Important Updates

International Day Update

As we approach International Day 2014 we are excited to see so many different nationalities preparing for this event! There are numerous bookings for on stage performances as well as preparations for displays and food tastings from our very diverse community! There will be a live radio broadcast from 89.5 FM and the Phuket News as well as a few surprises along the way. We look forward to seeing it all come together on the 28th of March from 4:00-8:00 pm at FunStart.

Here are a few important notes about the event that you should take note of:

• All classes, including Secondary, will end at 3:00 pm. Please pick up your children promptly and prepare for International Day. - All After School classes will be cancelled on the 28th of March so that families and teachers will have the time to organize transport as well as prepare costumes, food and displays on time. - We apologise for the inconvenience but there will be no school bus service on the 28th of March due to a demand for staff on hand for International Day. - As you may have to park far away from the entrance we will provide a bus service around the Chalekelee Moo Bahn for your convenience. - There will be Life Guards on duty so that children can swim in the FunStart swimming pool. We will require all swimmers to exit the pool at 6:00 pm, once it gets dark, for safety reasons.

Reminder about Parent Surveys

We would like to thank all of the parents and guardians who have taken part in the Parent Survey and would like to also remind all of the parents, who have not participated yet, to please take the time to fill out the Parent Survey that can be found in front of the upstairs office.

Swimming Pool Maintenance

We have had to cancel swimming lessons this week due to maintenance being done on the pool. We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused to classes scheduled to swim during the week, as well as to the after school programmes. We hope the pool will be ready for the coming week.

We Want Your Blood!

**It became apparent after Dean’s accident that there is an urgent and constant need for blood. On Monday 31st March from 1pm - 4pm the Thai Red Cross will have a mobile blood bank at Makro, opposite school. Please sign up for this if you think you can help.

Year 1A Pushes and Pulls by Cathy Coles, Year 1 Teacher **

Year 1 A experimented with force by pushing and pulling. They felt the force between each other whilst doing different exercises. They also sang action songs, identified those movements and made a balloon rocket.

Year 2B Says Goodbye by Julie Cousineau, Year 2B Teacher

Year 2B said goodbye to two lovely girls this week. Elena Schved is moving away to Cyprus with her family. She will be missed for her enthusiasm and witty input to class discussions. Mila Choremi is moving to Switzerland for the term, but will join us again in Year 3. We love her sweet nature and will miss her a lot as well. We wish both families a safe journey to their new countries.

Field Trip to Rubber Plantation by Katja Clark and Pandora Dufes, Year 3 Teachers**

This week, Year Three visited the Phuket Agricultural Research and Development Centre in Thalang. This is a working rubber plantation and the children were shown how the rubber is tapped from the tree and then processed ready for sale. They enjoyed painting animals made of rubber from the plantation.

Year 4A Get Jig-y by Claire Smyth, Year 4A Teacher**

**Year 4A learned to Irish dance as part of their St Patrick’s Day celebrations! The class performed their jigs in a céilí with traditional Irish music.

Year 4A Celebrate Paddy’s Day ** by Claire Smyth, Year 4 Teacher

To celebrate the patron saint of Ireland, St Patrick, year 4A wore shamrock badges for the day and decorated pictures of themselves as leprechauns! Leprechauns are one of Ireland’s many mythical creatures and legend has it they will lead you to a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow! Stop looking at him for a moment, however, and he will be gone as quick as he came!

Pollock’s Influence in Year 5A by Heidi St. Hill, Year 5 Teacher

Year 5A has been learning about famous American artists in project this month. After learning about works by Jackson Pollock, Edward Hopper, Georgia O’Keefe and Andy Warhol, discussing the styles and discovering who the artists were, the students got to try creating some art themselves. Using Pollock’s active painting style as inspiration, the students splattered and sprayed paint all over until enough was left on the page. Sweaty, messy and a lot of fun!

Amnesty International Young Journalist Award Writing Competition by Richard Thézé, English Teacher

The Regent’s School Pattaya and Amnesty International Thailand recently hosted the 2013-14 Young Journalist of the Year Award. Over 20 international schools took part.

