Congratulations to Khun Parimon Phaisamran! **Congratulations to Khun Parimon Phaisamran, HeadStart’s School Licensee, for completing her Doctor’s Degree in Education Administration from The Master Theological Seminary, Philippines. Her graduation ceremony took place on Saturday, the 20th of September, 2014 in Bangkok.**

Khru Sa is Home Safe and Sound **We are happy to announce that Khru Sa has been released from the hospital and is now at home recovering from her operation. **
Are You Good At Puzzles? A Volunteer is needed to sort through our repair pile. A library inevitably has a problem with books that fall apart … if it is being used. And we are being used very well. Additionally, since I have convinced the children that I will not get mad at them if they find a book that is broken, or are even responsible for the damage of a book, we are getting lots of books that are being turned in for repair. Unfortunately, many of these books have been separated from their covers, or have lost some pages, and we have many single pages. This is now a fair sized pile and we need a volunteer, who may enjoy putting these books back together again. Contact the librarian at [email protected] or drop by for a look.
**Auditions for the Christmas Play **All students in KS 2-4 are welcome to audition for the Christmas play on Monday, starting at 3 pm. Please sign up outside the Music room so we know you’re are coming.
The play is called Mr. Scrooge Finds Christmas (an adaptation of A Christmas Carol). Rehearsals are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays after school. If you’d like to be a part of the show, please sign up and come on Monday to read for the part you wish to play. Contact Ms Jackie if you have any questions.

Year 4A and B Learn about Vikings ** by Claire Smyth and Kate Johnson, Year 4 teachers **As part of their humanities unit, The Vikings, Year 4 designed and created model shields. They looked at examples on the internet and chose a pattern that they liked.

Year 6 Beach Clean-up with Nikki Beach *by Kevin Reynolds and Daniel Redley, Year 6 teachers *This was a thoroughly enjoyable trip and all of the children had a great time. We spent some time cleaning the beach and managed to fill around 15 sacks of rubbish! It was hard work, however it was all worth it when we arrived back to the beach club where we were greeted with mini burgers and fries!! In all it was a wonderful morning and we all left with a great sense of achievement.

Raman Kaushal, *Math teacher in Secondary
- I was born in Birmingham in the UK. I grew up near Liverpool; went to university in Northern Ireland; worked in Germany; worked in the film & TV industry behind the camera in London whilst completing a Master’s degree at Goldsmith’s College; worked in Yorkshire in the UK; and now here I am in Phuket! In the last 11 years I have been a Mentor, Second in Department, Subject Leader (of A level Psychology as well as in Mathematics); an Examiner for the Edexcel exam board and I have written and implemented whole school policies around student-centred learning, literacy, and Community Cohesion. I have also completed a Leadership course at the National College for School Leadership. I intend to continue this journey by contributing to Headstart International School’s journey in reaching the highest academic standards and I am especially proud to be doing so as a Head of Faculty. I expect all students to aim high and to strive to achieve their personal best. My approach is that targets are there not to be reached but to be beaten. This, together with a commitment to the well-being and development of students in a positive atmosphere, is why I am particularly looking forward to working at Headstart.
Andrew Bayford,** Math teacher in Secondary Hello, my name is Andy Bayford and I am a Secondary Mathematics teacher here at HeadStart International School. I was born and brought up in a city called Kingston-Upon-Hull in the North of England. It was here that I completed my BSc Mathematics (Hons) degree in 2005. I later moved on to the University of Leeds, where I completed my PGCE Secondary Mathematics in 2011.
I am extremely excited to work another year as part of the teaching team at HeadStart and look forward to continuing the success of the students.
Student Council News by Paul Kennedy, Head of Pastoral Care
The first student council meeting for the academic 2014-2015 year took place on Friday, September 26, during period 2 in the French room. The meeting was attended by homeroom representatives form Years 7-11. The meeting was well attended and raised some interesting points. Some of the points discussed were, lunch time, uniforms, toilet breaks and phones. The student representatives spoke well and did an excellent job in representing their home rooms. The minutes of the meeting will be published next week and will be put on the parent portal for parents to read about the issues discussed. The issues raised will be brought to the attention of the school management. Students can see if their suggestion has been accepted, rejected or ongoing by looking at the Student Council notice board. Suggestions accepted will be in the green pouch; those on going in the amber pouch; those rejected in the red pouch. The next student council meeting will be Friday 31/10/14, period 1 in the French room.

