I am from the United Kingdom, and I am starting my second year working at HeadStart International School. I grew up in a large village called Bebington on the Wirral. After completing my Art Foundation Course in Chester, I chose to study Fine Arts at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff under the tutelage of internationally renowned performance artist André Stitt. After a number of years working in management in the hospitality industry, I decided to change direction in my career and taught English as a foreign language in Wenzhou in The People’s Republic of China. This really ignited within me a passion for teaching, so I returned to the UK to complete my Post Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of Derby. I remained in Derby, teaching at an inner city school for 4 years. I terms of my own personal education philosophy, I am a great believer in methods which peer reviewed evidence suggests are most effective for progress and attainment, for example Singapore Maths and Systematic Synthetic Phonics. In my class the children can expect to work in a safe, fair, and vibrant classroom, where the emphasis is very much upon learning together and helping each other to succeed. I am a firm believer in modelling everything that I expect the children to do, such as behavior, respect for others, book work, enjoyment of learning, creativity, and social skills amongst many others. Outside of school I enjoy spending my time taking part in sporting activities, and also spend a great deal of time travelling. I am a keen follower of Liverpool F.C., and am very much hopeful that they can improve on last year’s spectacular season!
