Important Updates
A New Partnership
The Anuphas family visited HeadStart as a new partnership is formed for the new HeadStart facility opening for the 2015-2016 academic school year.
Security System Installation Update
**We are pleased to announce that the newly installed security system should be operational within the next week. Parents, Staff and Secondary students will have finger print access to the school premises. This will greatly increase the security of all students and staff at HeadStart. All visitors wishing to access the school will need to pass a rigorous process of screening and under no circumstances will students be allowed to leave the school without prior written permission from the parents.
Adjustments to the new systems will take time and patience therefore, we apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
Here are the important things that you should take note of:
- All parents and Secondary students will need to be registered with the finger scanner. This will take a few weeks to complete. We will have staff on call to help you with this process. - Foundation and Primary Students: students will not need to register with the finger scanner. Dropping off your children will remain much how it has been; drive by and drop of your children and a teacher will be on duty at the entrance to let all of the students into the school. Parents will be responsible to scan the students out of school. - Secondary Students: All Secondary students will need to register with the finger scanner to enter the school. Should you wish to allow your child to leave the school independently you will need to sign a waiver which the school will make available to you within the following days. If the school does not have written consent we will under no circumstance allow the student to leave the school premises.

Primary News
Literacy Days by Els Bellon, Head of Primary**
There’s a variety of activities happening during our primary literacy week. Here’s a quick glance on what will be happening…
BookSwap
Do you still have books around the house that your children don’t read anymore because they’ve outgrown them? On Monday the 3rd of March and Tuesday the 4th of March primary students can bring in old books (still in good condition) to school. For every 3 books they bring, they will receive 2 tickets. The librarian will then sort these books into age groups and take out any old or inappropriate books. On Friday the 7th of March all students can take their tickets into the library and choose books to take home. Any books that are left over will go into the class libraries.
Cosmos the Curious Whale
Mrs. Gail Clarke will come and present her new book on Wednesday the 5th of March. The book has been illustrated with drawings from children all over the world, many of them are HeadStart students. The book will be available for sale during that week.
Parents are invited too!
On Thursday the 6th of March, parents who would like to come and read to the students in their child’s class are welcome to bring in books in their own native language. Picture books usually work well if it is a language that the children aren’t familiar with. Please contact your child’s homeroom teacher for more information about when they can welcome you in their class.
Dress-up day
On Friday the 7th of March, primary students can come dressed up as their favourite book character.
Throughout the week there will be a lot more things going on all related to literacy!
Y3A Valentine’s Day Assembly by Pandora Dufes, Y3A Teacher
**Y3A prepared an assembly to tie in with Valentine’s Day. The theme was friendship and the children decorated friendship hearts in class which they then wore for the assembly. They performed a small play and then danced and sang beautifully!
Y3B Materials in Science by Katja Clark, Y3B Teacher
**Y3B have been learning about Materials in Science. They celebrated their learning adventure in our assembly ‘Living in a Material World’, which featured drama, singing and dancing.
Year 5 Goes Around the World by Daniel Redley, Year 5B Teacher**
**5A and 5B were set the task to create a presentation that would highlight some of the major cultural areas of their home countries. Some children chose to do this as a power point presentation and others chose to create a poster which included photos, research on history as well as the currency of their home countries. To accompany their presentations we also brought in a sample dish for all of the children to try. This was a really successful afternoon and was a great finish to all of the hard work that each child had done on this project. Very well done 5A and 5B!

Year 6A Humanities by Kate Dietrich, Year 6B Teacher
**As part of our Humanities unit on mountains, students had the chance to teach each other! Each group was given a different mountain tribe to research. Then they planned and presented a lesson to teach the rest of the class about their particular mountain people. Students used movement through pantomime and dance, as well as visual posters and chants to make the learning interesting for their classmates! Very creative!
Secondary News
Literacy Week Information by Mark Goodman, Head of Secondary
On Wednesday, 5th March, self-published author David George Clarke will be in school.
Thursday, 6th March will be ‘Language Day’. Students will spend the day working in their houses in a series of workshops. These will focus on Drama, Performance Poetry, Singing and Speech. Later there will be an opportunity for students to showcase their work on stage in front of the secondary school. There will also be a Language Day quiz as well as prizes awarded to Key Stage 3 students for the most books read in terms 1 and 2 so far.
Friday, 7th March is a non-uniform day. Students may dress either as a character from a book or a well-known author. They will be asked to pay 50 baht whether in costume or not.
A Special Visitor by Richard Thézé, English Teacher
David G Clarke, author of Rare Traits, worked for almost thirty years as a forensic scientist in Hong Kong. On Wednesday next week, as part of Literacy Week, he will spend the day at HeadStart talking to some of our students about his experiences as a scientist turned writer. We are lucky to be hosting such a distinguished guest and look forward to his visit with great anticipation. Hopefully, David will help Mr Thézé and Ms Nicol instil a greater love of reading and writing in our students.

