My name is Katherine Dickie and this is my second year at HeadStart and I will be teaching Year 4 Yellow. I am a Canadian citizen from the province of Nova Scotia. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in English from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia and a Bachelor of Education from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. My background in teaching started in Stockholm, Sweden where I taught science to years 4, 5 and 6 for two years. I became Head of the Elementary Science Department in my second year. From there I moved to Bangkok, Thailand to become a homeroom teacher for year 1. After being away from Canada for three consecutive years, I made the decision to move back to Nova Scotia where I secured a one year teaching position in a private school teaching year 1. Now I am entering my second year here in Phuket and Thailand continues to feel like my new home. I am so fortunate to be here and I look forward to more experiences in this beautiful country. Teaching is my passion and I find such happiness watching students grow through their learning process. I believe having fun in the classroom is important when it comes to maintaining curiosity. Pupils learn best when they’re active, engaged and working together as a team. I look forward to working collaboratively with the HeadStart teachers, parents and pupils. I am excited to meet the new year 4 class and I know that working together, we can achieve excellent results.
