Congratulations poster of kids in the Academic competition

Headstart International School joined the Phuket Academic Inter School Competition on the 7th and 8th of September. There were over 70 schools from Phuket in attendance. HeadStart was the only international school to join this competition. We are proud to announce that HeadStart International School acquired one gold, two silver and two bronze prizes in various categories.

“This is the first year that Headstart has joined the Thai Academic Competition in Phuket. I didn’t expect for any great results as our students study an International Curriculum. I was just hoping that our Thai students would gain more experience and exposure to Thai academic events. Headstart is constantly striving to improve the Thai standards of education in the school. Our goal is to make our Thai students compare evenly with their Thai counterparts in the Thai schools. I feel so happy about the excellent results from our students.” says Parimon Phaisamran, Headstart International School Management.

HeadStart Parent Committee–Mr Jazon Edouard

This year, we have decided to restructure and combine our various Parent Committees into a single entity in order to increase the effectiveness of communication between parents and school management. The Parent Committee will continue to play an important part in the development of the school and our programmes and can be a key communication rewarding way for you as a parent to be directly involved not only in your child’s education but also the ongoing development and improvement of the school.

The Parent Committee is comprised of 15 members. School management has selected and invited individual parents to become members of the Parent Committee as we have seen that they are the type of parents who we think will be able to make a positive contribution to the schools development. Parents have been chosen to represent Foundation, Primary and Secondary as well as to represent some of the many nationalities of the parents and students currently in the school. The Parent Committee will meet with key members of the School Management Team 1 time per Term (3 times per year). Issues which the Parent Committee will typically be involved with include but are not limited to the following:

• collecting and communicating information from parents to school management regarding procedures, policies and management of the school with regards to educational, extra curricular and pastoral programmes

• coordinating parent involvement and support for aspects which cover the school’s community links, social events and promotional events for the school

• assisting with extra curricular activities, social events and programmes for students and parents

On Wednesday 11th September, year 10 parents attended a presentation from HeadStart school which outlined what they could expect during the academic year and beyond.

Topics covered included; What CIE (Cambridge International Exams) means to HeadStart school, parents and students, What subjects students would study during years 10 and 11. The difference between core and extended exams. How IGCSE exams can allow a student to gain an M6 equivalency certificate. Booster courses. Field trip in Term 2 to Khao Yai St. Stevens. The International Award (Duke of Edinburgh)

Year 10 Duke of Edinburgh (International Award) meeting

This week the Year 10 parents and students met with Mr Allenby and Ms Clark (DoE coaches) regarding the implementation of the Duke of Edinburgh award at HeadStart. We started off by playing a game which emphasized the issue of trust as each parent was blind folded by their child and lead around an obstacle course. A fantastic video clip was played which showed positive responses from some of the 8 million students around the world who have partaken in the DoE award. All students were then given a pack of information as well as a chart to fill out with what they personally will choose for their award.

Starting the DoE award at HeadStart is very exciting and we look forward to seeing the 21 signed up students partaking in various challenging and fulfilling activities.

Picture Taking Week

Next week is picture taking week for primary and secondary. Mark will send you the schedule shortly. Maybe ask parents to make sure their child is wearing their uniform if possible.

Year 1A does Assembly!

Year 1A did their first assembly on the 10th of September, 8:15 am. Students showed the other classes in Primary the classroom rules that they have made with their teacher, Ms Cathy Coles. They also performed a song that they learned: Head and shoulders, bum and jump!

Please note that Primary assembly dates are uploaded to the HeadStart website and parents are welcome to join in the Library.

Year 6A Science News–Ms Kate Dietrich

On Monday during Project time my students used science tools learned in science class, as well as their team work skills, to make salt dough. Today in Project we will use the dough to create pottery to resemble Ancient Greek artifacts (as we are learning about Ancient Greece in Humanities).

Year 6A learns about e-safety!–Kevin Reynolds

This week in ICT, pupils in 6B have been learning about e-safety and how to stay safe online. They have been discussing their own experiences of using the internet and in particular, social networking and gaming sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, Xbox Live, PS Network and Minecraft. Pupils have been sharing their advice on what to do to remain safe, distinguishing between the information that should and should not be shared with strangers. They have been working hard producing e-safety presentations and it is hoped that these can be shared with the younger members of the school over the next few weeks.

Innes and Shane (in Year 5) participated and completed the 1.5 km Superkidz race organized by Thanyapura. The boys did very well!** **

HeadStart’s Tennis Champion!

Congratulations to James Van Heerzele from Year 6B who won the Superkidz Tennis Tournament at Thanyapura last Sunday for the under 12 division.

