Thank you to all of the parents who volunteered with the packing of the Halloween treats for Primary as well as the set up!

Request from the Student Council about the Car Park

The Student School Council has brought up the valid point of poor driving by some parents on the school property. We would like to respectfully ask all parents to take care when picking up students and to observe the regulations regarding safety. We thank the students for bringing this important concern to our attention.

Request from the School Management: Consideration in the Car Park

We understand that the due to an increase of students the car park has become more crowded and can cause a strain on our patience. We apologise for this inconvenience and do hope that if we continue to be considerate of others and follow the rules, it will minimize this negative effect.

Please listen and respect the school Security Guards. When they tell you to move your car please comply as they can see the overall set up of the parking space. We had an instance today when a parent stopped at the security gate to drop a child off. This caused the traffic to back up onto the main road disrupting the other parents coming in and out of the school and resulted in the swimming class being 20 minutes late for their lesson.

School starts at 8:00 am for Year 3 and up in Term 2

Students from Year 3 on to Secondary need to attend Homeroom at 8:00 am as otherwise they will miss valuable information passed on during this time. Homeroom time is the time for teachers to sort out issues in the class and implement pastoral care. Therefore the school will be implementing an 8:00 start to the morning starting in Term 2 but will start practicing as of the beginning of the second half of Term 1. Students on the school bus need not worry as the timing will not change until Term 2.

Notes from the Parent Handbook:

–Students should arrive at school with enough time to attend homeroom at 8.00 am, ready and equipped for the day ahead.

–Students who arrive late (after 8.00 am) should immediately report to the school office to receive a late slip.

–Students who have permission to leave during the day should sign the appropriate form and get it counter-signed by their homeroom teacher before submitting the form to the School Office.

Uniform stock issue​

The issue with the lack of school uniform stock is something the school is trying to resolve but will take time. HeadStart will not penalise or send students home for not wearing the school uniform until we can clear this issue.

Secondary News and Reminders

School Attendance–From Mr Millington

One of my responsibilities as Director of Studies is to ensure our students are provided with excellent opportunities to academically compete at the highest level. I am able to provide the tools for this via the Cambridge and National Curriculum for England throughout the school. These schemes of work are broadly used for your child’s education and the results are very good.

One correlation is evident. Low school attendance equates to underachieving at school. Thai law states that a child in the education system must be present for at least 80% of the school year or they will not automatically progress to the next grade. This is also the case at HeadStart.

Students with a level of attendance below 80% will be required to repeat the year. When necessary, mitigating circumstances with evidence of absence will be considered by the board on an individual basis. Medical notes will be required for any shortfalls in attendance.

All students are required to bring in a note from his or her parent or guardian stating the reason for all absences. These will be kept at school as evidence of genuine sickness. Missing the bus, getting up late or family holidays are not mitigating circumstances.

This action only applies to a small percentage of students at HeadStart. I wanted to make it plain to all that we very much appreciate the vast majority of students arriving at school daily and making teaching and learning a much smoother part of the regular school day.

At HeadStart we always value the relationship between teachers, students and parents and realize the difference between genuine reasons for absence and, as has happened, having ‘sick’ students being seen playing on the beach. The resulting work not being completed and homework missed creates a catch-up society that will not happen at HeadStart.

Thank you for all the parents and students that are helping HeadStart to become a premier international school of choice in Thailand.

Absence—From Mr Goodman, Head of Secondary

If your child is absent, please email the Homeroom teacher or telephone the front office regarding their absence. When your child returns to school - please provide a note for the homeroom teacher. If we don’t get a note, we will have to telephone you.

If your child is absent for no reason, they will be marked on the register as ‘‘unauthorised absence’’.

Basketball Training Times Change—From the P.E. Department

English Department News

The English Department launched its new Reading Programme on Monday. All Key Stage 3 students now have their own reading books and English teachers will be monitoring reading. Each child has their own reading card and we would like to encourage parents to help us with monitoring students reading by either listening to their child read and then signing the card or just simply by signing the card when they have seen their child read. To help encourage more reading, small prizes will be awarded to the boy and girl in each year group who reads the largest number of books each term.

I am very heartened to have seen many students reading their books around the school during break and lunchtimes.

Kids Talk​—From Karen Beardsley

Attached is my October “Kids Talk” article, as a sequel to last months which was about specific learning disabilities. This month is all about active “hands-on” learners, with activity suggestions to supplement or support this individual learning style. I hope you will find some useful ideas and tips!

