Message from the Foundation Department
The Foundation Department would like to welcome you to the new academic year, 2013 to 2014. It’s such a pleasure to watch your little ones grow up. We can now see students all the way up to Year 6 who started with us in Foundation way back in the early days of HeadStart! Each new school year we welcome more students and watch our department grow as we become better equipped to deliver our EYFS Curriculum.
This year in Foundation we have been able to embellish our resources right across the curriculum.
‘Outdoor Learning’ is a time where we provide focused activities alongside free-choice opportunities to deliver the EYFS curriculum outdoors. We have added exciting new Physical Development toys such as tricycles, creepers, stepping stones, crawl tunnels as well as sand, water and gardening tools.
To support classroom provision we have more manipulatives such as construction toys, sorting sets, ‘tap tap’, and many malleable materials.
We have also started to use an exciting new Phonics programme in Reception called Jolly Phonics. This programme combines actions and songs to help the students learn their letter sounds. We feel that this is a great way for the students to begin their ‘reading journey’ through life. The action songs make learning more accessible because they are such fun! We are hoping to host a book fair from the Jolly Phonics Company where you as parents can see the full range of their materials and help support the programme from home.
We look forward to continuing to develop our resources and to being able to deliver quality educational opportunities for your children. Most of all we are looking forward to having a lot of fun together!

Goodbye to the Briggs family!
We bid a fond farewell to the Briggs family who are moving on to Australia next week. The Briggs family have been a strong support to the school since 2009 with contributions such as being on the first Parent Committee, spearheading HeadStart’s first Year Book, organizing a fundraising for the P.E. department supplies that raised over 100,000 Baht, assisting in organizing events such as Halloween and the Mom’s Night’s Out, and many more contributions that would be too numerous to name here. We wish their family all the best in their new location!
Wai Kru Day Information
Wan Wai Kru is a day for students to show their respect and appreciation for their teachers. While we understand that parents would like to take pictures of the event, we would respectfully like to ask that you only take pictures before and after the ceremony. Once all the students are seated, we will ask all parents to leave the football pitch so we can start the ceremony. The school will have assigned photographers to take as many pictures as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

Shark Guardians Presentations
There will be a presentation on Monday October 14 at 08.15-09.00 for KS2 and 14.00-15.00 for KS3 in the primary library about sharks from a UK based charity based in Khao Lak. The idea of the presentation is to create awareness, change perceptions, and stimulate conservation activities
From The Sound of Christmas rehearsal team
Parents, if you have unwanted gift wrapping paper and small/medium boxes, please drop them off in the music room. We will need them for props in our play! Remember this Saturday from 3:30 - 5:30 pm the whole cast is called for a rehearsal in the library. Bring a snack if needed. More updates and pictures next week. It’s looking great! Thank you.

Football at BIS this Saturday—From Coach JR and Tladi

This Saturday the following games will take place at the BIS school. School transport will be provided for the students. Please drop off your child at HeadStart school at 8:30 and pick them up at 11:15 am.

**Basketball and Volleyball kits can be ordered now! **We have been very pleased with the progress the Secondary students have made with their basketball and volleyball skills. We now have a team of 14 girls learning basketball 2 times a week, around 10 boys and a volleyball team with about 10 girls participating 3 times a week in preparation for the PTT championships in November! Well done Secondary!

–Give Mr Small your orders by the 9th of October.
–What name do you want printed on the back of the kit?
(must be their name or their nickname i.e. John can have Jonny, Jon or John but not “The Greatest”)

Year 9 are working on a project about identity: they have made a cast of their arm using modroc and decorations!

Primary News!
Year 1A: we see with our eyes!
In science Year 1 are investigating the five senses. To really understand the uses and value of our eyes we carried out a number of different experiments and activities. The children made coloured glasses so that they could change their view, they practiced mirror writing, looked at and made optical illusions and took a look into one another’s eyes. We had lots of fun and the children had a real ‘eye opener!’**
Year 1B experimenting with sight and sound!
Year 2B Play-dough Fun
In our Project period, we made playdough. Students measured 1 cup of flour and 1/2 cup of salt. Then, they mixed it with water and food colouring. It was a messy activity, but we now have homemade playdough which we will use in Science class to push, pull and twist.
Year 2 A class fun!
In year 2A we made Gruffalo’s using play dough! As part of our science unit on movement and forces, we had to write down what movement we used to make the different parts of the Gruffalo. Sometimes we rolled, pinched, pulled, pushed and twisted the dough.
Year 4A edits their own pictures!
In ICT this week, 4A have been learning the skills needed to edit and add graphics to photos.
Thai Department News
Thai Culture Club News and pictures
Once a month Thai students at HeadStart are invited to join the Saturday Thai Culture Club. This month students from Early Years -Year 1 learned how to make flower garlands and Thai herb flavoured jelly. Year 2-Year 4 went to Rawai temple and learned how to make Thai baskets. Year 5- Year 7 went to Vachira Hospital. They helped to fold bed sheets and drew pictures and gave them to the patients. It was a great day.
HeadStart goes on the Radio!
Today Win and Pee from Year 7 went to represent HeadStart on 89.75 FM radio to talk about the fantastic activities they did on the Thai Culture activities last Saturday. Well done!