Amnesty International Young Journalist Award Writing Competition by Richard Thézé, English Teacher
- *Nurturing talented young writers is part of what we do as English teachers at HeadStart. Four of our students have already submitted articles to the Amnesty International Young Journalist of the year writing competition hosted by Regent School in Pattaya. Moreover, they have all been shortlisted to attend the Finalists’ Day in Bangkok on Friday, March 14th. They are: Azra Anderson in Year 7, Luba Omelchenko in Year 9, and Haki Kim and Zoey Ezandam, who are both in Year 11.
It is part of my dream as a facilitator of learning that at least one of my students will, one day, become a well-known writer.
Year 7 Triadhos Barge Trip News by Jackie Feliciano, Music Teacher**
The trip was very informative! The students had fun participating in the activities set by the barge crew, who were very competent and knowledgeable and were amazing with the students! The students enjoyed walking through Ayutthaya and learning about the Burmese war. I would definitely recommend it for next year.

Year 9 MRV Chiang Mai Trip News by Rebecca Nicol, English Teacher
- *On Thursday 20 February, 12 students embarked on an exciting journey to Maekok Outdoor Education Centre, located near the Myanmar border. During their stay, the students participated in field games, team challenges, archery, rock climbing, abseiling, kayaking, Thai cooking, the high ropes course and confidence course, jungle survival activities, the Gaeng Tum hike to a hill tribe and to Wat Thanton. What an incredible opportunity for students to develop team building skills while having fun along the way!

On the 15th of February, 6 DoFE participants joined with the SOS village for an English lesson and lunch at HeadStart. They then went on to have some fun in the sun at FunStart!

Year 10 at the Big Buddha by Kru Wi, Thai Language Teacher
This week the Year 10 Thai class went on a field trip to the Big Buddha in Chalong. Students learned about the history behind, and the importance of, the Big Buddha. They will be writing an essay about their visit.

Swimming Gala at BIS
On Wednesday afternoon, teams from, HeadStart International School, British International School, Kajonkiet International School and Phuket International Day School arrived for a gala held at the British International School.
As usual it was an exciting affair with a lot cheering and close races. Added to the excitement were the nerves of the Year 3 & 4 swimmers, for many of whom it was their first competitive gala. The standard as ever was high and the swimmers performed at their best.
After comparing new times with old, it is worth mentioning that every single swimmer improved on previous times for their individual events. The final result was a win for BISP and second for PIADS and 3rd place for HeadStart.
Well done also to Year 5 who came first in their year group. Once again I would like to say thank you so much to all of the parents who continually help with supporting our Aqua Panthers.

Basketball News by Coach Dean Jackson**
Thursday Feb 27th, HeadStart Panthers U19 girls basketball team played Kajonkietsuksa. Our HeadStart girls are improving at a steady rate and I as coach was very impressed with the girls performance. Well done.
HeadStart Panthers U19 Boys v Kajonkietsuksa
A game played with a terrific sense of fun between teams who are good friends. However, Kajonkietsuksa were too good on the night with tight play, more accurate shooting and a couple of subs. Of note was Kris Steppe for the Panthers made many good shots and Savattiphat Karuna was always strong under the ring. In defence Tin Truong and Lin Chien-Luen were also strong. However, despite a late surge by the Panthers, Kajonkietsuksa were too strong.

