New HeadStart Construction Update October by Huw Butler, Owner of Athena Siam Construction

Auditions and Casting for MR. SCROOGE FINDS CHRISTMAS by Jacqueline Feliciano, Music Teacher** **Congratulations to everyone who auditioned and has a part in the play! Our rehearsals will take place in the pre-school room every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 3:30-5:30. Our first read through is this Friday. The children will be taking home a script, a detailed schedule and a rehearsal contract which must be signed and returned on Monday. Thank you all for the support. The production team is stoked with the amount of talent they witnessed on the auditions. It’s going to be a fabulous show. See you all this Friday afternoon and break a leg!

Casual Clothes Donation Appeals by Miki Edouard, Events Department Every first Friday of the month students are allowed to dress in casual clothes provided they give a 50 Baht donation to charity. This week the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) students made an appeal to students to donate to the charities that they are volunteering for. Jil Habermacher and her team would like students to support the Sunshine Village and their work with the orphans. Darren Edouard and his team would like the donations to go towards the football classes that they will be teaching to orphans as students need football shoes, shin pads and other equipment. What charity do you choose to support?

Student Council for 2014-2015 Academic School Year by Paul Kennedy, Pastoral Care

HeadStart is proud to present the following students as members of the 2014-2015 Student Council

**Student Council Meeting Notes **On Friday the 29th of September, the Student Council met with Mr. Paul Kennedy (Pastoral Care) and Ms Elise Foubert (French teacher) for their first council meeting. Here are the notes from their meeting.

Present: Mr Kennedy, Ms Foubert, Clara, Morgan, Pinhatai, Hami, Nini, Luba, Egor, Tiradetch, Thanadol, Andrew, Farhan, Nyke, Emmie, Ben, Anna, Sandi, Songkran. ** **Issues raised: (1) More space for the year 11 at second lunch. Perhaps the year 11’s can go in to the canteen at 12.30, when the year 7’s go out into the playground? The year 11’s also felt that the year 7’s make too much noise at lunch time and they would like less noise when eating their lunch. (2) The council felt that the menu at lunch time needs to be more varied. In addition there needs to be more variety of vegetarian foods on offer at lunch. Ms Foubert suggested that the council put forward proposals to the chef with regards to other foods that can be served at lunch. (3) Some of the girls on the council suggested that the sleeves on the girl’s shirts could be changed as they found irritating. Mr Kennedy and Ms Foubert said that that is something that can be looked into for next year’s uniform. (4) The fabric of the PE shorts was an issue of concern raised by the council. The council argued that the material of the shorts can become itchy and when it rains the shorts can become see-through. Again Ms Foubert thought that this is something that can be looked into for next year’s uniform, perhaps having a different material for the shorts and a darker colour, so that they are less see-through when it rains. (5) Some members of the council raised the issue of mobile phones being allowed at break and lunch. Ms foubert and Mr Kennedy made the point that if students were allowed to use their phones at break and lunch, students would forget to turn them off at the end of break and lunch and they would cause a disruption to lessons if they go off due to a phone call or text message. Therefore it is better that the school policy remains that mobile phones are switched off at the beginning of the school day until the end of the school day. (6) The issue of going to the toilets was raised. The request from the council being that students should be allowed to go to the toilet during lessons. Ms Foubert and Mr Kennedy argued that most students should be able to regulate their going to the toilet for break and lunchtime. The point was also made that if there is a medical reason for a student to go to the toilet during lessons then the students parent/guardian would need to make the school aware of it.

Saturday Thai Culture Club News by Khru Sue, Thai Lead Teacher The Saturday Thai Culture Club for September 2014 was held on Saturday the 27th. The Year 2 - 7 students had lots of fun playing games and learning how to make a Thai dessert called “Tub Tim Krob” which is water chestnut with syrup and coconut milk. The Early Years - Year 1 students learned about a Thai dessert called ‘Look Chub’. A big thank you to the Thai department and parents who were involved in this event.

**Next Thai Parents Weekly Meeting Information **We would like to invite all parents who have their child/children in Primary to our Thai Parents Weekly Meeting in the Library at 8:30am to 9:30am next Tuesday the 7th of October. There will be a presentation about the “Parents Portal for Primary”. We hope to see you there.

