Casual Clothes Day in support for Philippine disaster victims
Support the victims of the Philippine Haiyan Typhoon! Dress casual next Friday (22nd of November) at a minimum cost of 100 Baht per person. All donations will go directly to help typhoon victims! Be generous! Give to those in need today!
Media Press Conference
For your information HeadStart will host two press conferences for the media regarding the project of the new HeadStart project that has already commenced.
On Tuesday the 19th of November we will host the Thai media from 10:00-11:30 am in the Primary Library. On Wednesday the 20th of November we will host the English speaking media in the same location from 1:30-3:00 pm.
More information regarding the new facilities in our new location will come out in next week’s update.

Year 1 Visits the Thalang Museum—Ms Laura Baillie
Year 1 enjoyed their visit to the Thalang National Museum. We found out lots about what Phuket was like in the past and we also learnt about the Heroines who disguised as men so they could defend Phuket from invasion.
Year 4A in Science Lab
This afternoon, 4A got to carry out our science experiment in the secondary school’s science laboratory. We used equipment such as measuring cylinders and thermometers to carry out our fair test. We were trying to find out which material (wood,plastic or metal) was the best conductor of heat. After completing the experiment, we concluded that metal was the best conductor and so we wrote up our method and results. Big thanks to Miss Rachel for letting us use her classroom for a lesson; we had great fun!
Year 5 Shadow Puppets
Year 5A has been practicing with their shadow puppets for their upcoming assembly on Tuesday, November 19th. Incorporating their knowledge of light and shadow, as well as Greek myths, they have made a fun show to share with everyone. Hope you make it out on Tuesday to see the results!
Year 7’s - Mona lisa
The Year 7’s have done some truly wonderful work in ICT using their own “impression” of the Mona Lisa, using Microsoft Paint.
Water for P.E. classes
Just a reminder to all Primary students to please remember to bring a water bottle from home that you can use during P.E. lessons. The weather is warming up and it’s important to stay hydrated!

Year 9 Visits Phuket International Hospital
The future of English at HeadStart International School has never looked brighter than it does today. This is largely because of the addition of two passionate, highly qualified and experienced teachers as well as a passionate and dedicated EAL support teacher, but it also because of the high level of financial and practical support that has been pledged to enable the English department to develop in line with a shared vision to become the best provider of education in Phuket. As an English-medium school in Thailand, it is the aim of the department that English should be our flagship.
Huge progress has already been made: Comprehensive schemes of work at all key stages are in place that reflect up-to-the-minute western teaching practices; an effective method of tracking and recording student progress has been implemented; teaching resources have been updated to allow the delivery of literature as well as language at key stage 3 in line with the UK curriculum; the provision of a content-rich, high-standards curriculum with critical thinking skills that prepares our EAL learners to become academically successful in content learning has been devised and is currently being delivered to meet the learning needs of these students; a comprehensive and monitored reading programme has been introduced at key stage 3 to build on the good reading habits encouraged at key stages 1 and 2 and this is to be supported next academic year with the introduction of Suffolk Reading Tests for all students joining the secondary school at Year 7 and new students joining the secondary school. The diagnostic assessment of Year 9, 10 and 11 students with regard to their readiness to sit Checkpoint and IGCSE examinations is also yielding promising results and leads us to be very confident about the future attainment of our young people.
The 2013/2014 Departmental Development Plan promises more: Among other things, the continued development and standardised use of APP across the department to effectively track, record and report individual student progress at all key stages; the continued development of EAL and English Support as an integral part of English teaching within the department and across the school and the introduction of IGCSE English Literature 0486 as a subject for study. This last key action is of particular significance for HeadStart because inculcating an enjoyment and appreciation of Literature allows people to develop new ideas and ethical standpoints, and can help individuals to present themselves as educated members of society. Literature is also crucial to learning stylistic and artistic conventions for communication and writing. When studying Literature, students can learn not only language aspects such as vocabulary and grammar, but also that language can be used for specific and aesthetic purposes. Finally, the study of Literature can provide students with a fresh and creative angle with which to approach their studies in particular and their lives in general and offers an alternative to the pervasiveness of ‘television culture’ with its immediacy and, often, its shallowness.
At HeadStart, the English department already delivers Literature to the end of Key Stage 3 which lays an important foundation for its continued study to IGCSE and beyond. The IGCSE syllabus enables learners to read, interpret and evaluate texts through the study of literature in English. Learners develop an understanding of literal meaning, relevant contexts and of the deeper themes or attitudes that may be expressed. Through their studies, they learn to recognise and appreciate the ways in which writers use English to achieve a range of effects, and will be able to present an informed, personal response to the material they have studied.

Swimming Gala News
Kajonkiet International School Phuket Swimming Gala: Information
The gala will be held on Monday the 25th of November 2013 between 2pm and 6pm. Competitors are invited to arrive from 2pm onwards for warming up.
The opening ceremony will begin at 2:45 with the first race starting promptly at 3pm.
We expect the gala to be finished by approximately 6pm.
This gala will be made available to swimmers from years 4-8.
Students who have entered will received further details.

**The Sound of Christmas **
Rehearsals are going strong with this bunch of scary students and teachers! Thanks to everyone who managed to stick around after the Halloween party for our weekly practice. We have one month left and things are starting to come together. Please make sure your children do not miss any rehearsals from now on, unless you have an emergency beyond your control. It is crunch time and with so little time left, all children must attend rehearsals from this point on to ensure they are memorising lines and songs. Quiz them at home and listen to the CD.
And remember if you buy anything, please send me the empty box so we can make a nice stock of Christmas gifts. Here are some pictures of our latest rehearsals!

