The Homeroom teachers will be sending home PICTURE AND VIDEO RELEASE FORMS for you to sign regarding the use of photos and videos that are taken of the students during their school days. Please read the information carefully and return the document to your child’s Homeroom teacher once you have filled it out.
More information regarding the school’s picture taking policy will appear in next week’s update.

Friendly Reminder to Parents
Dear parents,
Please make sure that you supervise your children in the playground after school. We don’t have staff on duty at the playground after 3 pm. Students, regardless of their age, shouldn’t be in the playground unsupervised. The playground is built for students up to year 4, older students should use the other facilities such as the basketball court or the library.

Early Years Visits the Botanic Gardens by Anisa van der Laan, Early Years Teacher
Last week Early Years A and B went for a visit to the Phuket Botanic Gardens. The children practised using their ‘5 senses’ while they explored all the many sights, smells, textures and sounds everywhere. From the Herbal Garden to the Orchard, and the Rice Fields to the Winter Garden, they got to see things both familiar as well as new. They asked many questions and seemed to enjoy the experience.
Reception B On The Farm! by Laura Rutherford, Reception B Teacher
Reception B have been looking at ‘the farm’ as a theme this week. The children worked really hard with the art teacher Kru Zone to make their very own farmyard out of a recycled cardboard box! Here they are enjoying playing with it!

Year 1 Learns about Australia by Laura Anne Baillie, Year 1B Teacher
Year 1 have been learning about Australia as part of our projects work. We looked in our suitcase and guessed where we might be going … Australia! We then made passports and flight tickets and we queued at the airport ready to find our seat on board the plane. We took off and landed in Australia where we learned about Australian animals, dream time stories, didgeridoos and much more!

Australia Presentation Year 3 by Pandora Dufes, Year 3A Teacher**
Last Friday, Year Three were treated to a presentation by guest speakers from Australia: intrepid travellers, Mr Tony and Mr Brett. The children have been learning about Australia during project time and Mr Tony gave them lots of interesting information about the landscape and animals of Australia.
Year 3 Learns About Bridges by Katja Clark, Year 3B Teacher
Y3B have been learning about the materials bridges are made from and the strongest shape for bridges. They tested different shapes to see which is the strongest.
Year 4 Learns About Australia by Ashley Bross, Year 4B Teacher
As part of our monthly project, Year 4B learned about Australian Aboriginal art and made dot paintings.
Year 6B Studies Volcanoes by Kevin Reynolds, Year 6B Teacher
As part of our work in Humanities and ICT, pupils of 6B erupted with joy when they were asked to bring in iPads, laptops and other tablets to support our work on volcanos. Having already studied the ferocious Etna, unforgiving Vesuvius and super-volcano in Yellowstone National Park, USA, the children were allowed to choose their own volcano to focus their research on. The research was then used to create PowerPoint presentations of their chosen volcano, which were presented to the rest of the class.

Science Experiments in Year 7! by Rachael Mayfield, Secondary Science Teacher
Year 7 are looking at decay and micro-organisms. In biology we are carrying out an experiment to see which fries decay faster. K.F.C or regular restaurant fries. Stay tuned for the results!
In biology, Year 7 have been looking at the effect temperature has on the rate of respiration in yeast. Excellent practical skills Year 7…. well done!
Richard Thézé Receives CPD Certification
I recently passed my Continuous Professional Development (CPD) course and now have a certificate in Learning Support.
The course, which was provided by CPD College, Ireland, was completed online and lasted for twenty hours. I am delighted to have gained a qualification to enable me to help students with Special Educational Needs and Learning Disorders.
Entrepreneurship Year 8B by Rachel Mayfield, Year 7B Teacher
Year 8B have started their business ideas in homeroom. Groups have started to make their own crafts to sell at the end of Term Two. We have got a long way to go, but we’re making an impressive start. Go year 8B!