James van Herzeele’s Tennis Ranking ** by Khun Noppakun Suppanad, James’ mother

I am delighted to tell you about James Tennis Ranking, which was just updated yesterday on the following site: www.thaitennisranking.net/P_Ranking_ByLevel.asp?LevelID=BS12 . James has won 39 games out of 40 which means that all of his opponents could not even get a game from him for the whole tournament. James missed 1 game because he broke his tennis string during the match. Out of 304 competitors listed on the website James, 11 years old, holds the Number # 1 ranking for Boys 12 years & under in Thailand. James will get the opportunity to join the prestigious PTT Junior Master Cup 2014 Tournament November3-18, at Rama Gardens Hotel Bangkok, as well as The Master of Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand (LTAT), which will be held in December, 2014. These tournaments allow only the top 16 players, who participated in tournaments during the year, from all over Thailand. These outstanding results could not be achieved without all of the HUGE support from all of the teachers, James’ friends in the Y7A class and HeadStart School. We wish James the best in all of his future tennis matches and as well as his future studies. He is working very hard to achieve in both tasks and we would like to thank you for all of your support which allows him to rise to this level.

Under 11 Boys Football** - 20 September 2014

HeadStart Panthers Yellow 1-4 BISP A It was an incredibly tough game against BISP but after the game the Panthers felt that they improved their game and they now know what they need to focus on in training. The Panthers had a strong first half with Reece and Tyler playing very well in defence. In the goal, a special mention has to go to the goalkeeper, Sam Stowe, who made some amazing saves and managed to keep the score at 0-0 for the first half. In the second half the Panthers went out feeling more positive. They attacked the left side of the BISP defense but we were unfortunately caught on the break and conceded the first goal. This meant that the Panthers had to go on the offensive, and they pushed hard for a goal. Unfortunately, this left gaps at the back and the Panthers were punished several times by a very accomplished BISP side. At the end of the game coach JR said “We now know what we need to work on and we can use this to hopefully beat our opponents in the near future.” Team: Sam Stowe, Omsin, Reece, Max Stowe, Tyler, Keen, Roy, Viggo

HeadStart Panthers Blue 0-0 BISP B Despite the score this was a wonderful game, when the woodwork was rattled twice in the last minutes, there was an air of inevitability about the stalemate. Even then, the drama was deceptive. Ryan’s effort acquired an added menace courtesy of a deflection off the BISP defender, redirecting it onto the bar. The hosts’ goalkeeper, then tipped an added-time thunderbolt from the Panthers striker Keanu over the bar. The Panthers coach was nevertheless pleased. “I wasn’t expecting that,” said Coach JR. “Everything we planned didn’t really go as we would like. • ถึงแม้ฝนจะตกลงมาอย่างต่อเนื่อง แต่การก่อสร้างก็มีความคืบหน้าไป - ชั้น 1 และชั้น 2 ของอาคารประถมและมัธยม เกือบจะเสร็จสมบูรณ์ และบางส่วนของชั้นก็เริ่มไปบ้าง - พื้นโรงยิมเสร็จไปกว่า50% และเสาหลังคาของสนามบาสเก็ตบอลก็เริ่มไปบ้างแล้ว คาดว่าจะแล้วเสร็จสิ้นเดือนนี้ - อาคารแผนกอนุบาลนั้น คอนกรีตงานดาดฟ้าจะเริ่มในวันที่ 4 ตุลาคมนี้ - รากฐานของสระว่ายน้ำเสร็จไปได้ประมาณ 60% เช่นเดียวกับการเทพื้นคอนกรีตหยาบ (การเทลีน) ส่วนผนังของถังพักน้ำของสระน้ำ (surge tank) ก็เสร็จไป 60%

