Exam Revision Guides
Revision guides have been produced to provide specific, directed help to parents and students. The guides cover the examinations, both internal and external, that students take during the course of their HeadStart educational journey. Although exam dates and events are mapped out and announced at the beginning of the year, they are subject to change. Parents are advised not to take their children out of school before the term ends.
On the 13th of November, students begin to revise for the upcoming exams. Preparation begins with revision in class using past papers. Students should also begin to revise at home. This will culminate in exam week which starts on the 20th of November. The results will be reported back to parents at the end of term 1 through the reports and the parent conferences which take place in December.
- Year 7-9 will be examined in the core subjects of English, Maths and Science after which they will undergo rigorous teacher assessment in the other subject areas.
- Year 10 will sit examinations in every subject.
- Year 11 will take their ‘Mock Practical’ exams between the 28th of November and January.
- Students in Year 11 preparing for their Mock Exams should study the complete syllabus as outlined in the Cambridge Website http://www.cie.org.uk/
Progression Tests Revision Packs for Term 3
At the end of each academic year, students in Years 7, 8 and 10 have an end of year test (Year 10) or a Cambridge Progression Test (Years 7 and 8) in the Core Subjects of English, Maths, and Science. At the start of Term 3, Year 9 take a Cambridge Checkpoint Test which is a series of diagnostic tests in English, Maths, and Science. The papers are marked by Cambridge and the results are known towards the end of Term 3.
Mid-way through Term 3, Year 11 and 12 students take their Cambridge iGCSE or AS Level tests in all subjects. The papers are externally marked by Cambridge and the results are known before the start of the new academic year.
Parents and students should carefully read the revision guides and the sample questions as this will provide a solid foundation prior to, and during, a student’s revision schedule.
