Important Announcement
We are quickly approaching the end of this academic year and our team is already making preparations for next year. As you know, our student population has continued to grow rapidly over the last 12 months. We now have many new parents hoping to register their children for the next academic school year starting on August 25th, 2014.
We would like to ask you to send us written notification no later than June 20th, 2014 if your child will not attend HeadStart for the next academic year. This will enable us to make arrangements to accept new students who are now on our waiting lists. We thank you in advance for your cooperation with this request.

Important Updates
Cambridge Primary Checkpoint Exams by Els Bellon, Head of Primary**
Students in Year 6 will be sitting their Cambridge Primary Checkpoints next week. These tests will be held from Monday the 31st of March until Wednesday the 2nd of April. Here is the schedule:
Attention Parents of Year 6 Students:
- Please make sure that your child arrives to school on time! - Every student should have his/her stationery in a see-through zip lock bag. They will need 2 pencils; 2 black or dark blue writing pens; a ruler; a protractor; an eraser and a compass. They can also bring their water bottle if it is see-through and a translating dictionary for the maths and science exams.
Job Vacancies for Secondary Students by Mark Goodman, Head of Secondary
There are two job vacancies at HeadStart School for Year 10 students.
- Official school photographer. HeadStart School is looking for a dynamic photographer from Year 10 to take photographs at school functions and sporting events. Your own camera is not necessary, but you must be keen, willing and able to learn as well as able to travel to events. 2. Prefects. HeadStart School is seeking young adults to become prefects. The ideal candidates will act as a liason between teachers and students, as an information officer and will also patrol school enforcing school rules.
Written application forms can be collected from Mr. Goodman’s office.
Drama Club Performance by Fabienne Mester, Drama Teacher
Next week on Tuesday April 1st at 4pm, the drama class will perform a 30 minute presentation of what they have learned over the last term.
We welcome all interested spectators to come and watch and give them some encouragement.

House Merits Weekly Total
Please Return Your Library Books by Nola Russell, Librarian
Next week the library will be closed to facilitate the exams. However, it is still necessary for me to collect all of the books prior to the end of term, because I need to know what books are in the library, in order to figure out what should be ordered for the next year. If all the students could return their books before the end of term, and also check their homes for run-a-way books, that would be greatly appreciated.

Year 2B Celebrates Their Newspaper Writing! by Julie Cousineau, Year 2B Teacher
In the past few weeks, Year 2 students from Ms. Julie’s English class worked very hard on writing their own newspaper articles. They wrote a plan, a draft and finally typed their article on the computer. They found a picture to illustrate it and printed the final result. To celebrate the end of this project they held a Newspaper Reading Cafe in class, where they read each other’s articles and drank delicious drinks.

Year 2A Assembly by Lindsay Benner, Year 2A Teacher**
Year 2A did an assembly about what we have been learning in maths. We had maths super heroes: Party Plus, Marvelous Minus, Terrific Times, Daring Division and Fabulous Fractions who taught us about what year 2 learned in maths class. Duke of Edinburgh: The Adventurous Journey! by Mark Goodman, Head of Secondary
Nine of our Year 10 students took part in their adventurous journey for the Duke of Edinburgh’s bronze award over the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd of March.
After arriving at Ao Yon bay at 8am Saturday morning, the students collected all their camping equipment and provisions to completely sustain them over the weekend. Everything that they intended to use had to be strapped to a 2-man kayak. The students had planned a route from Ao Yon to Koh Bon which would involve 6 hours of strenuous endeavour. We set off in perfect conditions and had a mid-morning rest stop at Hamburger Hill Island, followed by a lunch stop on the Southern end of Koh Lone. The students then kayaked from Koh Lone to our camp site at Koh Bon. The students set up their tents and prepared their evening meal. After dinner, the wind rose and we saw a spectacular lightning storm over Phuket Island. Some of the students realized that they had not put the fly sheets on their tents. Trying to put a fly sheet on in strong wind is not easy and a valuable lesson was learned.
There are very few lie-ins whilst camping and this trip proved no exception. Teachers and staff were treated to teenage HeadStart students, rousing from their slumber before dawn on a Sunday morning. A beach full of teenagers at sunrise quickly began preparing their breakfasts in readiness for the day ahead. With nearly 20 knots of wind coming from the direction we wanted to go, a quick change of tactics was arranged by the students who decided to paddle dead ahead, into the teeth of the storm, to Koh Lone for lunch. A very wet safety boat crew slowly followed them. Smiles and laughter were exchanged for gritted teeth and dogged determination as they battled the elements for the promise of a cup of noodles and a Fray Bentos tinned chicken pie. Very tired and wet, the team realised that they had forgotten a tin opener. Another lesson learned! After lunch, we paddled in the lee of Koh Lone and the weather gods were kinder to us at first. Clear sky and no wind lifted spirits to the point of relaxation and casualness. Neptune had the last laugh though as the tide came roaring out of Chalong Bay and began carrying the weary paddlers backwards. A reroute to shallower water followed by more determination eventually allowed the tired mariners to make landfall at Ao Yon. Very tired, happy and more aware of their strengths than ever before in their lives. The Duke of Edinburgh bronze award is designed to significantly challenge Year 10 students and it lived up to expectations!

Congratulations to James Van Herzeel!
Congratulations to James Van Herzeel for coming in as second runner up in the PTT Rayong Tennis championships. His scores were 4:5, 4:2 and he had a super tie breaker of 6:10. The next tournament will take place this weekend in Phang-nga and we all hope he will do well.