Thai National Anthem by ** *Khru Nee, Head of Thai department *At the beginning of the first period of each Thai class, students always sing and pay their respects to the Thai national anthem. The students sing the anthem together and they learn about the importance of the Thai flag.

**Thai Dance Club **The Thai Department is proud to announce that we have divided the Thai dancing club into 2 sets:
Year 1 – Year 3: classes are from 3.00 pm to 4.00 pm (fully booked) Year 4 – Year 6: classes are from 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm (4 more students can fit in)
Language of Persuasion *by Kru Wi *The Year 9 Thai as a First Language class has been focusing on persuasion that is used as an attempt to change the beliefs, attitudes and actions of individuals.
**Flag Raising **Every morning, the students who study Thai as a First Language take turns raising the Thai flag. This activity is related to the ‘activities of nation, religion and monarchy’ section of the curriculum.
**Thai Parents Weekly Meeting **On the 23rd of September, the Thai management team gave a presentation to all the new Thai parents on the topic of school policy and school curriculum. Thanks to all parents who attended this meeting.

** On Saturday 20th September at Kata Beach Surfhouse, in the 4th Annual FLOW (Flowboarding League of the World) TOUR ASIA 2014, our very own Philip Westling from Year 10 B, representing Phuket in the Junior Under 16 section, received a third place position. Congratulations Philip!

HeadStart Panthers Football News:** HSIS 2 - 8 Youth Football Home (YFH) Our first fixture of the season was against Youth Football Home. Having never played together as a team we were optimistic about our chances before the game. We started off strongly with a few attacks up the pitch and seemed to be controlling the initial periods of play. Then after good interplay from the YFH, number 7 has his first real chance by blasting the ball past the oncoming defensive charge of Thomas Nuetzel.
As the first half progressed the visitor’s strength in-depth showed and they were able to continue adding to the score line. By half time the score was 5-1. As the second half started, our performance as a team improved massively and our amount of attacks were increasing. Benjamin and Sasha were linking up nicely. The boys were not giving up with Kobe and Irakli battling hard in defence and midfield to maintain possession. We just needed luck on our side, as many chances were created, but the ball just didn’t want to go in. With the game drawing to an end YFH managed to score two late goals to the disappointment of Calvin who had worked hard as goalie.
After the game coach JR said “This score certainly doesn’t fully reflect our performance and hopefully in games to come we can prove that.”

ในส่วนหนึ่งของสาขาวิชามนุษย์ศาสตร์ เรื่องโจรสลัดไวกิ้ง นักเรียน ป.4 ช่วยกันออกแบบและสร้างโล่ โดยดูตัวอย่างจากอินเตอร์เน็ต และเลือกที่ชอบมาสร้าง

กิจกรรมนอกสถานที่ครั้งนี้ เด็กๆสนุกมาก กับการช่วยกันเก็บขยะบนหาดทราย ได้ตั้ง 15 ถุง ! เป็นงานที่เหนื่อยแต่คุ้มค่า เมื่อกลับมาถึงที่สโมสร Niki Beach Club ทางเจ้าของสถานที่ก็ได้จัดเลี้ยงพวกเราด้วยเบอร์เกอร์แบบจิ๋วและเฟร้นฟรายที่แสนอร่อย ช่างเป็นเช้าวันที่อัศจรรย์ใจอย่างยิ่ง เรากลับมาด้วยความภาคภูมิใจที่ได้ทำประโยชน์

