HeadStart语言团队

Thank you to all the parents who attended the Mandarin Speaking Parents Meeting held on December 7, 2023. During this session, we not only shared some of the latest information about the school but also addressed many questions raised by parents. We encourage parents to actively participate in school activities, maintain close communication with the school, and collaborate to help children make greater progress in both their academics and personal growth.

Looking ahead, we anticipate more collaboration and communication. If you have any suggestions or concerns, please feel free to contact the school management; we are dedicated to providing you with support. Once again, we appreciate your enthusiastic participation and support.

The Wizard of Oz

Last week, CAPA Senior wowed four audiences with their performance of The Wizard of Oz which follows the story of Dorothy Gale. When a tornado rips through her home, Dorothy finds herself in a magical land facing challenges, making friends and having many adventures.

Once again, we have had an exciting and fast paced term one, filled with an incredible commitment from our CAPA students who have outdone themselves this year. It continues to be a pleasure beyond measure that I get to work with these students and get to not only see them dedicate themselves to our productions but also develop as individuals along the way. In CAPA we are always striving to make improvements and you will see we have continued to build on previous successes: our pit band has again expanded and are performing even more complex music; we have established a ‘CAPA Create’ programme for our backstage team who have been working hard throughout the term creating set and props and working collegiately to ensure the performances run smoothly; and we have the addition of multimedia elements in the performance. Involvement in CAPA is more than just a talent or a desire to be creative, it is about working together to achieve a common goal, developing confidence and communication skills and developing resilience and focus. These skills are essential as our students move into adulthood and I am confident our ‘CAPA Kids’ will continue to excel as they take the next step.

Thank you to all those who have helped us along the yellow brick road; the maintenance team who have given so much time and provided incredible guidance, the housekeeping team who have been a great support; the security team who have worked incredibly hard, moving our set around the school! The teachers who have worked in art, going above and beyond: Mr Endly, Ms Shea, Ms Charmaine, Ms Marijoice, Mr Wilson, Lastly, the senior management team who, as always, have provided excellent support.

The CAPA family is just that, a family. We are incredibly lucky to work with such a dedicated team of teachers who give up their time to ensure a successful performance for our students. I have worked in education for many years and this is, without a doubt, the most talented CAPA team I have had the pleasure of working with. Thank you to our CAPA parents for your support of your children and creativity at HeadStart.

Above all, thank you to the students who have shown immeasurable commitment and dedication. I am proud of each of you and blown away by your talent. I consider myself very lucky that I get to work with you every day. - Ms Sillett, Director of Creative & Performing Arts

Christmas-inspired Art in Early Years

Creating reindeer craft involves imagination and allows young learners to express themselves through art. When facilitating such activities, it’s important to create an environment that allows exploration, offers guidance when needed, and values the unique outcomes each child produces. These activities are not just about the end product but also about the learning journey and the skills acquired along the way.

Exploring Cool and Warm Colours in Reception

The Reception children were exploring cool and warm colours - a fantastic way to combine learning with creativity. Using organic materials like leaves and flowers to create vibrant art not only enhances their understanding of colours but also encourages an appreciation for nature’s beauty. It’s great to see the children practicing their printing skills while being hands-on with the natural world. What an inspiring way to engage with both art and the environment!

Year 1 Outing to Layan Beach

Year 1 had the opportunity to go on their first field trip of this academic year. The trip to Layan Beach was part of our Geography unit, ‘Phuket Paradise’. At the start of this unit, the class received a letter from a child in London named Ben. Ben is coming to Phuket for his Christmas holiday and the children have spent this term answering a number of questions he asked about Phuket. During this trip, they answered the questions “What are the beaches like in Phuket?” and “What animals will I get to see while at the beach?”

The children had the chance to create a piece of art, identify different objects on the beach using their phonetic knowledge and to write about what they had learnt whilst being at the beach. The children were fantastic ambassadors for HeadStart with passersby even commenting on how well the children were behaving and asking what school they had come from. Well done Year 1 for representing HeadStart International School so well and for wearing your House shirt with pride!
