great games. -Coach Frost
With over 60 students enrolled in the HeadStart Football Academy, coaches are working hard to keep students motivated and actively learning new skills. Team sports have great benefits for health and physical development, but they also teach children very important values such as discipline, focus, the benefits of working together with a team to accomplish a common goal. If you would like to find out more about the academy programmes drop a line to Head Coach Stef at [email protected]