ระบบการรักษาความปลอดภัยใหม่
ด้วยความภาคภูมิใจยิ่งที่จะแจ้งให้ทุกท่านได้ทราบว่าทางโรงเรียนได้ดำเนินการติดตั้งระบบการรักษาความปลอดภัยเพื่อเอามาใช้ในการดำเนินงานภายในอาทิตย์หน้านี้ ภายใต้ระบบนี้นักเรียนและผู้ปกครองรวมทั้งพนักงานจะต้องทำการสแกนลายนิ้วมือเวลาเข้าออก ซึ้งนี้เป็นการเพิ่มความเข้มงวดในการรักษาระดับความปลอดภัยที่ทางโรงเรียนได้จัดทำเพื่อมอบและอำนวยความสะดวกให้กับทุกท่าน และสำหรับท่านที่เข้ามาติดต่อกับทางโรงเรียนจะต้องได้รับการตรวจสอบอย่างเข้มงวดก่อนที่จะผ่านเข้ามาภายในโรงเรียนอีกทั้งรวมไปถึง ในกรณีที่นักเรียนมีความต้องการจะออกไปนอกโรงเรียน ทุกครั้งจะต้องได้รับอนุญาตจากผู้ปกครองเป็นลายลักษณ์อักษรเท่านั้น
การปรับเปลี่ยนโดยการนำเอาระบบรักษาความปลอดภัยแบบใหม่นี้เข้ามาใช้เวลาในการจัดการระยะหนึ่งซึ่งอาจจะเป็นการไม่สะดวกในบางประการแก่ท่านผู้ปกครอง ทางโรงเรียนขออภัยเป็นอย่างยิ่งในความไม่สะดวกที่เกิดขึ้นไว้ ณ ที่นี้ด้วย
และนี่เป็นรายละเอียดสำหรับทุกท่านเพื่อเอื้ออำนวยในการดำเนินการ
- ผู้ปกครองและนักเรียนในระดับมัธยมทุกท่านจะต้องทำการสแกนลายนิ้วมือ ซึ่งในการดำเนินการนี้จะต้องใช้เวลาในการดำเนินการประมาณ 2-3 อาทิตย์จึงเสร็จสิ้น ซึ่งทางโรงเรียนได้จัดพนักงานคอยอำนวยความสะดวกในการดำเนินงานให้กับทุกท่าน - ส่วนในระดับชั้นประถมและเด็กเล็ก นักเรียนไม่จำเป็นต้องสแกนลายนิ้วมือ แต่ทุกท่านจะส่งเด็กๆ ที่จุดส่งซึ่ง ณ จุดนั้นจะมีคุณครูเป็นผู้ทำหน้าที่คอยรับเด็กและนำเด็กเข้ามาโรงเรียน ส่วนสำหรับในกรณีที่ผู้ปกครองมีความประสงค์จะมารับเด็กกลับ ผู้ปกครองจะเป็นผู้ที่ทำหน้าที่ในการสแกนนิ้วแทนเด็กนักเรียน - นักเรียนในระดับมัธยมศึกษาจะต้องทำการสแกนนิ้วเพื่อเข้ามาโรงเรียน ถ้าหากว่าท่านผู้ปกครองมีความประสงค์จะนำบุตรหลานของท่านออกนอกโรงเรียนก่อนเวลา ท่านผู้ปกครองจะต้องเซ็นเอกสารให้กับทางโรงเรียนและต้องแจ้งล่วงหน้าอย่างน้อย 1 วัน ถ้าทางโรงเรียนไม่ได้รับเอกสารนี้ทางเราไม่อาจจะอนุญาตให้บุตรหลานของท่านออกนอกโรงเรียนได้
ขอขอบพระคุณล่วงหน้าเป็นอย่างยิ่งที่ทุกท่านให้ความอนุเคราะห์ในการให้ความร่วมมือในครั้งนี้เพื่อทำให้ โรงเรียนนานาชาติเฮดสตาร์ทเป็นสถานที่ที่ปลอดภัยและน่าอยู่สำหรับทุกคน
สำรวจ หลังเลิกเรียน
จากการที่ทางโรงเรียนได้จัดให้มีการเรียนการสอนหลังเวลาเลิกเรียนขึ้นมา จนวันนี้ทางโรงเรียนอยากจะใคร่ขอความอนุเคราะห์ท่านผู้ปกครองได้สละเวลาอันมีค่าในการช่วยกรอกแบบฟอร์ม The ‘After School classes Survey’ แสดงความคิดเห็นเกี่ยวการเรียนการสอนในเวลาหลังเลิกเรียนของเราด้วย โดยทางโรงเรียนจะแจกเอกสารนี้ให้กับนักเรียนเพื่อนำกลับไปให้ท่านที่บ้านในวันจันทร์ที่ 3 มีนาคม 2557 และขอความกรุณาในการกรอกเอกสารและจัดนำส่งคืนที่คุณบุ๋มที่ห้องธุรการ ขอขอบพระคุณค่ะ