แนะนำครูคนใหม่
ครูสอนคณิตศาตร์ Raman Kaushal ผมเกิดที่เมืองเบอร์มิ่งแฮม ประเทศอังกฤษ เติบโตแถวๆเมืองริเวอร์พูล จบจากมหาวิทยาลัยที่ในไอร์แลนด์
ในขณะที่ผมกำลังศึกษาปริญญาโท ที่วิทยาลัย Goldsmith’s College ผมก็ได้ทำงานที่ประเทศเยอรมัน และทำงานเบื้องหลังกล้องในธุรกิจภาพยนตร์ ที่ประเทศอังกฤษ และเคยทำงานที่เมือง Yorkshire ในประเทศอังกฤษ แล้ววันนี้ผมก็ได้มาทำงานที่ภูเก็ต !
ในช่วง 11 ปีที่ผ่านมา ผมเคยเป็นตัวอย่างที่ดี เป็นหมายเลขสองของแผนก คือหัวหน้าครูสอนรายวิชาจิตวิทยาและคณิตศาสตร์ของหลักสูตร A level ในฐานะครูผู้ตรวจสอบของคณะกรรมการวัดผล the Edexcel exam board และผมก็ได้เขียนนโยบายสำหรับทั้งโรงเรียน และดำเนินการตามนโยบายนั้น ที่ใช้ระบบนักเรียนเป็นศูนย์กลาง การอ่านเขียน และชุมชนสามัคคี ผมได้จบหลักสูตรผู้นำจากวิทยาลัยแห่งชาติ The National College for School Leadership ผมยังคงจะดำเนินชีวิตตามทางสายนี้ต่อไป โดยจะช่วยกันเสริมสร้างให้ โรงเรียน Headstart ได้มาตรฐานสูงสุดในหลักสูตรการสอน ที่ผมก็มีความภาคภูมิใจที่ได้ทำงานนี้ในฐานะหัวหน้าภาควิชา ผมคาดหวังให้นักเรียนทุกๆคน ตั้งเป้าหมายให้สูงเพื่อก้าวไปสู่ความสำเร็จในทางที่ตนถนัด โดยเริ่มที่ว่า เป้าหมายของชีวิตนั้น มิใช่แค่ไปถึง หากแต่ต้องเอาชนะมันให้ได้ ซึ่งสิ่งนี้มาผนวกกับความยึดมั่นในการดูแลความเป็นอยู่ที่ดีของนักเรียนและพัฒนาการของเค้าในสิ่งแวดล้อมที่เป็นบวก นี่เองเป็นสิ่งที่ทำให้ผมพร้อมแล้วที่จะทำงานที่นี่

การประชุมครั้งแรกของสภานักเรียน ในปีการศึกษานี้ จัดขึ้นที่ห้องเรียนภาษาฝรั่งเศส เมื่อวันศุกร์ที่ 26 ในช่วงคาบเรียนที่ 2 ผู้เข้าร่วมประชุมได้แก่ตัวแทนนักเรียนจาก Years 7-11 การประชุมดำเนินไปด้วยดี มีการนำเสนอสาระสำคัญต่างๆ ได้แก่ ช่วงเวลาพักทานอาหารกลางวัน เครื่องแบบนักเรียน ช่วงพักย่อย นักเรียนพูดจานำเสนอเรื่องได้ดีในฐานะที่เป็นตัวแทนของห้องของตนได้เยี่ยม รายการการประชุมจะเสร็จในสัปดาห์ ท่านผู้ปกครองที่สนใจเรื่องที่นักเรียนนำเนอในที่ประชุม สามารถติดตามอ่านได้ที่ Parent portal ส่วนเรื่องต่างๆ ที่นำเข้าที่ประชุมก็จะถูกส่งไปที่ฝ่ายบริหารของโรงเรียน เพื่อพิจารณาต่อไป
นักเรียนสามารถติดตามเรื่องต่างๆเหล่านี้ได้ที่ Student Council notice board ว่าทางฝ่ายบริหารของโรงเรียนตอบรับ หรือปฏิเสธ หรือว่ายังอยู่ในขั้นตอนรอการตัดสินใจ เรื่องที่ได้รับการตอบรับจะอยู่ในถุงสีเขียว ส่วนเรื่องที่อยู่ระหว่างรอ..จะอยู่ในถุงสีเหลือง และเรื่องที่โดนปฏิเสธจะอยู่ในถุงสีแดง
การประชุมครั้งต่อไป จะจัดขึ้นในวันศุกร์ที่ 31 ตุลาคม 2557 ที่ห้องเรียนภาษาฝรั่งเศส

