My name is Lucie and I am very excited to be continuing my teaching journey at Headstart International School this year. I am from the UK and grew up in a small town in the Midlands called Nuneaton. I loved school and always dreamed of being a teacher. I worked in management in children’s play centers and also lead summer play schemes which helped me to gain lots of experience in working with children. I then studied at Liverpool John Moores University and gained a degree in Physical Geography. I returned to Derby University in 2010 to complete my PGCE Primary Education with a PE specialism. Before moving to beautiful Phuket I worked as a year 1 teacher for four years in a large infant school in Derby, UK. I love working with year 1 children, and helping them to transition from their foundation education. My passion in teaching is reading and phonics and I love nothing more than to see children confidently reading. During my time in this position I was the subject coordinator for Physical Education, Geography and I was also on the Literacy team. I worked hard to provide lots of opportunities for the children, such as building a wildflower meadow and gaining a gold woodland trust award. Prior to this I worked for a year in China in an English language school. I worked closely with a wide age range of children, helping them to gain confidence in speaking and understanding English. This was a wonderful experience for me and I am hoping that my time working as a teacher overseas, and my experience in year one will set me up well for my new position at Headstart. Outside school I love to travel and explore. I enjoy walking, trying new things and making new friends. I am always listening to music and I enjoy a good chat with friends!
