Christmas Party Announcement

Venue: HeadStart Football Pitch/Multi-purpose court

Date & Time: 6th December, 4:00-6:00 pm

We would like to invite all parents and students to HeadStart’s first large stage production from the Art and Drama department. Over 45 teachers and students have worked throughout Term 1 to prepare this production and we have hired in a terrific sound team to make the production even better. The show will be a 40 minute long performance but will be worth your time. There will be ample seating (500 seats) so that you can watch the show comfortably. There will also be a wonderful Christmas Buffet provided by the HeadStart Chef that will be served after the performance.

Please note that the school buses will leave at 6:15, after the event. If your child usually takes the school bus, you will be contacted in order to find out if you will come to the event and oversee your child or if you would like your child to be overseen by HS teachers and taken home on the school buses. Please look for this info slip in your child’s school on Monday.

It is important to note that you, as parents, are responsible for the safety and oversight of your children. Teachers and Assistants will be assigned to zones to watch entrances and exits but the final responsibility lies with you. Families are encouraged to sit and listen respectfully to the production.

CfBT Consultant Visit 25th – 27th November

HeadStart had our final scheduled visit by our consultant from the international accrediting agency CfBT. This was our last opportunity to be assessed and guided by one of the top educational consultants in the world. After three days of classroom visits, interviews with management, teachers, students, staff and parents, I am delighted to say Mike Hewlett is very pleased with the standards here at HeadStart.

There is still much work to be done and the clock is ticking. We are on target for a May 2014 full inspection. As soon as I get written details from Mike I will pass the details on to you. Well done to all involved in this great success story!

Haiyan Typhoon Donations

A big thank you everyone for your tremendous support of the Haiyan typhoon victims in the Philippines! Collectively the school has raised 51,120 Baht for this worthy cause!!! Pictures and information on how your gift has helped will be published in Term 2!

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on the 13th of December throughout the day. This is a non-teaching day. Students can join their parents to receive feedback from the teachers although this option is optional. All students in Primary have received an information slip in their homework folders. Secondary parents have been e-mailed and will need to give confirmation by replying to the e-mail or filling out the slip that was sent home in the student’s bags. Mr Goodman will send you a confirmation of your appointment once everyone has booked their places.

Thai Department News

Year 11 IGCSE Thai

This week students from Year 11 IGCSE Thai as a First Language class studied about Reading and Directed writing. They learned about Khun Seub Nakhasathien, a Thai conservationist who was well known for his efforts to conserve and protect nature in Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary and Chiew Larn Dam in Surat Thani. Students had to read 2 articles of his biography and summarized both texts with their own language.

สัปดาห์นี้นักเรียนชั้น Year 11 ที่เรียนวิชาภาษาไทย IGCSE ได้เรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับเทคนิคการทำข้อสอบ Paper 2 โดยได้ศึกษาอัตชีวประวัติของบุคคลสำคัญคือ คุณสืบ นาคะเสถียร นักอนุรักษ์สัตว์ป่าและนักวิชาการด้านทรัพยากรธรรมชาติ ที่มีชื่อเสียงจากการพยายามปกป้องเขตรักษาพันธุ์สัตว์ป่าห้วยขาแข้งและเขื่อนเชี่ยวหลาน โดยนักเรียนได้อ่านบทความ 2 เรื่อง และสรุปใจความสำคัญจากเรื่องที่อ่านโดยใช้สำนวนภาษาของตนเอง

The King’s Birthday We will be celebrating HM the King’s birthday by doing an assembly on Friday the 6th of December at the Flag Raising Ceremony. The Ceremony will be from 08.00 – 08.30. We also would like to invite parents to participate in this activity.

Early Years–Light Tracer!

Foundation continues to supplement its’ resources and curriculum support. Early Years A tried out our new Light Tracer this week, experimenting with colours, mixing colours, and illuminating pictures from behind.

Reception—Outdoor Play

Reception children have been enjoying their outdoor learning sessions. They listened to the story of the Gingerbread Man and were able to repeat the story language “run, run as fast as you can, you can’t catch me I’m the Gingerbread Man’. The children then made Gingerbread shaped kites to fly and sand pictures using an outline. They also continued their maths theme, measuring by weight and are seen using the weighing scales to investigate different objects in the sand pit.