เพลงชาติไทย โดย ** **Khru Nee, Head of Thai department ต้นคาบเรียนภาษาไทย ทุกๆครั้ง นักเรียนจะได้ยืนตรงและร้องเพลงชาติไทยร่วมกัน และเรียนรู้ถึงความสำคัญของธงชาติ
การแสดงท่าทาง ที่แสดงออกถึงอามรมณ์ ! นักเรียน Year 4 ได้แสดงท่าทาง ที่สะท้อนถึงอารมณ์ต่างๆ* *
ชมรมนาฏศิลป์ไทย ** **ภาควิชาภาษาไทย ขอแจ้งให้ทราบว่าจะแบ่งนักเรียนออกเป็น 2 กลุ่ม คือ:
Year 1 – Year 3: เวลา 15.00 ถึง 16.00 (เต็มแล้ว) Year 4 – Year 6: เวลา 16.00 ถึง 17.00 pm (ยังรับได้อีก 4 คน)
การเลือกคำที่ใช้ในการชักชวน โดย ครูวิ** **นักเรียนวิชาภาษาไทยแบบภาษาแม่ ของ Year 9 ได้เรียนเรื่องการชักชวน หรือชักนำให้เปลี่ยนความเชื่อ ทัศนคติ และพฤติกรรมของบุคคลต่างๆ
**การเชิญธงและแสดงความเคารพธงชาติ **ทุกๆเช้า นักเรียนที่เรียนภาษาไทยแบบภาษาแม่ จะผลัดกันรับหน้าที่เชิญธงชาติไทยขึ้นยอดเสา ซึ่งกิจกรรมนี้เกี่ยวข้องกับ ส่วนหนึ่งหลักสูตรที่เป็นกิจกรรมของ ชาติ ศาสนา และสถาบันพระมหากษัตริย์
การประชุมผู้ปกครองไทย ประจำสัปดาห์ ** **การประชุมเมื่อวันที่ 23 กันยายน ทางกลุ่มผู้บริหารภาควิชาภาษาไทย ได้นำเสนอเรื่องนโยบาย และ หลักสูตรของโรงเรียน ให้แก่ผู้ปกครองไทย ที่บุตรหลานเพิ่งเข้าเรียนในปีการศึกษานี้

ข่าวทีมฟุตบอล ** HeadStart Panthers: ** **HSIS 2 – 8 Youth Football Home (YFH) **รายการเริ่มต้นปีการศึกษานี้ แข่งขันกับ Youth Football Home เรายังไม่เคยเล่นร่วมกันเป็นทีมแต่ก็มีความหวังว่ามีโอกาสชนะ เราเริ่มเกมส์อย่างแข็งแกร่ง บุกหน้าหลายครั้ง คุมเกมส์ได้ดีในช่วงต้นๆ หมายเลข 7 ของคู่ต่อสู้ได้โอกาสแรก ยิงผ่านฝ่ายรับของเราคือ Thomas Nuetzel.
ช่วงในครึ่งแรก เวลาผ่านไปทีมคู่ต่อสู้ก็แกร่งขึ้นเรื่อยๆ หมดเวลาครึ่งแรกด้วยแต้ม 5-1 พอเริ่มครึ่งหลัง ทีมของเราก็แสดงความแกร่งขึ้น เริ่มบุกมากขึ้น น้อง Benjamin และ Sasha เล่นเข้าขากันได้ดี เด็กๆสู้อย่างไม่ท้อถอย น้อง Kobe และ Irakli ป้องกันอย่างเหนียวแน่น เราต้องการจังหวะงามๆบ้าง ได้โอกาสยิงหลายลูก แต่ไม่เข้า พอใกล้หมดเวลา ทีมคู่ต่อสู้ยิงได้อีก 2 ประตู แม้ว่า น้อง Calvin ผู้รักษาประตูจะพยายามป้องกันอย่างเต็มที่แล้วก็ตาม
หลังจากจบการแข่งขัน โค้ช JR ประกาศว่า “แต้มในวันนี้ ไม่ได้แสดงว่าทีมของเราไม่เก่ง หวังว่าในนัดหน้า ทีมเราจะได้มีโอกาสพิสูจน์ให้ทุกคนเห็น”