Clean Beach Boot Camp
Soi Dog Mobile Adoptions Vehicle Logo Competition
Soi Dog are employing additional staff to expand its adoption programs both on Phuket and in Bangkok and Buriram where it has 2,000 dogs rescued from dog meat traders. The goal is to get to 500 adoptions per year by 2016.
Soi Dog has purchased a new vehicle for the adoptions team and a competition is being organised amongst all local schools to design an original logo for it. There will be an open morning at the Soi Dog Shelter on the 10th of May from 9:30 to Midday where visitors can tour the shelter, talk to our resident vet and staff and adopt a pet. There will also be the judging of the Mobile Adoptions Vehicle logo competition with the winner announced. The prize includes a party package for 8 kids to Splash Jungle, as well as, wakeboarding and lunch for 8 at Anthem Wakepark. The total value is 14,197 baht.
We currently have over 300 dogs and dozens of cats at the shelter looking for new homes.
All entries must register at [email protected] for competition details, and be in attendance at the Soi Dog open morning on the 10th of May.

ผจญภัยที่แสนสนุกไปกับกิจกรรมDuke of Edinburgh**
นักเรียน Y10 จำนวน 9 คนได้เข้าร่วมกิจกรรม Duke of Edinburgh ในอาทิตย์ที่ 22-23 มีนาคม ที่ผ่านมา หลังจากที่เราได้เดินทางไปถึง อ่าวยน ตอน 8 โมงเช้าของวันเสาร์ นักเรียนต่างได้จัดเก็บสัมภาระของตนพร้อมทั้งสิ่งยังชีพของตนที่ได้เตรียมมาเรี่ยบร้อยแล้ว นักเรียนได้พาเรีอคายัค 2 คน ต่อ 1 ลำเพื่อสำรวจอ่าวยนที่ใช้เวลาเกือบ 6 ชั่วโมง หลังจากพักที่Hamburger Hill Island ในตอนครึ่งภาคเช้า หลังจากนั้นก็แวะทานอาหารกลังวันที่เกาะโลน จากนั้นก็พายเรือคายัคไปยังเกาะบอน และกางเต็นท์พร้อมทั้งเตรียมอาหารเย็นที่นั้น หลังจากทานอาหารเย็น อากาศเริมเปลี่ยนมีลมแรงและฟ้าแลบ ฝนคงจะตกในไม่ช้า นักเรียนเก็บข้าวของที่วางไว้ข้างนอก
คุณครูที่โรงเรียนพร่ำสอนให้นักเรียนต้องตื่นแต่เช้าเพื่อดูความสวยงามของพระอาทิตย์ขึ้นในเช้าวันอาทิตย์ ในวันนั้นหาดที่เต็มไปด้วยเด็กวัยรุ่นในตอนที่พระอาทิตย์ขึ้นก่อนที่จะเตรียมอาหารเช้ากันอย่างเร่งรีบ ด้วยลมที่พัดแรงทำให้เราตัดสินใจที่จะต้องรีบออกจากที่นั้นก่อนที่จะเปียกฝน แต่ก็หนีไม่พ้น เรามาทานอาหารเที่ยงกันที่ เกาะโลนด้วยความเหนือยและแน่นอนเปียกด้วย อาหารเที่ยงของเราก็เป็นอาหารกระป๋องและมาม่าคัพ และแล้วเราก็พบว่า เราลืมที่เปิดกระป๋องมา นี่เป็นอีกหนึ่งบทเรียนที่ได้เรียนรู้ หลังอาหารเที่ยงอากาศปลอดโปร่ง เหมาะสำหรับการพักผ่อน งานนี้ทั้งเหนื่อย ทั้งสนุก และโอกาสนี้รางวัลที่มีความหมายนี้The Duke of Edinburgh bronze ก็เป็นของนักเรียน Y10

SoiDog รับพนักงานเพิ่มเพื่อที่จะเข้าร่วมโปรแกรมทั้งที่ ในภูเก็ตและที่กรุงเทพ และบุรีรัมย์ ซึ่งเราสามารถที่จะช่วยเหลือสุนัขเอาไว้ได้ 2000ตัว จากการถูกฆ่า เอามาทำอาหาร เราตั้งเป้าเอาไว้ว่าเราจะช่วยสุนัขให้ได้ทั้งหมด 500 ตัวในปี 2016นี้
Soi Dogได้ซื้อรถใหม่สำหรับใช้ในกิจการสำหรับหน่วยงาน และยังจัดให้มีการแข่งขันการออกแบบโลโก้โดยส่งข้อมูลให้กับทุกโรงเรียนในพื้นที่ งานในครั้งนี้จัดขึ้นที่ Soi Dog ในวันที่ 10 พฤษภาคม 2014 ตั้งแต่ เวลา 9:30 เป็นต้นไป ตอนเที่ยงผู้ที่มาเยี่ยมชมสามารถที่จะชมสถานที่ สอบถามพนักงาน หรือแม้แต่สามารถที่เข้ามาติดต่อนำสัตว์ออกไปเลี้ยงได้ ในงานจะมีการประกาศผลการออกแบบปลอกมือถือภาพสัตว์เลี้ยงที่ รางวัลผู้ชนะเลิศจะได้รับรางวัลเป็นบัตรเข้าเล่นน้ำที่สวนน้ำ Splash Jungle สำหรับเด็ก 8 ท่าน รวมทั้งบัตรทานอาหารและร่วมกิจกรรมที่ Anthem Wake park รวมมูลค่า 14,197 บาท