Khun Lertrat Visits Year 8 by****Khru Nee
Last week, Khun Lertrat, a Thai parent, joined the Year 8 Thai class and shared his experience about Thai customs. The topic is related to the lesson entitled ‘Thai Idioms’. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to be with our students.

In an effort to improve Thai education, Kru Nid has been teaching Y1-Y4 Thai class using many different kinds of activities such as: morality stories, and singing and dancing Thai action songs.
Year 11 Thai Class Visits the Rawai Fisherman’s Village.
This week the Year 11 Thai class went on a fieldtrip to the Rawai fisherman’s village and explored the lives of fishermen. They experienced things like the living conditions, seafood, shopping for pearl shop souvenirs, and fishing. The students will be writing an essay about their visit.

Chinese New Year by Honglian Wang (Aileen), Mandarin Teacher
Jan 31 is the day of the New Year on the Chinese lunar calendar this year. 2014 is the year of the horse. Those born under this year are supposed to be energetic, clever, cheerful, and kind to others.
Our Chinese class held activities during week 20 (Jan 27- Jan 31, 2014) to celebrate Chinese New Year. During our home made Chinese New year activities, students learned Chinese New Year traditions: making and tasting Chinese spring rolls together, experiencing the handkerchief dance, the red silk dance and round silk fan painting, making New Year decorations and red envelopes, etc. The Year 11 student’s trip to a local Chinese restaurant was also a great experience to enjoy the traditional New Year’s feast. Everyone was having fun and enjoying the most important Chinese Festival.