Year 6A Celebrates Thanksgiving

Being American I thought I would celebrate Thanksgiving today with my students. Instead of the Pilgrims and Native Americans sitting down together and sharing food, I had each student bring in a traditional dish from their country. Food included dishes such as German potato salad, English ice cream and jelly, French quiche, Thai Massaman curry, Russian Beet Root soup, Polish meatballs, Italian pasta, cheese bread from Georgia, Korean lemon drink…and on and on! We even ended by watching highlights from an American football game.

Year 6B are ‘Movie Makers’

Over the last few weeks in ICT, pupils in 6B have been creating movies using a program called Movie Maker. Keen to tell others of the great time they have here at HeadStart, they set out to capture these great times, taking photographs of themselves in various situations, as well as some staff members too! They left no stone unturned in their quest to capture a typical day in school, eventually compiling this into a movie for you all to see. A selection of the movies have been added to the school’s YouTube site. Why not have a go at making your own movie? Movie Maker is free software; available through Windows Live Essentials (a Google search will give you what you need).

Nothing casual about Friday at HeadStart International School

** **“Lateness, sluggishness or just not being there at all have all become hallmarks of the last day of the working week, according to a study for American Corporate Trends Magazine.”

It’s known in the western world as Casual Friday. It became very prevalent during the Dot-com bubble of the late 1990s and early 2000s in America. Also known as Dress-down Friday, it is a trend that has spread to other parts of the world. Often, it is a sort of celebration of the weekend that allows a temporary relaxation from the constrictions of a formal dress code. However, according to the American Corporate Trends Magazine, it has also led to “Lateness, sluggishness or just not being there at all” on Fridays. Among some students and parents, too, there is a casual attitude towards Fridays.

But with or without a casual attitude to Fridays, punctuality is not an absolute must in Thai society, but it is highly admired among the more educated. We are an educational establishment and we insist that punctuality and attendance is a prerequisite to delivering the best education we can for your child. Please help us to help them achieve their best by ensuring that they are here and on time every day

Y11 Mock Exam Timetable – January 2014

Our Y11 class will be having two weeks of mock full IGCSE examinations starting on Monday, 6th January 2014. Students will be expected to start school at the normal time for registration. All times between exams may be used as private study or visiting subject teachers for help. The timetables will be available on the website under “secondary” and “Examinations” very shortly. All students have hard copies of these. For those who cannot wait, here they are. These examinations are extremely important for all. PE lessons will continue as normal.

Last Friday HeadStart students joined with 3 other schools for the PISAC Football League at Thanyapura Sports and Leisure Club. Although the skies were cloudy and it drizzled a bit, the students had a great time and played well. Here are the results of the games:

ทางโรงเรียนต้องกราบขอบพระคุณผู้ปกครองที่ให้ความร่วมมือกับทางโรงเรียนในการให้ความช่วยเหลือผู้ประสบภัยไต้ฝุ่นไห๋ยเยี่ยนที่ประเทศฟิลิปปินส์ ซึ่งยอดบริจาคที่ได้รวมเป็นเงินจำนวน 51,120 บาท ซึ่งทางโรงเรียนจะนำเงินจำนวนนี้ไปมอบให้แก่ผู้ประสบภัยไต้ฝุ่นไห๋ยเยี่ยนโดยเร็วที่สุด

การประชุมผู้ปกครอง

การประชุมผู้ปกครองจะจัดขึ้นในวันศุกร์ ที่13 ธันวาคม 2556 ซึ่งในวันดังกล่าวจะไม่มีการเรียน การสอน แต่ผู้ปกครอสามารถนำบุตรหลานของท่านมาร่วมในกิจกรรมครั้งนี้ได้ และทางโรงเรียนจะมีหนังสือเชิยไปยังผู้ปกครอง จึงใคร่ขอความกรุณาท่ายนผู้ปกครองตอบกลับมายังโรงเรียนว่าสามารถมาร่วมกิจกรรมครั้งนี้ได้หรือไม่ เพื่อทางโรงเรียนจะได้จัดเตรียมสถานที่ ถ้าหากท่านผู้ปกครองมีข้อสงสัยประการใด สามารถติดต่อหัวหน้าภาคระดับ

Early Year กับการเรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับแสง และสี ( Light Tracer)

ทางโรงเรียนได้สนับสนุนให้นักเรียนได้เรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับ สี และการกระจายตัวของแสง โดยผ่านอุปกรณ์ที่มีชื่อว่า Light Tracer ดังนั้นในสัปดาห์นี้ ทางโรงเรียนจะใช้อุปกรณ์ประกอบการสอนเพื่อให้นักเรียนได้เข้าใจมากยิ่งขึ้น
