Foundation

Our Academic Staff members are at the very heart of our School. It is their enthusiasm and commitment in providing learning to our students that inspires our high standards and continued success.

HeadStart’s over 90 specialist teachers have British, Australian, US or similar internationally recognised qualifications which include Bachelor and Master Degrees and Doctorates. They bring with them a wealth of current experience from their home countries and from other international schools. Teachers in Foundation and Primary School are supported by a team of qualified teaching assistants.

The dedication and commitment of our Operational Staff in supporting the day-to-day running of HeadStart ensures that our students receive the very best in learning and extra-curricular activities.

‘Throughout the school, teachers’ subject knowledge and understanding of how students learn are strong. Relationships between students and teachers are positive. The ratio of qualified teachers to students, especially in the early years and lower primary classes, is high. ‘Deputy’ teachers, who are fully qualified teachers in their home countries, support class teachers. Due to their expertise, they make a significant difference to the rates of progress that students make. Teachers know students well and assess them accurately. This enables teachers to plan work that matches the ability of individual students and caters well for their varying needs.’ Education Development Trust (EDT) Accreditation Report, June 2017

Charlotte Myers

Preschool
[email protected]

My name is Charlotte and I am entering my seventh year of teaching. I truly love teaching and feel very excited to be teaching preschool again; the year group that I consider to be the most important. I am a cheerful, happy, nurturing and enthusiastic teacher which has consistently proven a successful approach when working with young children. I believe that when children find school fun and exciting they get develop a love of learning that impacts them so positively and lasts a lifetime. I demonstrate daily that I love my job and love being with the children and they recognize this, meaning they strive to impress, which leads to happy children who can achieve their full potential. Children always enjoy being in my classroom and this shows with their positive attitudes and love of school. I pride myself on building a positive learning environment in which children feel confident, secure and most importantly safe and content. I grew up in the North of England and went to University in Liverpool where I studied Creative Writing. Throughout my degree, I volunteered at Primary schools, working with children who spoke English as a second language. Working with EAL children has proven a consistent and focal part of my career and has prepared me well for teaching overseas. To qualify as a teacher, I completed Graduate Teacher Program at a prestigious school in Buckingham. Upon qualifying as a teacher I taught in England for three years. I then moved overseas to Chaiyaphum in Thailand where I worked as a Year 1 teacher in a government school. Following this I taught in Vietnam and Spain, before moving to the Middle East where I taught in an outstanding international school in Dubai. I felt compelled to return to Thailand, the country I love so much and where my overseas teaching career began, which is why I came to HeadStart two years ago. I have so far adored my time here; I love the children, parents, staff and the amazing community and feel extremely blessed. Outside of the classroom I really enjoy being fit and healthy. I do lots of exercise; rugby, running, cycling, condition, yoga, hula hoop dancing – anything! I also love cooking lots of healthy Vegan foods. I also really enjoy singing, sometimes I sing all day! So I will definitely spend lots of time singing with the children; I am also learning to play the ukulele but I need more practice before I let the children hear me!

Hello! My name is Sarah, I am Jordanian Filipina who grew up in Amman the capital of Jordan. Jordan is probably best known for the Dead Sea which is the lowest point on earth and Petra known as the Rose city. I Graduated from The Hashemite University with a Bachelor's degree in Cultural Resources Management and Museums. This program allowed me to travel to the United States where my love for travel started. I did an internship at the Statue of Liberty National Monument. It was a great experience as I got to meet really interesting people from around the world. In 2018, I started my teaching journey at an International school in Amman. I found that I loved working with children particularly in early years. Recently, I completed my International post graduate certificate in education from Derby University. It was great to learn the theory behind good teaching and to be able to understand where the basis for Early Years Foundation stages stemmed from. I hope with this new understanding of the theory I can help the children to develop into independent learners. Creating a warm and stimulating environment for our children is important to their early development. Flexibility, creativity, patience, compassion and a sense of humour are traits that I feel I encompass and I hope that I can make the children’s time at Headstart a really positive experience. I look forward to exploring the wonderful island of Phuket and trying to ingrain myself into the culture of the island.

I am passionate about child interest led learning; through this we can inspire motivation, self-confidence and ultimately, a love of learning! I am a nurturing, happy and patient teacher. I pride myself on being not only a teacher but a friend, mentor and a motivator! When I’m out of the classroom, I enjoy travelling, trying new foods and learning about new cultures. I have spent the last six years teaching in Thailand and am currently working here at Headstart International School in Phuket. I am a teacher with international experience at all levels from kindergarten to high school. I graduated with a BSc in Secondary Education (English major) from the Philippine Normal University, Manila. Prior to joining Headstart in 2019, I taught kindergarten in Thailand and Primary school in Vietnam. Teaching children from toddlers to teenagers across a broad range of nationalities and cultures, and for whom English is not a first language, has proven challenging, fulfilling and professionally enriching for me. I deliver initiative, integrity, adaptability and a flexible, resilient, effective approach. I particularly enjoy working with kindergarten students whose open mindedness and ability to absorb new information is at its peak. I retain a love of English literature and am a keen reader.

I then secured a position at a Surrey Primary school, in the Reception year and completed my specialist Early Years Teacher Training qualification. I am enthusiastic for the children in my care to enjoy their early school experiences. I believe in positive relationships between home and school to ensure children develop in a nurturing environment where their interests are encouraged and their curiosity stimulated. I feel children learn best through play and being able to explore. As an Early Years teacher I want to guide a child's exploration, using valuable opportunities to encourage early Maths and English. I always en-courage positive social interactions and being kind to each other and I will often be found reading books and singing songs to the children in my class. I look forward to teaching at HeadStart and becoming part of a thriving school community as a teacher and a parent. I am glad to be back in Thailand for the culture, to see our extended family and the food, especially the spicy southern curries!