สาระน่ารู้จากห้องสมุด

บรรณารักษ์ทุกวันนี้ มีหน้าที่บริหารการเก็บข้อมูลเพื่อให้ง่ายแก่การดึงมาใช้งาน แผนกของเราใช้ระบบที่ง่ายต่อการค้นหา โดยทั่วไปแล้วในห้องสมุดโรงเรียน ข้อมูลส่วนใหญ่จะหาได้จากหนังสือ แม้ว่าบางครั้งก็หาจากโลกออนไลน์ก็ตามที แต่เมื่อพูดถึงเรื่องหนังสือแล้ว สำหรับห้องสมุดของเราที่นี่ หลักการค้นหาก็ง่ายมาก ถ้าเป็นหนังสือเพื่อความสนุกสนาน เช่น ประเภท นิทาน นิยาย ก็จะอยู่ในหมวดหมู่ Primary หรือ Juvenile หรือไม่ก็อยู่ในหมวดของ Adult โดยเรียงตามอักษรตัวแรกของนามสกุลของผู้เขียน เช่นถ้าจะหาหนังสือ Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban ซึ่งเขียนโดย J.K.Rowling ก็จะพบได้ที่หมวด Juvenile ในกลุ่มอักษร R รวมกันอยู่กับหนังสือเล่มอื่นๆที่เขียนโดย J.K.Rowling ถ้าจะหาหนังสือตำราต่างๆ ก็หาได้ในหมวดสารคดี ซึ่งจะจัดหมวดหมู่หนังสือตามระบบทศนิยมของดิวอี้ แบ่งหนังสือออกเป็นหมวดหมู่ต่างๆ จากหมวดหมู่ใหญ่ไปหาหมวดหมู่ย่อย ต่างๆ (DDS) จะใส่หมายเลขให้หนังสือแต่ละวิชา แต่ละเล่ม แล้วก็จะเก็บเรียงตามหมายเลข ดังนั้น ถ้าต้องการหนังสือ Nature Encyclopedia ก็ต้องหาในหมวดเลข 508 และถ้าเป็นหนังสือ History of Our World ก็จะหาได้ที่ในหมวด 909 ซึงก็จะมีรวมอยู่กับหนังสือพวก nature และ history

ระบบเหล่านี้เป็นที่นิยมใช้กันทั่วไปตามห้องสมุดต่างๆ ซึ่งง่ายต่อการใช้งาน แต่ก็จะมีปัญหาคือ ระบบจะสมบูรณ์ได้คือหนังสือต้องวางไว้ถูกที่เท่านั้น ดังนั้นทางบรรณารักษ์จึงฝากมาบอกทุกๆท่านว่า เมื่อหยิบหนังสือออกมาจากชั้นแล้ว กรุณาอย่าใส่กลับไปบนชั้นอีกโดยไม่ใช่ตำแหน่งที่ถูกต้อง แต่ขอให้เอาหนังสือนั้นๆไปใส่กล่องสีขาวที่จะเห็นได้ทั่วไปในห้องสมุด ซึ่งทางเจ้าหน้าที่ห้องสมุดก็จะจัดเก็บเข้าที่ตามระบบ เพื่อให้ง่ายแก่การค้นหาครั้งต่อไป

ทุกๆวันศุกร์แรกของเดือน นักเรียนเลือกที่จะไม่ใส่เครื่องแบบนักเรียนได้ ถ้าเตรียมเงิน 50บาทมาบริจาคเพื่อการกุศล ซึ่งสัปดาห์นี้นักเรียนกลุ่ม Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) ขอให้เพื่อนนักเรียนร่วมกันบริจาคให้แก่สถานสงเคราห์ที่พวกเค้าเหล่านั้นเป็นอาสาสมัครอยู่ น้อง Jil Habermacher ​และทีมงานขอให้เพื่อนๆช่วยให้การสนับสนุนแก่ Sunshine Village และช่วยส่งเสริมงานที่พวกเค้าให้การดูแลเด็กกำพร้าเหล่านี้ ส่วน Darren Edouard ​และทีมงาน ขอเพื่อนๆช่วยบริจาคให้กับการจัดสอนเตะบอลให้เด็กกำพร้าเหล่านั้น ซึ่งต้องจัดซื้อรองเท้า แผ่นกันกระแทกขา และอุปกรณ์อื่นๆ ท่านคิดว่าจะให้การสนับสนุนโครงการไหนคะ ?

นักเรียนชั้น Year 4B เรียนรู้เรื่องสุขภาพ โดย Kate Johnson, Year 4B Teacher* *เด็กๆเรียนเรื่องกระบวนการย่อยอาหาร ในชั้นYear 4B จับเวลาว่าหลังจากกินข้าวโพดเข้าไปแล้ว ใช้เวลานานเท่าไหร่ที่ข้าวโพดจะเดินทางผ่านระบบทางเดินอาหารไปจนจบกระบวนการ !

