Important Updates

Healthy Eating Reminder

HeadStart provides milk for all primary students during their morning break and juice and a snack during afternoon break. We would like to encourage parents to only send their children to school with healthy snack options. Snacks are quite often shared between friends and we don’t want to have students eating snacks at school that they aren’t allowed to eat from their own parents. Therefore, if a student brings for example candy and chips to school the teacher will ask the student to open it after 3 o’clock.

Sports Uniforms — Good News!

HeadStart is happy to announce that we now have the new stock of P.E. uniforms. The material for the sports uniform is a new, more durable, cool mesh fabric, allowing more comfort, mobility and is cooler to wear in the hot weather. The shirts are also better fitted to the body shape and do not need to be bought 2-3 sizes larger to fit in different ways.

The new sizes of the Sport’s tops identify the circumference of the bust (around the chest with raised arms). The new sizes of the Sport’s shorts identify the circumference of the waist and there is a string to tighten the waist if needed.

U13 Boys & Girls Basketball Matches v British International School (Away Game) - Now on March 3, 2015

The upcoming basketball match at the British International School on Monday 24th February has been moved to Monday 3rd March. Please take your child to the British International School directly afterschool on Monday 3rd March.

New Access Road Almost Complete!

The road that connects Muang Chao Fah and the exit right outside of MAKRO (which is right in front of the HeadStart school) is close to completion! This will provide a very convenient short cut for parents travelling from the South of Phuket to HeadStart’s present location.

Primary Literacy Week, Els Bellon, Head of Primary

There’s a variety of activities happening during our primary literacy week which will take place from the 3-7th of March. Here’s a quick glance on what will be happening:

BookSwap

Do you still have books around the house that your children don’t read anymore because they’ve outgrown them? On Monday the 3rd of March and Tuesday the 4th of March Primary students can bring in old books (still in good condition) to school. For every 3 books they bring, they will receive 2 tickets. The librarian will then sort these books into age groups and take out any old or inappropriate books. On Friday the 7th of March all students can take their tickets into the library and choose books to take home. Any books that are left over will go into the class libraries.

Cosmos the Curious Whale

Mrs. Gail Clarke will come and present her new book on Wednesday the 5th of March. The book has been illustrated with drawings from children all over the world, many of them are from HeadStart students. The book will be available for sale during that week.

Parents are invited too!

On Thursday the 6th of March, parents who would like to come and read to the students in their child’s class are welcome to bring in books in their own native language. Picture books usually work well if it is a language that the children aren’t familiar with. Please contact your child’s homeroom teacher for more information about when they can welcome you in their class.

Dress-up day

On Friday the 7th of March, primary students can come dressed up as their favourite book character.

Throughout the week there will be a lot more things going on all related to literacy!

Recycling in Year 1B ** by Laura Anne Baillie, Year 1 B Teacher

Year 1B have been learning about the importance of recycling as part of our ‘Love the Earth’ projects topic. We talked about why we all need to recycle and read the story ‘Michael Recycle’. We went on a walk around school to find the recycle bins and we learnt how to use them properly. We have even set up some recycling bins in our classroom. Why not teach about the important of recycling at home too!

Year 3 Made Vehicles of Recycled Materials by Katja Clark, Teacher Year 3B

Y3 designed and made their own vehicles out of recyclable materials. They then presented their creations back to the rest of the class.

Year 5 Celebrates Valentine’s Day, *Heidi St. Hill, Year 5 teacher *

Year 5A celebrated Valentine’s Day by making a secret valentine (classmate) feel special all week long. When finally revealed, we threw our very own Vday party!

Year 5’s Sense of Smell, Heidi St. Hill, Year 5 teacher

Year 5A finished our unit learning about the human body by testing one of our five senses, our sense of smell. The students used their keen senses to try and detect what substances Ms. Heidi had secretly concocted. Great job sniffing out the answer, Year 5A!

Amnesty and Regents Journalist of the Year Competition by Andrew Chambers, Event Coordinator

Many thanks for your support in entering the Amnesty and Regents Journalist of the year competition – we have had a large number of entries from international schools all over Thailand. I am pleased to inform you that your students:

are being invited to the finalists’ day in Bangkok on Friday March 14th. Here the students from all the shortlisted schools will get together for a morning workshop before the overall winners will be announced. The event will take place at the Personal Development Centre. Attending students will need to prepare a short (1-2 min.) presentation on their topic explaining why they chose it and what they found out. The remainder of the workshop session will be focused on allowing the students to read and discuss each other’s work.

Maka Bucha Day – National Holiday

On this day (during the full moon of the third lunar month), seven months after Buddha began his teachings, 1,250 monks gathered to hear Buddha preach. Buddha ordained these monks to spread the principles of Buddhism and this marked a key event in the development of the religion. 45 years later, on the same full moon in the third lunar month, Buddha again delivered his teachings before his death. The third lunar month on which both events occurred is known in Buddhist Pali language as ‘Makha’ and Bucha’ means honour.

This week students in Reception studied vegetables and what they called in Thai. The teachers also encouraged the students eat vegetables daily.