ขอแสดงความยินดีกันนักเรียนที่เข้าร่วมการแข่งขันทักษะวิชาการระดับจังหวัดภูเก็ต

โรงเรียนนานาชาติเฮดสตาร์ทได้ส่งนักเรียนเข้าร่วมการแข่งขันทักษะวิชาการระดับจังหวัดภูเก็ต ประจำปีการศึกษา 2556 ในวันที่ 7-8 กันยายนที่ผ่านมานี้ ซึ่งมีโรงเรียนในเขตพื้นที่การศึกษาจังหวัดเข้าร่วมทำการแข่งขันกว่า 70 โรงเรียน โดยโรงเรียนนานาชาติเฮดสตาร์ทเป็นโรงเรียนนานาชาติเพียงแห่งเดียวของจังหวัดที่เข้าร่วมการแข่งขันในครั้งนี้

ผลการแข่งขันทางโรงเรียนนานาชาติเฮดสตาร์ท สามารถคว้ารางวัลมาได้ทุกประเภทที่ทางโรงเรียนส่งเข้าแข่งขัน 1 เหรียญทอง 2 เหรียญเงิน 2 เหรียญทองแดง

คุณปริมล ไพรสำราญ ผู้บริหารโรงเรียน ได้กล่าวเกี่ยวกับหารแข่งขันในครั้งนี้ว่า “เราได้ส่งนักเรียนเข้าทำการแข่งขันปีนี้เป็นปีแรก ซึ่งในตอนแรกก็ไม่คาดถึงผลการแข่งขัน เพียงแต่ต้องการให้น้องๆทุกๆคนได้รับประสบการณ์ที่ดี และที่สำคัญกว่านั้นทางโรงเรียนต้องการวัดระดับมาตรฐานวิชาภาษาไทยว่าได้คุณภาพ มาตรฐานตามหลักสูตรของกระทรวงศึกษาธิการหรือไม่ ซึ่งผลการแข่งขันก็ออกมาดีมากเกินความคาดหมาย ต่อจากนี้ไปเราจะพัฒนาหลักสูตรวิชาภาษาไทยต่อไปเพื่อให้ได้มาตรฐานไม่แพ้กับโรงเรียนไทยอื่นๆ”

สมาคมผู้ปกครอง - ** **Mr Jazon Edouard

ในปีนี้ทางโรงเรียนได้ปรับเปลี่ยนโครงสร้างให้มีความหลากหลายของสมาคมผู้ปกครอง สมาคมผู้ปกครองจะเป็นส่วนสำคัญในการที่จะพัฒนาโรงเรียนของเราและเป็นบุคคลที่มีบทบาทในการสื่อสารเรื่องต่างๆในมุมของผู้ปกครองเพื่อพัฒนาและปรับปรุงโรงเรียน

สมาคมผู้ปกครองมีสมาชิกทั้งหมด 15 คน คณะผู้บริหารของโรงเรียนได้ทำการเลือกและเรียนเชิญผู้ปกครองมาเป็นสมาชิกโดยเลือกจากผู้ปกครองที่เราคิดว่าจะช่วยพัฒนาโรงเรียนให้ดีขึ้น ผู้ปกครองที่ได้รับเลือกเป็นตัวแทนจากระดับชั้นอนุบาล, ประถมศึกษาและมัธยมศึกษา และยังเลือกจากสัญชาติที่หลากหลาย

สมาคมผู้ปกครองจะมาร่วมประชุมกับคณะผู้บริหารของโรงเรียน 1 ครั้ง ต่อ ภาคเรียนการศึกษา (3 ครั้งต่อปี) เพื่อปรึกษาและรวบรวมข้อมูลต่างๆ ดังนั้

• เพื่อเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลจากผู้ปกครองให้คณะผู้บริหารของโรงเรียนเรื่องระเบียบการ และนโยบาย ส่วนผู้บริหารของโรงเรียนจะดูแลเรื่องระบบการศึกษา หลักสูตรพิเศษและ pastoral programmes

• เพื่อประสานงานกับผู้ปกครองที่เกี่ยวข้องและสนับสนุน และประชาสัมพันธ์กิจกรรมต่างๆของโรงเรียน

• เพื่อเข้าร่วมกิจกรรมหลักสูตรพิเศษ งานอีเทศกาลต่างๆ และโปรแกรมเพื่อนักเรียนและผู้ปกครอง

การประชุมผู้ปกครองของนักเรียนชั้น Year 10

ในวันพุธที่ 11 กันยายน 56 ท่านผู้ปกครองของนักเรียนชั้น Year 10 ได้เข้าร่วมประชุม กับทางโรงเรียนเกี่ยวกับสิ่งที่ควรคาดหวังในปีการศึกษานี้