เคล็ดลับสำหรับผู้ปกครอง
สำหรับในสัปดาห์ที่สามที่ผ่านมา ผมได้ลงเสนอบทความในอินเตอร์เน็ต ซึ่งเป็นที่ที่รวบรวมความรู้ของข้อคิดคติคำสอนหรือแม้แต่เกร็ดความรู้ต่างๆ หรือแม้แต่ องค์ความรู้ต่างๆที่น่าติดตาม นั้นมันเป็นอะไรที่น่าสนใจมากสำหรับผมเอง แต่ทว่า คติคำสอนเหล่านั้นมันเป็นคำสอนที่ส่งต่อกันมาในรูปแบบของขนบธรรมเนียมที่เกิดขึ้นจากการพร่ำสอนกันจากปากต่อปากจากคนรุ่นหลัง แต่ดูเหมือนว่าคติคำสอนเหล่านี้จะมีมากมายให้เกลื่อนกลาดเต็มไปหมดในอินเตอร์เน็ต
นั้นมันทำให้ผมคิดมองในมุมกลับว่าคติคำสอนของสังคมในปัจจุบันนี้ เหมือนเด็กคนหนึ่ง ที่ผมเคยได้สอนทั้งที่บ้านและที่โรงเรียนให้เขาใช้หัวหน่อย คือให้เขาให้ความสำคัญกับสิ่งที่จะทำ คือ สอนให้พิจารณาและไตร่ตรองให้ดีกับการที่จะทำการในสิ่งที่ทำให้มาก มากกว่าที่จะใช้อารมณ์ การศึกษาในสมัยนี้มันเป็นรูปแบบการศึกษาของเมื่อศตวรรษที่แล้ว ซึ่งผมก็เชื่อว่ามีสอนกันอย่างแพร่หลายในปัจจุบันนี้ คือ สอนให้นักเรียนเป็นคนฉลาดและมีความรู้ แต่ไม่ได้สอนให้นักเรียนได้รู้วิธีการที่จะให้เขาได้รู้ว่าทำอย่างไรของถึงจะเอาความฉลาดและความรู้ที่เขามีอยู่ออกมาใช้ได้ นี้มันเป็นอะไรที่สำคัญมากที่ครูและผู้ปกครองควรที่จะให้ความสำคัญกับสิ่งนี้ในการสอนให้ความรู้ ไม่ใช่แค่เพียงสอนเพื่อให้สามารถจดจำ ท่องอ่านได้ หรือให้จำได้เพียงเพื่อเป็นพิธี แต่ในความที่ควรจะเป็นนั้น เด็กสมควรที่จะไม่ใช่แค่เพียงว่าต้องรู้หรือเข้าใจความหมายหรือความสำคัญของสิ่งนั้นๆ แต่เขาตัองรู้ว่าเขาเอาความรู้ที่เขามีอยู่นำมาใช้ให้เกิดประโยชน์ได้อย่างไร
การรับรู้เพียงอย่างเดียวไม่เพียงพอที่จะทำให้เกิดความรู้และเป็นที่แน่นอนว่านั้นก็ไม่ได้เป็นการยืนยันว่า การรับรู้มากมายจะทำให้กลายเป็นผู้ที่ประสบความสำเร็จ, มีความสุข หรือว่า จะเป็นคนที่มีพฤติกรรมที่เห็นแก่ตัว ความรู้เป็นอะไรที่มีความหมายที่ลึกซึ้งมากว่านั้น ซึ่งอาจพูดได้ในความหมายนี้ดีกว่า ที่ว่า คติ คำสอนเป็นความรู้ที่จะเป็นเสมือนสิ่งที่จะนำพาเราให้ไปสู่เส้นชัย เพราะว่า คำสอนเหล่านี้จะให้เราทั้งในด้านให้คำปรึกษาว่าจะต้องทำอย่างไรบนวิถีทางแห่งการใช้ความคิด และพิจารณา ตลอดจนการนำเอาความยุติธรรมเข้ามาร่วมด้วยในการให้การอธิบายและตัดสินใจ คนคนหนึ่งไม่สามารถจะเป็นคนที่ฉลาดได้ ในขณะที่ถูกกดดัน ขาดสติ หรือมีจิตใจที่เลวทรามและเลือกเดินในวิถีทางนั่นที่เขาและเธอได้เลือกแล้ว ยิ่งไปกว่านั้น คติคำสอนที่เป็นความรู้ยังนำเสนอแนะให้เราได้กระทำในสิ่งที่ดี ที่ถูก ที่ควร สร้างและทำในสิ่งที่ดีที่สุด มากกว่าที่จะประโลมโลกเพื่อให้มีความสามัคคีปรองดอง เพราะ เด็กในวันนี้จะโตเป็นผู้ใหญ่และเป็นผู้ปกครองและผู้นำในวันข้างหน้า และเขาก็จะกลายเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของสังคมขนาดใหญ่ที่ต้องอยู่รวมกัน ด้วยเหตุนี้จึงจำเป็นอย่างยิ่งว่าเขาทั้งหลายจึงควรที่จะเรียนรู้ถึงผลของการกระทำที่ถูกต้องอยู่เสมอ ละเอียดละออ ทั้งยังต้องประพฤติตัวให้เป็นแบบอย่างที่ดีสำหรับครอบครังของเขาเองและชุมชน
แก่นแท้ของคำสอนไม่ใช่แค่เพียงต้องการสอนให้เราคิดอะไร แต่ที่สำคัญมากกว่านั้นคือ เราจะต้องทำอย่างไรจะแสดงออกมาอย่างไร มันเป็นการสอนที่ทำให้รู้ว่าจะต้องทำอย่างไรที่จะใช้สิ่งที่เราได้เรียนรู้มามาทำให้เกิดประโยชน์สูงสุดและดี โรงเรียนควรสอนให้ได้เรียนรู้ในหลักความสัมพันธ์ ที่เรียกว่า the four Rsคือ เคารพ (Respect), รับผิดชอบ(Responsibility), ความสัมพันธ์ซึ่งกันและกัน (Reciprocity), มีความยืดหยุ่น (Resiliency) ไม่ใช่สอนให้รู้เพียงแค่ 3Rsซึ่ง Rในข้อที่4นั้นเป็นจุดเริ่มต้นของความรับผิดชอบ (Responsibility)
หากว่าฉันจะสามารถเขียนบางอย่างให้ลูกของคุณเองด้วยคำแค่2คำ สิ่งที่ฉันจะเขียนคือ Seek wisdom