Year 10 carried out Iodine and Benedicts tests today, looking for starch and reducing sugars. Excellent practical work year 10!

ในวันจันทร์ที่ 14 ตุลาคมนี้ มูลนิธิการกุศล จากประเทศอังกฤษ ซึ่งมีสาขาอยู่ที่ เขาหลัก จะมีการนำเสนอเกี่ยวกับฉลาม เพื่อสร้างความตระหนัก การเปลี่ยนแปลง และกระตุ้นให้เกิดกิจกรรมอนุรักษ์ให้กับนักเรียนที่อยู่ในระดับ KS2 ในเวลา 08.15 น. – 09.00 น. และนักเรียนที่อยู่ในระดับ KS3 ในเวลา 14.00 น. – 15.00 น. ที่ห้องสมุดของโรงเรียน

ในวันเสาร์นี้จะมีการแข่งขันฟุตบอลที่โรงเรียนนานาชาติบริติช ทางโรงเรียนได้จัดเตรียมรถโรงเรียนเพื่อรับส่งนักฟุตบอลของโรงเรียน กรุณามาส่งนักเรียนที่โรงเรียนเวลา 08.30 น. และรับกลับเวลา 11.15 น.

หลังจากที่ทางโรงเรียนได้ฝึกสอนบาสเกตบอลและวอลเลย์บอล ให้นักเรียนมัธยมทำให้ทางโรงเรียนได้รู้ว่านักเรียนมีทักษะที่ดีมาก ขณะนี้ทางโรงเรียนได้มีทีมบาสเกตบอลหญิงจำนวน 14 คน เรียน 2 ครั้งต่อสัปดาห์ นักเรียนชายประมาณ 10 คนและนักวอลเลย์บอลหญิง 10 คน ฝึกซ้อม 3 ครั้งต่อสัปดาห์ เพื่อเตรียมลงแข่งรายการ PTT ในเดือนพฤศจิกายนนี้

นักเรียนชั้น Year 1 เรียนเรื่องสัมผัสที่ 5
ในวิชาวิทยาศาสตร์ของนักเรียนชั้น Year 1 เรียนเรื่องสัมผัสที่ 5 นักเรียนได้ทำแว่นตาที่มีเลนส์เป็นสีเมื่อสวมใส่จะเห็นภาพที่ต่างออกไป นักเรียนทุกคนสนุกสนานกันมาก
นักเรียนชั้น Year 2 ทำดินน้ำมัน
นักเรียนชั้น Year 2ได้ทำดินน้ำมัน โดยการผสมแป้ง 1 ถ้วยและ เกลือครึ่งถ้วย จากนั้นผสมกับน้ำและสีผสมอาหารเข้าด้วยกัน กิจกรรมนี้อาจจะเลอะเทอะนิดหน่อย แต่เราก็จะได้ดินน้ำมันเพื่อใช้ในวิชาวิทยาศาสตร์

ในวิชาคอมพิวเตอร์สัปดาห์นี้ นักเรียนชั้น Year 4 ได้เรียนการแก้ไขและตกแต่งภาพ

ในทุกๆเดือนทางหมวดภาษาและวัฒนธรรมไทยจะจัดกิจกรรมประจำเดือนในวันเสาร์ สำหรับเดือนนี้นักเรียนจากชั้น Early Years -Year 1 ได้เรียนรู้วิธีทำดอกไม้และวุ้นรสสมุนไพร นักเรียนชั้น Year 2-Year 4 ไปวัดราไวย์และเรียนการสานตะกร้า นักเรียนชั้น Year 5- Year 7 ไปบำเพ็ญประโยชน์ที่โรงพยาบาลวัชชิระ โดยการช่วยพับผ้าปูเตียงและวาดภาพให้ผู้ป่วย

วันนี้น้องวินและน้องพีจากชั้น Year 7 ได้ไปร่วมพูดคุยที่สถานีวิทยุ 89.75 FM เกี่ยวกับกิจกรรมบำเพ็ญประโยชน์เมื่อวันเสาร์ที่ผ่านมา