Casual Clothes Day **
Casual Clothes Day จะจัดขึ้นในวันศุกร์ ที่ 22 พฤศจิกายน 2556 ซึงเป็นกิจกรรมที่ทางโรงเรียนได้ตระหนัก และเห็นใจต่อผู้ประสบภัยไต้ฝุ่นไห๋เหี่ยนจึ่งได้ใครขอเชิญบริจาคเงินเพื่อช่วยเหลือผู้ประสบภัยไต้ฝุ่น คนละ 100 บาท ทั้งนี้ทางโรงเรียนจะนำเงินบริจาคไปช่วยเหลือผู้ประสบภัยโดยตรง
งานแถลงข่าวโรงเรียนใหม่
เนื่องจากทางโรงเรียนได้มีโครงการขยายโรงเรียนและได้มีการดำเนินการก่อสร้างโรงเรียนใหม่ ซึ่งสถานที่ตั้งใหม่จะย้ายไปอยู่ใกล้กับสถานีตำรวจวิชิต และทางโรงเรียนได้มีการจัดงานแถลงข่าวประชาสัมพันธ์เกี่ยวกับสถานที่ตั้งของโรงเรียนใหม่ในวันอังคาร ที่ 19 พฤศจิกายน 2556 เวลา 10.00-11.30 น.จะมีการแถลงข่าวในส่วนของภาษาไทย และ วันพุธ ที่ 20 พฤศจิกายน 2556 เวลา 13.00-15.00 น. จะมีการแถลงข่าวในส่วนของภาษาอังกฤษ

Year 5 เยี่ยมชมโรงหนังตะลุง
ในการเยี่ยมชมโรงหนังตะลุงในครั้งนี้ ซึ่งทำให้นักเรียนได้เรียนรู้และเข้าใจเกี่ยวกับแสงและเงา ในวันอังคาร ที่ 19 พฤศจิกายน 2556 ที่ผ่านมา

ชั่วโมงพละศึกษา
สำหรับในชั่วโมงพละศึกษาอยากจะเน้นย้ำให้ท่านผู้ปกครองนำขวดน้ำมาจากบ้านที่สามารถใช้ดื่มได้ในระหว่างชั่วโมงพละศึกษา เนื่องจากสภาพอาการค่อนข้างร้อนจึงเป็นห่วงบุตรหลานของท่านจะมีอาการสูญเสียน้ำในระหว่างชั่วโมงพละศึกษา

อนาคตของภาษาอังกฤษที่โรงเรียนนานาชาติเฮดสตาท์จะไม่สามารถพัฒนาขึ้นได้ ถ้าปราศจากครูผู้ทรงคุณวุฒิ และประสบการณ์ของคุณครู ประกอบเข้าด้วยกัน ซึ่งทางโรงเรียนได้มีโปรแกรม EAL เข้ามาเป็นตัวช่วยคุณครูในการสอน และนั้นคือเป้าหมายที่ฝ่ายวิชาการจะใช้ในการพัฒนาการ การเรียน การสอนให้สอดคล้องกับวิสัยทัศน์ที่จะกลายเป็นผู้นำของสถานศึกษาและเป็นผู้ให้บริการที่ดีที่สุดในจังหวัดภูเก็ตในฐานะที่โรงเรียนเป็นโรงเรียนเภาษาอังกฤษขนาดกลางในประเทศไทย ทางวิชาการภาคภาษาอังกฤษจึงมีจุดมุ่งหมายให้วิชาภาษาอังกฤษมีความโดดเด่นและเพิ่มศักยภาพให้นักเรียนสามารถแข่งขันกับนักเรียนต่างโรงเรียนได้
EAL กับความคืบหน้าแบบก้าวกระโดด
เนื่องด้วยรูปแบบที่ครบวงจรของการทำงานในทุกๆขั้นตอนจึงสะท้อนให้เห็นถึงแนวทางการดำเนินการเรียนการสอนซึ่งเป็นวิธีที่มีประสิทธิภาพในการติดตามและบันทึกความก้าวหน้าของนักเรียนผู้เรียน EAL ของเราจะกลายเป็นผู้ที่ประสบความสำเร็จด้านวิชาการในการเรียนรู้เนื้อหาซึ่งจะทำให้นักเรียนเกิดกระบวนการคิดวิเคราะห์และทางโรงเรียนได้มีการประเมินผลของ Year 9 , 10 และ 11 ผลการประเมิณออกมาเป็นที่น่าพอใจเป็นอย่างยิ่งจึงทำให้ทางโรงเรียนมั่นใจในโปรแกรมEAL ว่าจะช่วยพัฒนาบุตรหลานของท่านให้มีคุณภาพมากยิ่งขึ้น และทางโรงเรียนสัญญาว่าจะไม่หยุดหยั่งในพัฒนาโปรแกรม EAL และพัมนาอย่างต่อเนื่องเพื่อศักยภาพสูงสุดของนักเรียน

เวลา 14.30 – 18.00 น. ที่ สนาม PIA โดยทั้งนี้ได้ส่งหนังสือไปยังนักเรียนโดยทางอีเมลล์และใคร่ขอความกรุณาแจ้งความประสงค์ที่จะไปร่วมกิจกรรมในครั้งนี้ ซึ่งทางโรงเรียนจะได้จัดเตรียมพาหนะเพื่ออำนวยความสะดวกแก่นักเรียน

ทางโรงเรียนได้มีการเข้าร่วมกิจกรรมแข่งขันกีฬาว่ายน้ำที่โรงเรียนนานาชาติขจรเกียรติ ซึ่งให้นักเรียน year 4-8 เข้าร่วมกิจกรรมนี้ ใน วันจันทร์ ที่25 พฤศจิกายน 2556 เวลา 14.00-18.00 น.