ครูประจำชั้นจะแจกเอกสารแบบฟอร์มการขออนุญาตถ่ายภาพและบันทึกวีดิโอให้กับนักเรียนเพื่อให้นักเรียนนำเอกสารนี้ไปให้กับผู้ปกครองได้อ่านเพื่อพิจารณาเซ็นอนุญาตหรือไม่ในการที่ทางโรงเรียนจะทำการถ่ายภาพและบันทึกวีดิโอบุตรหลานของท่านในระหว่างคาบเรียนและการทำกิจกรรมเพื่อนำมาเผยแพร่เพื่อเป็นการแนะนำโรงเรียน ขอความกรุณาในการอ่านรายละเอียดในเอกสารของทางโรงเรียนให้ละเอียดและกรอกข้อความตามวัตถุประสงค์ของท่านแล้วส่งเอกสารนี้กลับมายังทางโรงเรียน

Early Years เยี่ยมชม the Botanic Garden
สัปดาห์ที่แล้ว ทางโรงเรียนได้พาชั้น Early Years A and B ไปทัศนศึกษาเยี่ยมชม The Phuket Botanic Garden เพื่อให้นักเรียนได้ฝึกการเรียนรู้ในเรื่องการใช้ประสาทสัมผัสทั้ง 5 ในการศึกษาเรียนรู้สิ่งรอบตัว ไม่ว่าจะเป็นการสัมผัสทางตา มองดู การสัมผัสกลิ่นโดยการสูดดม การฟังเสียง และการจับต้อง สัมผัส จากสิ่งต่างรอบๆตัวในสวนสมุนไพร The Ochard และนาข้าวใน the Winter Garden เด็กๆได้ดูสวนทั้งสองที่มีความคล้ายคลึงกันแต่ก็ถือได้ว่าเป็นประสบการณ์ที่ดีและแปลกใหม่สำหรับเด็ก ซึ่งจากกิจกรรมนี้ทำให้เด็กมีความสุขและสนุกมาก พวกเขามีคำถามตลอดช่วงระยะเวลาที่เข้าเยี่ยมชมเลย แน่นอนพวกเขามีความสุขมาก
Reception B กับไร่นาของพวกเขา**
หัวข้อเรื่องของชิ้นงานในครั้งนี้คือ “ไร่นา” ในชั่วโมงนี้นักเรียนได้ประดิฐษ์งานศิลปะภายใต้การดูแลคุณครูโซน โดยนักเรียนได้ทำและออกแบบผลงานของตัวเองที่ทำจากกล่องกระดาษรีไซเคิล อย่างขมักเขม้น และนี่ไง ผลงานที่แสนจะน่าทึ่งของเขาทั้งหลาย…….ว้าว…..