Amnesty International has always been keen to encourage young people to get involved and journalism plays a key role in exposing human rights abuses. Journalists are crucial in the battle to protect and promote human rights across the globe.

Supporting young writers in standing up for the rights of others has been an important lesson for four of our students who submitted articles to the writing competition. Each was shortlisted and invited to attend the Finalists’ Day in Bangkok on Friday, March 14th.

Azra Anderson and Luba Omelchecko were awarded finalist certificates in the Under 14 category and Haki Kim and Zoey Ezendam received finalist certificates in the Under 18 category. Azra Anderson also received a certificate for 4th place in the Under 18 winners category.

Thanyapura Superkidz Triathlon 8th of March 2014 by Stephen Kettley, PE Teacher**

HeadStart had nineteen students (along with their parents) brave the early start to participate in another excellent event held at Thanyapura. The pleasing aspect of this Triathlon was the number of students that rose to the challenge and chose to participate individually, rather than as part of a team, and complete all three legs of the event (swim, cycle and run). There were some excellent results with the Panthers 4 team getting amongst the trophies in the 7 – 8 teams event and Lucy Mester and the Panthers 2 and 5 teams just missing out with 4th place finishes. Congratulations to all who participated on their excellent efforts and thank-you to all the parents that supported and encouraged their children’s participation. See you at the next one.

A special congratulations to Reception A students Yim and Louise who completed their first Biathlon (swim and run) on the weekend. What a great effort at this age – well done!!!!

PIADS Swimming Meet – Thanyapura 19th March 2014 by Stephen Kettley, PE Teacher

In spite of a less than ideal preparation (no pool activity due for a week due to a problem with the pool at FunStart), and a couple of our better swimmers being unavailable, the team performed incredibly well. For many this event represented some firsts:

• their first competition in a 50m pool - their first time swimming competitively over 50m and 100m - their first time using starting blocks and - their first experience with touch timing.

There were some exceptional performances across all areas including:

• Eva Erdenko (4A) , Sebastian Sawtell (5B), Emmie Parsons (6A), Juno Wannakitti (6B), Shane Walters (5B), Jiraya Prieur (8B) and Aria Ekasilapa (8A) who all competed in the very tough 200m Individual Medley - Jasmine Hull (3A): 3 seconds and 2 thirds in the Under 7 girls - Sebastian Sawtell (5B): 3 firsts, 2 seconds and 2 thirds in Under 9 boys - Juno Wannakitti (6B): 3 firsts, 2 seconds and 2 thirds in Under 10 boys.

This event was the perfect preparation for swimmers nominated to swim in the International Event at Thanyapura next week-end (29th and 30th of March). Congratulations to the following for their excellent efforts in what was an extremely successful event. I will publish results and times once they have been provided by PIADS.

การซ่อมแซมสระว่ายน้ำ

ทางโรงเรียนของยกเลิกการเรียนการสอนว่ายน้ำในสัปดาห์นี้ รวมทั้งการเรียนการสอนว่ายน้ำหลังเลิกเรียนด้วย อันเนื่องมาทางโรงเรียนได้จัดการซ่อมแซมสระว่ายน้ำ จนกว่าจะซ่อมแซมเสร็จ ซึ่งน่าจะเสร็จภายในสัปดาห์หน้านี้ ทางโรงเรียนต้องขออภัยในความไม่สะดวกในครั้งนี้ด้วย

Year1A กับกิจกรรม การผลักและดึง

นักเรียนY1 กับการทดลองออกกำลังกายแบบใหม่ ผลักและดึง เขาจะได้รับรู้ความรู้สึกกดดันนั้นเป็นการออกกำลังกายในแบบที่แตกต่างออกไป ทั้งร้องทั้งเต้นและการเคลื่อนไหวและรวมตัวกันเป็นเสมือนก้อนหินลูกใหญ่ๆ