ขอแนะนำให้รู้จักกับสมาชิกสภานักเรียน ประจำปีการศึกษา 2557-2558

รายงานการประชุมสภานักเรียน เมื่อวันศุกร์ที่ 26 กันยายน 2557

ผู้เข้าร่วมประชุม: Mr Kennedy, Ms Foubert, Clara, Morgan, Pinhatai, Hami, Nini, Luba, Egor, Tiradetch, Thanadol, Andrew, Farhan, Nyke, Emmie, Ben, Anna, Sandi, Songkran.

สาระการประชุม:

(1) ขอพื้นที่เพิ่ม ในเวลาอาหารกลางวันรอบสอง ให้นักเรียน year 11 อาจจะให้นักเรียนyear 11 ไปโรงอาหารเวลา 12.30 ซึ่งเป็นช่วงเวลาที่ year 7 จะย้ายออกไปที่สนามเด็กเล่นพอดี ? อีกเรื่องก็คือ นักเรียน year 7 ส่งเสียงดังเป็นที่รบกวน year 11 ต้องการความเงียบสักหน่อย ในเวลาทานอาหาร

(2) สภานักเรียนเห็นว่า เมนูอาหารกลางวัน ควรจะหลากหลายกว่านี้ เพิ่มอาหารประเภทผัก Ms Foubert แนะนำให้สภานักเรียนทำเรื่องเสนอให้หัวหน้าพ่อครัวทำพิจารณา ว่าน่าจะเพิ่มเมนูอาหารอย่างอื่นๆใดบ้าง

(3) นักเรียนหญิงบางคน บอกว่าเครื่องแบบนักเรียนหญิงนั้นน่าจะเปลี่ยนแบบ เนื่องจากตรงแขนเสื้อมักจะระคายเคืองผิวหนัง Mr Kennedy และ Ms Foubert รับว่าจะนำไปพิจารณาในเรื่องเครื่องแบบนักเรียนของปีหน้าต่อไป

(4) นักเรียนบอกว่าวัสดุที่ใช้ทำกางเกงกีฬานั้น เนื้อผ้าก่อให้เกิดอาการคัน ผ้าก็บาง เวลาเปียกฝนก็มองเห็นข้างใน และก็เช่นเดียวกัน Ms Foubert คิดว่าจะนำไปพิจารณาในเรื่องเครื่องแบบนักเรียนของปีหน้าต่อไป อาจจะเปลี่ยนเนื้อผ้า และเปลี่ยนสีให้เข้มขึ้นดีไหม เพื่อจะได้ไม่โป๊ เวลาเปียกฝน

(5) สมาชิกบางคน เสนอว่าน่าจะอนุญาตให้นักเรียนใช้โทรศัพท์มือถือได้ในช่วงพักและช่วงอาหารกลางวัน Ms Foubert และ Mr Kennedy ติงว่าหากอนุญาตแล้ว นักเรียนก็จะลืมปิดเครื่องก่อนเข้าชั้นเรียนในวิชาต่อไป ซึ่งจะเป็นการรบกวนสมาธิ เมื่อมีสายโทรฯเข้า หรือมีข้อความเข้ามา ดังนั้นก็คงปฏิบัติตามกฎระเบียบของโรงเรียนตามเดิมคือปิดโทรฯมือถือตอนเช้าก่อนเข้าเรียนตลอดวันไปจนโรงเรียนเลิกตอนบ่าย

(6) เรื่องการขออนุญาตไปเข้าห้องน้ำ สภานักเรียนเสนอว่าน่าจะอนุญาตให้นักเรียนลาไปเข้าห้องน้ำในช่วงคาบเรียนได้ Ms Foubert และMr Kennedy แย้งว่านักเรียนส่วนมากควรจะรอไปเข้าห้องน้ำในช่วงพักและช่วงทานอาหารกลางวันได้ แต่หากนักเรียนบางคนมีปัญหาสุขภาพ ก็ให้ผู้ปกครองแจ้งให้ทางโรงเรียนทราบ

ชมรมวัฒนธรรมไทยวันเสาร์ สำหรับเดือนกันยายน ได้จัดขึ้นเมื่อวันเสาร์ที่ 27 นักเรียน Year 2-7 สนุกสนานกับการละเล่นต่างๆ และหัดทำขนมไทยๆ เรียกว่าขนมทับทิมกรอบ ซึ่งทำด้วยแห้วและน้ำเชื่อม กะทิ เด็ก Early Years - Year 1 หัดทำขนมลูกชุบ ขอขอบคุณภาควิชาภาษาไทย และผู้ปกครองผู้เกี่ยวข้องทุกท่าน

รายการแข่งขัน ฟุตบอลสัมพันธ์ เด็กอายุไม่เกิน 11 ปี โดย Tladi Small, Head of P.E.