นักเรียนต่างเตรียมการแสดงในวันแห่งความรักที่จะเกิดขึ้นในช่วงเวลาที่จำกัด รูปแบบของกิจกรรมคือการแสดงออกถึงความสัมพันธ์มิตรภาพระหว่างเพื่อนซึ่งนักเรียนก็จะได้ ทำหัวใจแห่งมิตรภาพพร้อมทั้งตกแต่งตามจินตนาการ นอกจากนี้ยังได้มีการแสดง ร้องเล่นเต้นแบบ สนุกเป็นที่สุด
นักเรียนชั้น Y3B เรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับวัตถุต่างๆ ในชั่วโมงวิทยาศาสตร์
ในชั่งโมงวิทยาศาสตร์ Y3B ได้เรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับวัตถุ มวลสารต่างๆ ที่มีในโลกนี้ ด้วยความตื่นตาตื่นใจโดยดูภาพยนตร์ และเต้นรำประกอบการร้องเพลงด้วย
เดินทางรอบโลกไปกับนักเรียนชั้น Year 5
นักเรียนชั้น Year 5 รับมอบหมายให้จัดทำการนำเสนอเรื่องราวเกี่ยวกับวัฒนธรรมในประเทศต่างๆ โดยที่นักเรียนบางคนเลือกที่จะใช้ power point ในการนำเสนอ และมีที่ใช้การนำเสนอแบบการใช้ภาพโปสเตอร์ที่ภายในมีภาพเล็กภายในที่เป็นภาพเกี่ยวกับประวัติศาสตร์อย่างเช่นที่มีในเงินตราของประเทศนั้นๆ ซึ่งสิ่งที่นักเรียนได้จัดทำมาเสนอนั้นเราได้นำมาเป็นตัวอย่างเพื่อให้เด็กอื่นๆได้ลองทำดู**
มนุษยศาสตร์ศึกษาของนักเรียนชั้น Y6A
เป็นการเรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับพฤติกรรมของคน นักเรียนได้มีโอกาสในการสอนกันและกัน โดยได้แบ่งออกเป็นกลุ่มและแต่ละกลุ่มจะรับมอบหมายให้เป็นเสมือนตัวแทนของชนเผ่าต่างๆ ซึ่งเขาต้องไปทำการค้นคว้า พวกเขาได้วางแผนการการจะนำเสนอและเตรียมที่จะสอนเพื่อนๆในชั้นเกี่ยวกับหัวข้อที่พวกเขาได้รับ นักเรียนได้ให้การแสดง อีกทั้ง การเต้น หรือแม้แต่การนำเสนอทางรูปภาพ การบรรยาย ที่ช่วยสร้างบรรยากาศในการเรียนรู้สำหรับเพื่อนได้เป็นอย่างดี เป็นความคิดสร้างสรรค์ที่สุดแสนจะวิเศษ

