Shark Guardian Visit

Liz and Brendon, from Shark Guardian, visited HeadStart to help educate the students regarding the natural habitats of sharks. Students learned that sharks do not pose a deathly threat to humans unless provoked. Did you know that bread toasters, hippos and elephants kill around 800 people every year while sharks kill roughly 12?

Hello to you all

Brendon and I would just like to say a big thank you for the great day we had yesterday and the very generous donation from HeadStart.

We really felt the children took lots on board - the classroom sessions could have gone on forever! And we said how lovely and polite the children are. They really are a credit to the obvious fantastic system you have in place, I don’t think we’ve been anywhere else where the children have asked such intelligent questions. It was such a joy for us to interact with them.

**Remembrance Day **

A reminder to parents that 11th November marks Remembrance Day.

We are selling Poppies on behalf of the Royal British Legion to raise money for servicemen and their families who have been touched by war and conflict.

Poppies, wristbands and pins may be bought from the Admin office at school.

HeadStart students involved in Motorcycle Accident

Due to many students and parents having seen or heard about the motorcycle accident that two students from the HeadStart family were involved in today, we would like to give an accurate account of the situation and notify you that they are now doing much better. Nick and Ruthie have been hospitalised for cuts, grazes and broken bones, but are doing much better now. This is a good reminder to all Secondary students that while Nick and Ruthie were wearing helmets the roads in Phuket are extremely dangerous! You should not take this lightly. Please remember that you must have a valid driving license on you and that you are fully insured in case of an accident.

House Football Fun!

Vova Competes and wins!

On 12-13 October there was a swimming competition at Sapan Hin. 347 swimmers from 34 different teams took part in the competition. Vova in Year 9 got 7 gold medals and 1 bronze for his excellent performance. By the total points Vova was the first in his age group.

From Vova:

I swam 200 meters IM, 200 meters butterfly, 100 meters butterfly, 50 meters butterfly, 200 meters freestyle, 100 meters freestyle, 50 meters freestyle, 100 meters backstroke. I got 7 gold medals and 1 bronze for the 100 meters backstroke.

My time those events were:

200 IM- 2 min 50 sec, 200 butterfly-3 min 5 sec, 100 butterfly- 1 min 18 sec, 50 butterfly- 34 sec, 200 freestyle- 2 min 34 sec, 100 freestyle- 1 min 8 sec, 50 freestyle- 31 freestyle, 100 backstroke- 1 min 25 sec.

Language Department News

French Class—Francoise Laosuwan

After learning food in French class, Y5’s project was to build their own bingo game including the grids, the rules, the deck with questions and food picture cards. They are now ready to play and practice!!!

Mandarin Class—Wei Wang

Y1 students can already say some veggies names and have fun in making their paper plates of veggies that grow above and below the ground.

​Sawasdee ka HeadStart!

Last Thai Culture activity was very good judging from Ryan’s response! Ryan told me “I liked every part of it”. As for myself, I’d love very much for the school to continue this program and will have my children participate as often as possible. It is a great program that gives students the opportunity to explore Thai culture and tradition. The teachers involved were also very dedicated and have made the activities so much fun.

Art Department news

Announcement from teacher Jody Leow:

The students in art class students have to wear a long apron that covers them both front and back when they paint. However, sometimes students still manage to get paint on their uniform. Can I suggest that the students bring a very large old t-shirt to school to wear under the apron just in case. The t-shirt can be kept in the art room.

Foundation Students are Rewarded

We are proud to announce the following students as having done exceptionally well in the following categories:

Reception A in class!

The children are using their phonic knowledge to write words and simple sentences.

We have been learning about number sentences and how to add numbers together. Then we learned how to use a number line to solve addition problems.

Year 1A making monsters

Year 1B making monsters from clay as part of our ‘imagination’ topic in project time. First we drew our monsters, then we made them using clay, then we painted them!

Year 2A Reads Poetry

Year 2A have been reading and writing poetry in English and today we shared our poems and made our own poetry cafe. We drank chocolate milk and listened to each other read their poems.