เมื่อวันเสาร์ที่ผ่านมา ทีม Football Panther รุ่นอายุไม่เกิน 11 ปี ได้ลงเตะกับทีมจาก BISP ทีมของเราได้สู้อย่างเต็มที่ และได้พัฒนาทักษะและทัศนคติ ขึ้นมาก : ผลออกมาดังนี้

James มีผลงานชนะ 39 นัดจาก ทั้งหมด 40 นัด ซึ่งหมายความว่าคู่แข่งของเค้าไม่มีใครสามารถจะชนะเค้าได้ซักนัดเดียวตลอดรายการนี้ James พลาดไปหนึ่งนัด เพระเส้นเอ็นของไม้ขาดในขณะแข่งขัน

จากผู้แข่งขันทั้ง 304 คนบนเว็ปไซด์นั้น มีน้อง James อายุ 11 ปี ที่เป็นมือวางอันดับ1 ของเมืองไทย ในรุ่นอายุ 12 ปีลงมา James จะมีโอกาสได้ลงแข่ง ในรายการอันทรงเกียรติชื่อ PTT Junior Master Cup 2014 Tournament ในระหว่างวันที่ 3-18 พฤศจิกายน ที่โรงแรม Rama Gardens Hotel Bangkok และรายการ The Master of Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand (LTAT) ซึ่งจัดในเดือนธันวาคม 2557 ผู้ที่จะเข้าร่วมแข่งขันในรายการทั้ง 2 นี้ จะต้องติดหนึ่งในอันดับ 16 คนของเมืองไทย ที่ได้ลงแข่งขันในรายการต่างๆตลอดทั้งปี

ขอขอบคุณท่านที่เกี่ยวข้องทุกๆท่าน ที่ให้การสนับสนุน รวมทั้งครูทุกๆท่าน เพื่อนๆร่วมชั้นเรียน Y7A และโรงเรียน HeadStart

รายการฟุตบอลชาย อายุไม่เกิน 11ปี – 20 กันยายน 2557 ผลการแข่งขัน ทีมHeadStart Panthers Yellow 1 - 4 BISPA เป็นนัดที่เขี้ยวมาก แต่หลังจากจบการแข่งขันแล้ว ทีมPanthers รู้ว่าทีมของเราได้พัฒนาทักษะการเล่นขึ้นมา และรู้แล้วว่าจะต้องเน้นในเรื่องใดบ้างในการฝึกซ้อม ทีม Panthers ตั้งรับได้ดีในครึ่งแรก ด้วยฝีเท้าของ Reece และ Tyler ผู้รักษาประตูของทีมเรา Sam Stowe ทำหน้าที่อย่างเต็มที่ในการปิดกั้นไม่ให้ลูกเข้าประตู ประคองรักษาแต้มไว้ได้ที่ 0-0 ในครึ่งแรก

ในครึ่งหลัง ทีม Panthers มีความมั่นใจมากขึ้น เราพยายามโจมตีทางกองหลังฝั่งซ้ายของทีม BISP แต่ก็เสียท่าไป 1 ประตูแรก นั่นหมายความว่าทีม Panthers จะต้องรุกอย่างหนักเพื่อตีเสมอให้ได้ก่อน แต่ก็เป็นเหตุให้กองหลังมีช่องโหว่ จึงเสียประตูเพิ่มอีก ในตอนท้าย โค้ช JR บอกว่า ตอนนี้ทีมเราก็ได้รู้แล้ว ว่าเรามีจุดไหนที่จะต้องแก้ไขปรับปรุงบ้าง และนำบทเรียนนี้ไปเป็นตัวช่วยให้ได้ชัยชนะในคราวหน้า รายชื่อผู้เล่น: Sam Stowe, Omsin, Reece, Max Stowe, Tyler, Keen, Roy, Viggo