ข่าวสารเกี่ยวสำหรับสัปดาห์แห่งการเรียนรู้ (สัปดาห์หนังสือ)
วัน พฤหัสบดี ที่ 26 มีนาคม 2557 ที่จะถึงนี้เป็นวันภาษา นักเรียนจะได้รับมอบหมายงานไปทำที่บ้านเกี่ยวกับ การเรียงความ การแต่งบทกลอน หรือ บทร้อง หลังจากนั้นเขาก็จะมีการนำเสนองานที่เขาได้ทำมาหน้าชั้นในระดับมัธยม และได้ทำบททดสอบเกี่ยวกับวันภาษา และยังมีรางวัลให้กับนักเรียนผู้ที่อ่านหนังสือมากที่สุดในระหว่าง เทอม 1-2 อีกด้วย
แขกรับเชิญอันทรงเกียรติ์
David G Clarke, author of Rare Traits ผู้คลาคล่ำกับการทำงานในวงการของนักวิทยาศาสตร์ด้านนิติศาสตร์ในประเทศฮ่องกงมาเป็นเวลากว่า 30 ปี ซึ่งให้เกียรติกับทางโรงเรียนเฮดสตาร์ท มาร่วมบรรยายและให้ความรู้แต่นักเรียนเกี่ยวกับประสบการณ์จากการเป็นนักวิทยาศาสตร์สู่การเป็นนักเขียนในวันพุธที่จะถึงนี้ ช่างเป็นความโชคดีของพวกเราที่ได้มีโอกาสได้เป็นเจ้าภาพต้อนรับแขกผู้ทรงเกียรติ์และหวังเป็นอย่างยิ่งว่า คุณเดวิดจะช่วย คุณ เทรเซ่และ คุณ นิโคล ได้ซึมซับประสบการอันยอดยิ่งในการอ่านและเขียนนี้ร่วมด้วยกับนักเรียนของเรา**
การแข่งขันทักษะทางภาษาอังกฤษ
นักเรียนของเฮดสตาร์ท 4 คน ได้เข้าร่วมการแข่งขันทักษะทางภาษาอังกฤษซึ่งจัดขึ้นโดย โรงเรียนรีเจนด์พัทยา มากไปกว่านั้นพวกเขาได้รับการคัดเลือกให้เข้าร่วมแข่งขันในรอบตัดสินในวันศุกร์ที่ 14 มีนาคม นี้ ที่จังหวัดกรุงเทพฯ นักเรียนเหล่านั้นคือ Azra Anderson ชั้น Year 7, Luba Omelchenko ชั้น Year 9, Haki Kimและ Zoey Ezandam ชั้น Year 11
กิจกรรมทัศนะศึกษาของนักเรียนชั้น Year 7
เป็นกิจกรรมที่ให้ความรู้มาก นักเรียนทุกคนสนุกสนานกับการทำกิจกรรมที่ลูกเรือจัดให้ พวกเขามีความรู้ ความสามารถ และนักเรียนสนุกกับการได้เรียนรู้ประวัติศาสตร์ในสมัยอยุธยา รวมถึงสงครามกับประเทศเพื่อนบ้านอย่างพม่า ฉันคิดว่าเป็นกิจกรรมที่ดีที่ควรจัดขึ้นอีกในปีหน้า
กิจกรรมทัศนะศึกษาของนักเรียนชั้น Year 8
นักเรียนชั้น Year 9 กับกิจกรรมทัศนศึกษาที่จังหวัดเชียงใหม่
เมื่อวันพฤหัสบดีที่ 20 กุมภาพันธ์ นักเรียนจำนวน 12 คน ได้ไปทัศนะศึกษาที่ Maekok Outdoor Education Centre ซึ่งอยู่ติดชายแดนประเทศพม่า นักเรียนได้ทำกิจกรรมมากมายเช่น การแข่งขันเป็นทีม, การยิงธนู, ปีนผา, พายเรือคายัค, ทำอาหารไทย, การมีชีวิตรอดในป่า, ปีนเขาและไปชมวัด เป็นกิจกรรมที่ช่วยพัฒนาการทำงานเป็นทีมและทุกคนสนุกมาก

การแข่งขันว่ายน้ำที่โรงเรียนบริติช
ในวันพุธช่วงบ่าย ทีมนักกีฬาจาก โรงเรียนนานาชาติเฮดสตาร์ท, โรงเรียนนานาชาติบริติช, โรงเรียนนานาชาติขจรเกียรติ, โรงเรียนนานาชาติอะคาเดมี่ ได้เข้าร่วมแข่งขันว่ายน้ำที่โรงเรียนนานาชาติบริติช
เป็นกิจกรรมการแข่งขันที่น่าตื่นเต้น มีกองเชียร์มากมาย พร้อมกับความวิตกกังวลของนักเรียนชั้น ** Year 3 และ ** Year 4 นักกีฬาหลายคนเข้าร่วมการแข่งขันเป็นครั้งแรก แต่พวกเขาก็ทำได้ดีมากทีเดียว**
ผลการแข่งขันชนะเลิศอันดับหนึ่งคือ โรงเรียนนานาชาติบริติช, อันดับสองคือ โรงเรียนนานาชาติอะคาเดมี่ และอันดับที่สามคือ โรงเรียนนานาชาติเฮดสตาร์ท
นักเรียนชั้น Year 5 ก็ทำได้ดีมาก ขอขอบคุณทุกคนอีกครั้งรวมไปถึงผู้ปกครองทุกท่านสำหรับความช่วยเหลือและสนับสนุนเสมอ