ผู้ปกครองควรจัดกิจวัตรที่เหมาะสมกับวัยของบุตรหลานไม่ว่าจะเป็นการนอนที่เพียงพอ, การลดน้ำหนักและการออกกำลังการ จากการประเมินนักเรียนในระดับเตรียมอนุบาล(3-5 ปี)ควรนอนเป็นเวลา

11-13 ชั่วโมง เด็กในวัยเรียนไปจนถึงอายุ 12 ปี ควรนอนเป็นเวลา 10-11 ชั่วโมง เหมือนที่คุณ Menssana กล่าวไว้ว่า เด็กควรจะได้ทานอาหารที่มีประโยชน์และสม่ำเสมอ พร้อมกับได้ออกกำลังกายด้วย

สภานักเรียนได้หยิบยกเรื่องการขับรถของผู้ปกครองว่าอยากจะไคร่ขอร้องให้ทุกท่านปฏิบัติตามกฏระเบียบและคำนึงถึงความปลอดภัยให้มากที่สุด

คำขอจากคณะผู้บริหาร – เรื่องลานจอดรถ

เราตระหนักว่าด้วยจำนวนนักเรียนที่เพิ่มขึ้นทำให้ลานจอดรถมีรถเพิ่มมากขึ้น ทางโรงเรียนต้องขออภัยในความไม่สะดวกและหวังว่าหากทุกคนคิดถึงผู้อื่นและปฏิบัติตามกฎจะทำให้ผลกระทบในด้านไม่ดีน้อยลง

ทางโรงเรียนขอความกรุณาทุกท่านโปรดฟังและปฏิบัติตามคำขอของพนักงานรักษาความปลอดภัย เช่น เวลาที่พนักงานขอให้ท่านเลื่อนรถของท่าน และเรายังได้พบปัญหาอีกกรณีหนึ่งในวันนี้ เมื่อผู้ปกครองจอดรถเพื่อส่งนักเรียนที่หน้าประตูโรงเรียน กรณีนี้ส่งผลให้รถติดไปถึงถนนใหญ่และยังเป็นการกีดขวางให้รถคันอื่นไม่สามารถเข้าและออกได้ และยังทำให้รถโรงเรียนที่จะต้องนำนักเรียนไปว่ายน้ำล่าช้าไป 20 นาที

โรงเรียนเริ่มเวลา 08.00 น.สำหรับนักเรียนชั้น Year 3ขึ้นไปในเทอม 2

นักเรียนตั้งแต่ระดับชั้น Year 3 ไปจนถึงระดับชั้นมัธยมศึกษาจะต้องเข้าโฮมรูมเวลา 08.00 น. ไม่เช่นนั้นนักเรียนจะพลาดข่าวสาร ข้อมูลสำคัญจากครูประจำชั้น ช่วงเวลาโฮมรูมเป็นเวลาที่ครูประจำชั้นจะได้พบปะพูดคุยกับนักเรียนในชั้นเรียน เพราะฉะนั้นทางโรงเรียนจึงจะเปลี่ยนเวลาเริ่มเรียนเป็น 8.00 น.ในเทอม 2 แต่จะเริ่มฝึกซ้อมเพื่อปรับเวลาในช่วงครึ่งเทอมหลังของเทอม 1 สำหรับนักเรียนที่ใช้บริการรถโรงเรียน ทางโรงเรียนจะไม่เปลี่ยนเวลาจนกว่าจะเทอม 2

1 ในความรับผิดชอบของผมในฐานะผู้อำนวยการฝ่ายวิชาการคือความมั่นใจว่าเด็กนักเรียนทุกๆคนจะได้รับโอกาสอันดีเยี่ยมในหลักสูตรการเรียนการสอนในระดับสูงสุด ผมสามารถที่จะจัดระบบการเรียนการสอนต่างๆเหล่านี้ให้กับนักเรียนทั้งโรงเรียนให้อยู่ในระดับเดียวกับมหาวิทยาลัเคมบริดจ์ หรือ มาตรฐานระดับชาติของประเทศอังกฤษ สิ่งต่างๆเหล่านี้ได้นำมาใช้การเด็กนักเรียนทุกๆคนและผลลัพธ์ออกมาเป็นที่น่าพอใจมาก

ตามกฎหมายไทยได้ระบุไว้ว่าเด็กนักเรียนทุกๆคนจะต้องเข้าห้องเรียนไม่ต่ำกว่า 80% ของเวลาเรียนปกติตลอดทั้งปีการศึกษา ไม่อย่างนั้นนักเรียนคนนั้นไม่สามารถที่จะข้ามขึ้นไประดับชั้นต่อไปได้ ที่โรงเรียนานาชาติเฮดสตาร์ทก็ต้องปฏิบัติตามกฎหมายฉบับนี้เช่นเดียวกัน

เด็กนักเรียนที่เข้าห้องเรียนต่ำกว่า 80% จะต้องซ้ำชั้นในระดับเดิม ยกเว้นว่าการขาดเรียนนั้นๆได้ถูกพิจารณาจากฝ่ายที่เกี่ยวข้องว่ามีเหตุอันสมควรเป็นแต่ละกรณีไป เช่น การเจ็บป่วยทุกครั้งจะต้องมีพยายามแจ้งให้ทราบทุกครั้ง

นักเรียนทุกๆคนจะต้องมีเอกสารยืนยันการขาดเรียนว่าขาดเรียนเพราะอะไรจากผู้ปกครองหรือผู้ดูแล ซึ่งเอกสารเหล่านี้จะถูกเก็บรักษาไว้ที่โรงเรียนในกรณีที่มีการเจ็บป่วยจริง การพลาดขึ้นรถโรงเรียน ตื่นสาย หรือ วันหยุดของครอบครัว จะถูกนับเป็นการมาสายหรือขาดเรียนตามแต่กรณี