กิจกรรม Duke of Edinburgh (International Award) ของนักเรียนชั้น Year 10

สัปดาห์ที่ผ่านมานี้ ท่านผู้ปกครองและนักเรียนชั้น Year 10 ได้พบกับ Mr Allenby and Ms Clark (DoE coaches) เพื่อเริ่มดำเนินการในกิจกรรม Duke of Edinburgh เริ่มจากการเล่นเกมส์เกี่ยวกับการไว้ใจ โดยให้ผู้ปกครองแต่ละท่านปิดตา แล้วให้นักเรียนเป็นคนนำทางเดินไปรอบๆ และได้เปิดฉายวีดีโอของนักเรียน 8 ล้านคนทั่วโลกที่เข้าร่วมทำกิจกรรม DoE

นักเรียนที่เข้าร่วมได้รับเอกสารข้อมูลและแผ่นชาร์ทเพื่อกรอกรางวัลที่แต่ละคนเลือก การเริ่มกิจกรรม DoE นั้นน่าตื่นเต้นมากและเราหวังว่านักเรียนทั้ง 21 คนจะเข้าร่วมกิจกรรมที่ท้าทายความสามารถและน่าสนใจนี้

สัปดาห์ของการถ่ายรูป

ในสัปดาห์หน้านักเรียนชั้นประถมและมัธยมจะมีการถ่ายรูป คุณมาร์คจะส่งตารางการถ่ายรูปให้ท่านทราบในเร็วๆนี้ ท่านผู้ปกครองกรุณาให้นักเรียนสวมชุดนักเรียนมาในวันที่ถ่ายรูป

นักเรียนชั้น Year 1A กับการแสดงในที่ประชุมครั้งแรก

นักเรียนชั้น Year 1A ได้มีการแสดงในที่ประชุมครั้งแรกในวันที่ 10 กันยายน เวลา 08.15 น. นักเรียนได้ทำการแสดงให้นักเรียนชั้นประถมห้องอื่นได้ชม นักเรียนชั้น Year 1A และคุณครู Cathy Coles ได้เต้นเพลง Head and shoulders, bum and jump!

เราได้อัพโหลดการแสดงของชั้นประถมศึกษาลงในเวปไซด์ของโรงเรียนด้วย และกิจกรรมนี้ผู้ปกครองสามารถเข้าร่วมได้ที่ห้องสมุด

ข่าววิทยาศาสตร์ –Ms Kate Dietrich

ในวันจันทร์ที่ผ่านมาระหว่างวิชาโครงงาน นักเรียนชั้น Year 6 ได้ใช้เครื่องมือวิทยาศาสตร์เรียนในห้องวิทยาศาสตร์ เพื่อเสริมสร้างทักษะการทำงานร่วมกับผู้อื่น ในการทำ salt dough และหลังจากนั้นนักเรียนจะใช้สิ่งที่นักเรียนทำมาสร้างสรรผลงานสิ่งประดิษฐ์กรีกโบราณ (ในขณะที่นักเรียนกำลังเรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับกรีกโบราณในวิชามนุษยศาสตร์)

Year 6B เรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับความปลอดภัย - Kevin Reynolds

ในสัปดาห์นี้วิชาคอมพิวเตอร์ (ICT) ของนักเรียนชั้น Year 6B ได้เรียนรู้เรื่อง e-safety และการทำอย่างไรให้ปลอดภัยจากการใช้สื่อออนไลน์ นักเรียนได้เล่าประสบการณ์ของแต่ละคนในการใช้อินเตอร์เน็ต การใช้ social network และ การเล่นเกมส์ ตัวอย่างเช่น Facebook, Twitter, Xbox Live, PS Network and Minecraft นักเรียนได้แบ่งปันความคิดเห็น และแยกแยะระหว่างข้อมูลที่ควรและไม่ควรบอกกับคนแปลกหน้า นักเรียนทุกคนตั้งใจเรียนรู้มากและหวังว่า ชิ้นงานนี้สามารถแสดงผลงานให้ต่อน้องๆนักเรียนคนอื่นในโรงเรียนได้ชมในอีก 2-3 สัปดาห์หน้า

Innes และ Shane (นักเรียนชั้น Year 5) ได้เข้าร่วมแข่งขันวิ่งระยะทาง 1.5 กิโลเมตร ในรายการ Superkidz race organized by Thanyapura เด็กๆทำได้ดีมาก

ขอแสดงความยินดีกับ James Van Heerzele นักเรียนชั้น Year 6B ได้คว้าแชมป์การแข่งขันเทนนิสในรายการ The Superkidz Tennis Tournament at Thanyapura รุ่นอายุไม่เกิน 12 ปี ในวันอาทิตย์ที่ผ่านมา
