My name is Sophie Webb and I come from Portsmouth on the South coast of the UK. I began teaching at HeadStart International School in August 2017. As well as class teacher, I am the primary subject co-ordinator for mathematics and the Phase Leader for Upper Key Stage 2. I graduated from Plymouth University in 2006 with an honors degree in Geography and Ocean Science. After years of volunteering and working with children through the YMCA, I decided to fulfil my dream of becoming a primary school teacher and completed my PGCE through the University of Portsmouth. I graduated in 2008 and have since worked in schools in both the UK and Malaysia. I have worked in management and implemented strategic plans for improvement in several schools. For seven of my eleven teaching years, I have taught year 6 and hope that I bring some of my expert skills and knowledge to HeadStart to improve the learning experiences of the children I teach. I have been a science coordinator for five years and am passionate about children taking part in discovery based learning where they are provided with opportunities to find things out for themselves. I have high expectations for the children I teach and work hard to ensure they are confident, independent and happy learners who are not afraid to take risks and face challenges with resilience and enthusiasm. I believe that learning should be an enjoyable and well-balanced experience and I encourage children to develop their natural curiosity and adventurous spirit. I am really looking forward to getting to know the children’s individual personalities as well as their parents this year and facilitate a learning environment where all students can fulfil their potential.