ทางโรงเรียนมีความยินดีอย่างยิ่งที่จะขอประกาศให้ทราบว่า ตอนนี้ชุดพละศึกษาที่ทุกคนรอคอยได้มาถึงแล้ว เป็นชุดที่ตัดเย็บโดยวัสดุที่เหมาะสมในการใช้ออกกำลังกายเป็นอย่างยิ่ง มีความยืดหยุ่นทนทานมากขึ้น เนื้อผ้าเป็นแบบตาข่ายทำให้เย็นสบายเมื่อสวมใส่แม้ในวันที่อากาศร้อน และยังออกมาแบบมาให้เข้ารูปกับสรีระของผู้สวมใส่ โดยไม่ต้องซื้อขนาด2-3 ที่ใหญ่กว่าในแบบที่ต่างกันเผื่อ

ถนนใหม่ที่สร้างกำลังจะเสร็จแล้ว

ถนนที่ตัดเชื่อม เหมืองเจ้าฟ้าออกมาทางด้านข้างห้างแม็คโคร (ซึ่งจะตัดตรงผ่านด้านหน้าโรงเรียนนานาชาติเฮดสตาร์ทที่ใหม่) ใกล้จะเสร็จสิ้นแล้ว ทั้งนี้เพื่อเป็นการเอื่ออำนวยความสะดวกให้กับท่านผู้ปกครองได้ใช้เป็นทางลัดในการเดินทางจากทางใต้ของภูเก็ตมายังโรงเรียนซึ่งจะผ่านสถานที่ที่กำลังจะขึ้นโครงการของโรงเรียนโครงการใหม่ด้วย

เรียนรู้เรื่องการรีไซเคิล ของนักเรียนชั้น Year 1B

นักเรียนชั้น Year 1ได้เรียนรู้เรื่องความสำคัญของการรีไซเคิล คือการนำเอาของที่ใช้แล้วนำกลับมาให้อีกซึ่งนั้นเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของโครงการ “รักษ์โลก” ที่โรงเรียนเราได้จัดขึ้น เราสอนให้ได้รับรู้ว่า ทำไมเราถึงต้องรีไซเคิลและร่วมอ่านเรื่องราวของ ‘Michael Recycle’ จากนั้นเราก็เดินดูรอบโรงเรียนดูถังขยะและการแยกขยะ นอกจากนี้เรายังได้จัดถังขยะสำหรับขยะรีไซเคิลๆไว้ในห้องเรียนของพวกเราด้วย ดีไหมถ้าเราจะสอนให้เด็กของเราให้ความสำคัญของการรีไซเคิลที่บ้านด้วย

การแข่งขันทักษะการเขียนทางภาษาอังกฤษ

ขอขอบคุณสำหรับท่านที่สนับสนุนการเข้าร่วมแข่งขันทักษะการเขียนทางภาษาอังกฤษในปีนี้ ผมรู้สึกเป็นเกียรติอย่างยิ่งที่จะแจ้งให้ท่านได้ทราบว่านักเรียนของเราตามรายชื่อดังต่อไปนี้ เป็นผู้ที่ได้ผ่านเข้ารอบในการแข่งขันซึ่งถือว่านักเรียนของเราผ่านเข้ารอบได้จำนวนมากที่สุดจากโรงเรียนนานาชาติทั่วประเทศไทยที่ได้เข้าร่วม

นักเรียนทั้ง 4 คนของเราได้เข้ารอบชิงชนะเลิศ โดยทำการแข่งขันกันในวันที่ 14 กุมภาพันธ์ 2557 ที่ โดยจัดขึ้นที่ the Personal Development Centre โดยนักเรียนเหล่านี้จะต้องเตรียมตัวในการทำภาพนำเสนอในหัวข้อที่พวกเขาได้เลือกไว้ในความยาว 1-2 นาที โดยต้องแสดงให้เห็นด้วยว่าทำไมถึงได้เลือกอย่างนั้นและนั้นสื่อออกมาให้เห็นอะไรบ้าง ผลงานที่เหลือจะถูกจัดและนำมาให้นักเรียนได้อ่านและคัดเลือกผลงานด้วยนักเรียนด้วยกันเอง

วันมาฆะบูชา – วันหยุดราชการของไทย

วันมาฆะบูชา(เป็นวันที่พระจันทร์เต็มดวงในช่วงของไตรมาสแรกของปีตามจันทรคติ ที่เราเรียกกันว่า วันเพ็ญเดือน3)เป็นวันที่พระพุทธเจ้าได้ทรงโปรดแสดงปฐมเทศนาเพื่อโปรดสรรพสัตว์หลังจากที่พระองค์ได้ตรัสรู้ผ่านมาแล้ว7เดือน และในวันนั้นได้มีพระที่ได้ฟังธรรมเทศนาจากพระองค์แล้วก็บรรลุเป็นพระอรหันต์ และหลังจากนั้นพระอรหันต์ก็ต่างแยกย้ายเพื่อออกไปเผยแพร่คำสอนของพระศาสดา หลังจากนั้น 45 ปีผ่านไปครบรอบพระจันทร์เต็มดวงในช่วงไตรมาสแรกตามจันทรคติหรือ วันเพ็ญเดือน3 พระบรมศาสดาได้ทรงตรัสพระธรรมเทศนาอีกครั้งก่อนที่จะทรงเสด็จดับขันธปริณิพาณ วันเพ็ญเดือน3ที่เกิดขึ้นทั้ง2ครั้งนั้นชาวพุทธทั้งหลายรู้จักโดยเรียกเป็นภาษาบาลีว่า “มาฆา” และ “บูชา” มีความหมายถึง การเคารพสักการะบูชาคำสอนของพระศาสดา

อาทิตย์นี้ นักเรียนในชั้นได้เรียนเรื่องเกี่ยวกับผักว่าผักต่างๆ ที่เขาเห็นและรับประทานนั้นเขาเรียกว่าอะไรบ้างในภาษาไทย และคุณครูก็สอนให้นักเรียนกินผักทุกวันเพื่อสุขภาพ

การแข่งขันว่ายน้ำที่โรงเรียนนานาชาติบริติช

ทางโรงเรียนขอแจ้งให้ทราบอีกครั้งสำหรับงานวันพุธ ที่ 26 กุมภาพันธ์ 2014 ที่ โรงเรียนนานาชาติบริติชโดยจะต้องออกเดินทางตอน 13: 45 น.