Year 1เรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับออสเตเลีย
หัวข้อการเรียนรู้ Year 1 ในครั้งนี้คือ เรื่องราวเกี่ยวกับ ออสเตรเลีย ได้เวลาเตรียมกระเป๋าตรวจดูสำภาระสำหรับที่จะไป….นั้นไง ออสเตรเลีย จากนั้นก็ ทำพาสปอร์ต จองตั๋ว ทุกอย่างพร้อมแล้ว ถึงเวลาเดินทาง และแล้ว เราเดินทางมาถึงออสเตรเลีย ที่ซึ่งเราจะได้รับการเรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับสัตว์ต่างๆ, เล่านิทานก่อนนอน, เล่นดนตรีพื้นเมือง didgeridoos และอีกมากมาย
เรียนรู้เรื่องราวของออสเตรเลียกับสื่อการเรียนของ Y3
วันศุกร์ที่ผ่านมาทางโรงเรียนได้นำเสนอการเรียนการสอนเกี่ยวกับออสเตรเลียการฉายภาพนิ่งพร้อมทั้งฟังบรรยายจากนักท่องเที่ยวผู้ที่ได้เดินทางไปทั่วออสเตรเลีย Mr. Tony และ Mr. Breet ซึ่งได้ถ่ายทอดเรื่องราวประสบการณ์การเดินทางให้กับนักเรียน Y3 ทำให้เด็กได้รับความรู้ ขนาดของสัตว์ต่างๆ ที่อาศัยอยู่ในออสเตรเลีย
Year 3 กับการเรียนรู้การเป็นวิศวกรตัวน้อย
นักเรียนชั้น Year 3B ได้เรียนรู้การออกแบบในการสร้างสะพานและการเลือกวัสดุที่จะนำมาสร้างสะพานนอกจากนี้แล้วยังได้เรียนรู้ด้วยว่าการก่อสร้างในรูปแบบรูปทรงไหนที่ให้ความแข็งแรงให้กับสะพานมากที่สุด โดยเด็กจะได้ทดลองสร้างสะพานด้วยตัวของเขาเองในแบบรูปทรงต่างๆแล้วทดสอบความแข็งแรงดู อนาคตวิศวกรอยู่แค่เอื้อมแล้ว
**Year 4 กับหัวข้อการเรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับออสเตรเลีย **
ในระดับนี้เราให้นักเรียนได้เรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับชนเผ่าแอบบอรอจิน โดยการทำศิลปวาดภาพโดยการใช้สีทำจุดๆ จนเป็นภาพ

การทดลองทางวิทยาศาสตร์ของเหล่านักเรียน Y7
ในชั่วโมงการเรียนชีววิทยา นักเรียน Y7 ได้ทดลองเรื่องการย่อยสลายและการย่อยสลายในระดับเซลล์ ทั้งนี้นักเรียนได้ดูและสังเกตุผลการเปลี่ยนแปลงการความคุมกระบวนการการทำให้ทอดสุกอย่างรวดเร็วของ KFC. การทอดที่ทำให้สุกตามแบบของร้านอาหารทั้วไป ทั้งยังได้ศึกษาเรื่องอุณหภูมิที่มีผลต่อกระบวนการการหายในระดับเซลล์ของยีสซ์ ช่างเป็นการฝึกฝนความรู้ความสามารถที่ยอดเยี่ยมจริงๆ เยี่ยมมากมาก

วันที่ 31 มกราคมปีนี้นับตามจันทรคติแล้ว ปีนี้เป็นปีม้า ดังนั้นผู้ที่เกิดในช่วงปีนี้จึงเป็นผู้ที่มีพลัง ฉลาด ร่าเริงและมีความเมตตากรุณาแก่คนรอบข้าง
สำหรับเทศกาลตรุษจีน ทางภาควิชาภาษาจีนได้จัดกิจกรรมระหว่างสัปดาห์ที่ 20 ( 27 -31 มกราคม 2557) เพื่อเป็นการร่วมเฉลิมฉลองเทศกาลตรุษจีน (ปีใหม่จีน) โดยการที่เราได้จัดให้นักเรียนได้เรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับขนบธรรมเนียม ตลอดจนทำอาหารที่เรียกว่า เปาะเปี๊ยะทอด อีกทั้งกิจกรรมการเต้นรำผ้าเช็ดหน้า การรำผ้าแดง และทาสีพัด ตลอดทั้งตกแต่งซองจดหมายสีแดง และอีกมากมาย นอกจากนี้นักเรียนในชั้น Year 11 ยังได้ออกไปทานอาหารจีนพื้นเมืองที่ร้านอาหารจีน ซึ่งถือได้ว่าเป็นประสบการณ์ที่แสนสนุกกับการที่เราได้รับจากเทศกาลตรุษจีน ทุกคนมีความสุขกับเทศกาลที่สำคัญตามประเพณีจีนนี้
