Year 8 Field Trip to Phuket Old Town
By Richard Cramp and Rebecca Barker
On Monday the Year 8 students went on their Term 1 field trip to Phuket’s Old Quarter. Here they had a chance to learn about Phuket’s interesting tin mining history and how European and Chinese traders shaped its economy, culture and politics. All of this is evident when looking at the Sino-European/Portugese architecture as we walked down Thalang Road, the heart of Phuket’s Old Quarter. After admiring the historical architecture, the students were treated to a guided tour of the Thai Hua Museum, where we learnt much more about Chinese immigrants coming to Phuket to work in the tin mines and how this has shaped the Phuket we know and love today.
On Saturday the Year 10 students set off for their Adventurous Journey practice for the DoE award.
Some classes in Secondary are now participating in a block of swimming. The students are working on technique and fitness.