ลาก่อนสมาชิกเพื่อน Y2

ต้องลาแล้ว สองเด็กน้อยที่แสนน่ารักของเราในชั้นY2B น้อง เอเลน่า และ มิล่า น้อง เอเลน่าจะต้องย้ายไปอยู่ไซปรัสกับครอบครัว เราคงคิดถึงเธอ เด็กน้อยผู้มีความกระตือรือร้น ฉลาดและมีไหวพริบ ส่วน มิล่า กำลังจะเดินทางไปอยู่ที่สวิสเซอร์แลนด์ แต่ว่าจะกลับมาใหม่อีกครั้งในY 3 พวกเราคงต้องคิดถึงทั้งคู่เป็นอย่างมากแต่ยังไงก็ขอให้เดินทางโดยสวัสดิภาพ

**Year 4A ร่วมฉลองวัน paddy **เป็นงานที่จัดขึ้นเพื่อระลึกถึงนักบุญชาวไอริชชื่อ St Patrick และยังได้ติดสัญลักษณ์ดอก shamrock ทั้งยังร่วมกันทำภาพที่ตกแต่งด้วยตัวเอง เช่น leprechauns! Leprechauns ที่เป็นหนึงในตำนานเทพนิยายของไอซ์แลนด์ ที่เชื่อกันว่า เขาจะพาคุณไปยังขุมทรัพย์ที่เต็มไปด้วยทองคำที่ปลายทางของสายรุ้งจับตาดูเขาให้ดีนะเพราะว่าเค้ามาเร็วและก็หายไปเร็วมากเช่นกัน

อิทธิพลของPollockที่มีแต่Y5A

เดือนนี้นักเรียนชั้น Year 5A ได้เรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับศิลปินที่มีชื่อเสียงของ อเมริกา และหลังจากที่ได้เรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับผลงานของ Jackson Pollock, Edward Hopper, Georgia O’Keefe and Andy Warhol แล้ว ทำให้เราได้เห็นว่าผลงานที่แสดงออกมานั้นได้แสดงให้เห็นความเป็นตัวตนของเขา หลังจากนั้นนักเรียนก็ได้รังสรรค์งานของตัวเองโดยใช้การวาดและระบายสีเหมือนกับ Pollock เพื่อเอามาสร้างแรงบันดาลใจ ทั้งสาดสี สเปรย์ จนได้ผลงานที่ทั้ง เปียก แฉะ ชื้น แต่สนุกมากมาย

ผลการแข่งขันการใช้ทักษะการเขียนทางภาษาอังกฤษ

จากที่มีการจัดการแข่งขันการใช้ทักษาการเขียนในภาษาอังกฤษโดยมีโรงเรียนนานาชาติได้เข้าร่วมกว่า 20 โรงเรียน ซึ่งจัดขึ้นโดยThe Regent’s School Pattaya and Amnesty International Thailand ก็ได้ประกาศผลออกมาแล้ว สมาคมนักข่าวได้จัดให้วัยรุ่นได้มีโอกาสแสดงความคิดเห็นผ่านการเขียนเนื่องในโอกาสว่าถ้าหากว่าเขาได้เป็นนักข่าว เขาจะเขียนอย่างไรที่ถูกต้องเพื่อเป็นการต่อสู้และป้องกันหรือแม้แต่เชิดชูเพื่อนมนุษย์ด้วยกัน

และในการแข่งขันครั้งนี้นักเรียนของโรงเรียนเรา 4 คนที่ได้ผ่านเข้ารอบการแข่งขันรอบสุดท้ายที่จัดขึ้นที่กรุงเทพ เมื่อวันที่ 14 มีนาคม 2014 และผลการแข่งขันก็ออกดังนี้

ขอแสดงความยินดีกับ Azra Anderson and LubaOmelchecko ผู้ได้รับประกาศนียบัตรนักเขียนในรุ่นอายุต่ำกว่า 14 ปี และ Haki Kim and ZoeyEzendamได้รับใบประกาศนียบัตรนักเขียนในรุ่นอายุต่ำกว่า 18 ปี นอกจากนี้แล้ว Azra Anderson ยังได้รับรางวัลชนะเลิศอันดับที่ 4 ในการแข่งขันครั้งนี้ด้วย