Year 4A Makes a Newspaper

Miss Claire’s year 4 English class has been learning all about newspaper writing. We thought it would be fun to create our very own newspaper so we planned and wrote articles about Headstart; naming our paper Headstart Gazette! We made it an enterprising project by printing and selling our paper for 10 baht to pupils and teachers. The children celebrated the success of the paper with a party, using our earnings as spending money!

**Year 5A English Class—Poetry Slam—Heidi St. Hill **

After a month of learning about different kinds of slam poetry, the students in year 5 performed their very own poems. They ranged from memory poems, to fears of not having homework finished and what they would like to be when they grow up. Fabulous work from budding poets!

Year 5A—Imagine it! Word Building in the Classroom—Heidi St. Hill

Taking our Imagine it! theme for the month of October, the students in 5A have been imagining a medieval kingdom within our classroom. They have created their own roles, made props, arranged the classroom to play out an imaginary day in a medieval classroom. Students have gotten so into it that they have created suits of armor at home from cardboard scraps. Our year 5s have INCREDIBLE imaginations!

นักเรียนทุกคนที่เข้าเรียนวิชาศิลปะจะต้องใส่ชุดกันเปื้อนซึ่งจะช่วยป้องกันไม่ให้สกปรกทั้งด้านหน้าและด้านหลัง อย่างไรก็ตามบางครั้งนักเรียนก็ต้องดูแลชุดนักเรียนตัวเองไม่ให้เลอะสีด้วย ขอแนะนำว่าให้นำเสื้อยืดเก่าตัวใหญ่สำหรับใส่ทับชุดยูนิฟอร์มโรงเรียนทุกครั้งเวลาเข้าชั้นเรียน ซึ่งเสื้อยืดสามารถฝากไว้ได้ที่ห้องศิลปะ

Y2A ได้หัดอ่านและเขียนบทกวีภาษาอังกฤษและได้มาหัดอ่านและแชร์บทกวีของแต่ละคนภายในห้อง ซึ่งนักเรียนก็ได้ดื่มนมช๊อคโกแลต ในระหว่างที่อ่านและฟังบกวีของแต่ละคน

Y4A ทำหนังสือพิมพ์

มิส Claire Y4A ในวิชาภาษาอังกฤษได้เรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับการเขียนบทความสำหรับหนังสือพิมพ์ นักเรียนสนุกกันมากในการทำหนังสือพิมพ์ของพวกเค้าเอง พวกเราก็เลยวางแผนที่จะผลิตหนังสือพิมพ์ของโรงเรียนในชื่อHeadstart Gazette และ เขียนบทความของพวกเค้าเอง ซึ่งได้เตรียมการจัดพิมพ์และขายในราคา 10 บาทให้กับนักเรียนและครูในโรงเรียน เด็กๆได้จัดปาร์ตี้ฉลองความสำเร็จโดยใช้เงินที่ได้จากการขายหนังสือพิมพ์นั่นเอง

Y5A วิชาภาษาอังกฤษ-จากบทกวีสู่การแสดง-มิส Heidi St.Hill

หลังจาก 1 เดือนในการเรียนเกี่ยวกับบทกวีประเภทต่างๆ ถึงเวลาที่เหล่านักเรียนจะต้องนำบทกวีที่แต่งกันเองมาแสดงให้เพื่อนๆดู ซึ่งบทกวีต่างๆได้เขียนขึ้นจากความทรงจำต่างๆ เช่น ความกลัวจากการทำการบ้านไม่เสร็จ โตขึ้นอยากจะเป็นอะไร

Y5A ลองจินตนการดู การสร้างโลกในชั้นเรียน- มิส Heidi St. Hill

ลองจินตนาการดูว่า นักเรียน Y5A ได้สร้างโลกสมัยยุคกลางภายในชั้นเรียน นักเรียนได้สร้างบทบาทสมมติ ของตกแต่งต่างๆ สำหรับการแสดงบทบาทสมมติในโลกยุคกลางภายชั้นเรียน นอกจากนี้ยังได้มีการทำชุดเกราะ อาวุธต่างๆ จากเศษกระดาษเหลือใช้ เกินจินตนาการจริงๆ