สิ่งเหล่านี้จะมีผลกระทบกับเด็กนักเรียนบางคนเท่านั้น ซึ่งเด็กนักเรียนส่วนใหญ่ก็ปฏิบัติตามกฎ ระเบียบของโรงเรียนเรียบร้อยดีอยู่แล้ว

ที่โรงเรียนนานาชาติเฮดสตาร์ท เราพยายามสร้างความสัมพันธ์ที่ดีให้เกิดขึ้นระหว่างคุณครู นักเรียน และ ผู้ปกครอง เพื่อจะช่วยกันแยกความแตกต่างของคำว่าการขาดเรียน หรือ ว่า นักเรียน”ป่วย”แต่สามารถไปเล่นอยู่ที่หาด รวมถึงการไม่รับผิดชอบงานที่ได้รับมอบหมาย ซึ่งสิ่งเหล่านี้จะไม่เกิดขึ้นภายในโรงเรียนเป็นอันขาด

ขอขอบพระคุณผู้ปกครองและนักเรียนทุกๆท่านที่ช่วยกันทำให้โรงเรียนนานาชาติเฮดสตาร์ทกลายเป็น 1 ในทางเลือกหลักของโรงเรียนนานาชาติในประเทศไทย

การขาดเรียน – จาก Mr.Goodman

หากบุตร หลานของท่านขาดเรียน ควรส่งอีเมล์แจ้งครูประจำชั้นหรือโทรไปแจ้งที่เจ้าหน้าที่ธุรการ เมื่อกลับมาโรงเรียนกรุณาเตรียมจดหมายจากผู้ปกครองเพื่อมอบให้ครูประจำชั้น หากไม่ได้รับจดหมายทางโรงเรียนจะขออนุญาตโทรติดต่อผู้ปกครอง และหากบุตรหลานของท่านขาดเรียนโดยไม่มีเหตุผล ทางโรงเรียนจะลงข้อมูลว่านักเรียนขาดเรียนโดยไม่ได้รับอนุญาต

หลักการปฏิบัติเกี่ยวกับการบ้านและการเรียน แบบปฏิบัติการ – จาก Mr.Goodman

หากนักเรียนลืมส่งการบ้านหรือส่งแล้วไม่ตรงตามวัตถุประสงค์ คุณครูจะกำหนดวันส่งการบ้านอีกครั้ง ถ้ายังไม่ส่งการบ้าน นักเรียนจะต้องมาโรงเรียนในวันเสาร์เพื่อทำการบ้านและส่งให้เรียบร้อยตั้งแต่เวลา 09.00 น. – 11.00 น. ซึ่งทางโรงเรียนจะส่งอีเมล์แจ้งไปยังผู้ปกครองเพื่อให้นำนักเรียนและนักเรียนจะต้องแต่งการชุดนักเรียน

ภาพกิจกรรมฟุตบอลของนักเรียนชั้นมัธยม

เปลี่ยนแปลงตารางการฝึกซ้อมบาสเก็ตบอล โดยแผนกพละศึกษา

เพื่อให้เกิดความสะดวกสำหรับนักเรียนที่ฝึกบาสเก็ตบอล ทางแผนกได้จัดตารางการฝึกซ้อมใหม่ โดยจะเริ่มใช้ ณ วันที่ 28 ตุลาคม 2556 จนถึง เดือน ธันวาคม 2556 ดังนี้

ข่าวสาร แผนกภาษาอังกฤษ

แผนกภาษาอังกฤษ เปิดให้มีโปรแกรมการอ่านหนังสือในวันจันทร์ โดยนักเรียนทุกคนในระดับชั้นป.6 – ม.2 จะมีหนังสือสำหรับพวกเขาเพื่ออ่าน และ ครูภาษาอังกฤษ จะเป็นผู้สังเกตุและติดตามผล ซึ่งนักเรียนแต่ละคนจะมีใบรายงานการอ่าน

โดยทางโรงเรียนขอความร่วมมือให้ทางผู้ปกครอง ช่วยฟังบุตรหลานของท่านอ่านหนังสือ หรือ เมื่อสังเกตุเห็นว่านักเรียนมีการอ่านหนังสือ แล้วลงชื่อในใบรายงานการอ่าน และเพื่อเป็นการจูงใจให้เกิดการอ่านมากขึ้น ซึ่งในแต่ละเทอม จะมีการมอบรางวัลมอบให้แก่นักเรียนชาย และนักเรียนหญิง ในแต่ละระดับชั้นที่อ่านหนังสือได้จำนวนมากที่สุด

ผมรู้สึกตื่นเต้นและมีกำลังใจมาก ที่จะได้เห็นนักเรียนหลายๆคน อ่านหนังสือระหว่างช่วงเวลาพัก และ ช่วงอาหารกลางวัน
