My name Ashley and I will be teaching English across KS3-KS4 at HeadStart International School. I have been teaching English for five years in a variety of different contexts. I graduated from the University of Manchester with a B.A in English Language and then embarked on a life-changing adventure to teach English in Krabi. After three years, I returned to the U.K and went to Edge Hill University to gain my PGCE in Secondary English. Soon after completing my course, I gained my first teaching post in St. Helens, where I stayed for two years teaching both English and Drama. I believe that the most important asset of a teacher is to inspire students and ultimately provide them with opportunities that will inevitably lead to doors being opened for them in their future adult lives. As a teacher, I aim to inspire and enthuse my students in order to cultivate a lifelong love of learning; an ethos which clearly underpins the success at HeadStart. Furthermore, I strongly believe in the importance of bringing language and literature to life through the use of drama and a variety of fun and engaging activities within the classroom. Using active approaches helps aid students’ understanding by demystifying what initially can be something rather abstract. In my daily teaching practice, I endeavour to cultivate an autonomous learning environment whereby students have a greater degree of responsibility for their learning. Outside of the classroom, I can usually be found on one of the many sunny beaches on the island. I am also a keen runner and have scheduled three half-marathons already! Thailand is such a beautiful country and I can’t wait to explore more of it. I really am looking forward to starting my journey at HeadStart and providing students with an array of opportunities to flourish both in and outside of the classroom.
